Don’t understand the Fornah thing. He always looks useful and front foot when he’s on the pitch. Got good feet too. Not enough of our team have the best close control. Fornah has a good touch.

Exactly. Wildsmith has been off it in his last 2 games but has been consistently good since early last season. All goalies make errors or give away a penalty at some point.

Worth reminding some folk that we currently have the joint-second tightest defence in the league - how anyone can think we particularly need to improve on Joe is beyond me!

If we're to challenge for the automatic places, with three teams above us, we have to be relentless and average a fair bit over 2 points a game (if we're going to lose to rivals like Peterborough). Really we need to be aiming for and expecting 15 points from these 5 games, which puts us back in the mix. But football is not straightforward and things can go wrong, so we might not manage that tally. However, as @Ghost of Cloughsays, and because of the big gulf in quality he mentions, anything less than 13 points will be a disappointment. It will also likely see us fall a little away from the race for automatics. You cannot ease off in this division or you'll find your rivals are away over the horizon.

This is a pivotal point in our season. How we react to this defeat will be definitive I feel.
We can still break into the autos if we can put another run together.
Not sure what some people are on with their knee jerk get rid of this or that player.

Win our game in hand and we’re 4 points off top 2 at most. Today is gutting but there’s a long way to go, and we have favourable games coming up to put this right. It’s all about how we bounce back now.

I assume if we take up his one yr option by Jan 30th, that shouldn't be a problem. It does seem inevitable to me however, that we have a chairman who spaffed 50 million on a League 1 club, may still be covering some overheads and will probably like a few million back.  If we're offered 3 million now, I expect he'll take it and we may try and get Edmundson on loan from Ipswich again assuming Portsmouth aren't buying him as is the rumour.

The January window makes or breaks our season I think. Get it right and we are in a great position. Get it wrong and were going to be trying to cling on to a playoff spot like last season.

Over the past 5 weeks, he has 2 goals and 2 assists from the 5 games he started.
See my post from last night.
He started 4 games in a row (2 goals and an assist), yet HE'S the problem (!!!) so needs to be brought off at half time shortly after assisting our equaliser - we failed to score in the 2nd half. Dropped to the bench in the following game and not even used. 2 more assists in the following 75 minutes on the pitch (spread over 3 games), but he'll no doubt be back on the bench against Bristol.
Sibley has to play well every game, or he is subbed off and dropped the first time he 'plays badly'. Thompson can play well every game but still won't start unless we have an injury crisis. Hourihane and Smith can be poor in several consecutive games but still start next week.

For all of the criticisms of Warne and there are lots, the way he has chosen to manage the emergence of Weston is the biggest concern to me.
When Derby went 3 up against Barnsley it meant we could reward 1 or 2 of the youngsters who performed so well against Wolves, Weston being the main one.  A goal and an assist, I am sure he would have been chomping at the bit to add to this.
The fact he brought Bradley et al on, the same players who fail week in week out, flogging the same dead horse time and time again, shows just how much he values the kids and how much faith he has in them.
It is inexplicable that he didnt chuck Weston on for at least 10 minutes against Barnsley and tell him to go enjoy himself.
If nothing else, he could grow to become a sellable asset that we could use to recoup the money we have lost from being out of both cups in the first round.

I think it's fairly clear at this point that he just isn't the right person to lead us to where we need to be. Ipswich spent a bit longer in League One, but they built up with a good young manager and a good style of football and have adapted well to the league above. I have no data to back this up, but generally the pragmatic sides that get up don't seem to adapt as well.

I semi expected a half-arsed performance tonight based on the fact that we've really struggled against the poorer sides this season. What I didn't expect is to see absolutely no youth whatsoever in the starting line-up.
On Saturday the game was over after around 65 minutes. Barnsley had given up, we were in complete control and carving them open at every opportunity. Perfect opportunity to give Weston or Robinson some minutes who would be on a high after the midweek game. We see neither. Okay, perhaps he's saving them for the FA cup game midweek I naively think to myself. We see neither again and instead only see Fapetu for 7 minutes in a desperate, panicked double substitution with Bradley as a last roll of the dice.
No Brown who is on fire in the academy, no Weston who scored for the senior team last week, no Robinson who has Prem clubs sniffing after him, instead we go for a 6'5 CB who we can rifle in diagonal crosses too. It's such a negative, backwards decision that genuinely makes me fear for the academy under Warne. Why would you choose to come here as a youngster when the manager won't even give a couple a chance in a game against league two opposition?
Losing tonight with half a team of kids would have meant nothing tonight. We would have dusted ourselves off and said oh well our focus is on the league. Instead our first team gets comprehensively beaten, the knives are out for Warne again, the fans are annoyed and our youngsters miss out on vital experience. A masterclass in mismanagement.

Here’s the problem, we have a good number of players out of contract in the summer, but who trusts Warne with a major squad rebuild at this point? I don’t.

The definition of insanity is trying the same thing over and over, and expecting a different result.
I'm not sure what the definition for doing the 'over and over bit, getting the same result, changing it and getting a far better result and then reverting back to the original method with the original result is.

The damage was done agreed, but part of the frustration is that we could have provided a youngster with a bit of experience, but we threw on an aging centre half. Just seems a bit backward.

    Pathetic.
If we had gone out trying out some things, learning about the youngsters, rotating in… fine. Not a single issue.
But no, we play the same old boring s**** and put in a limp dick display for the second game against the same league 2 team - who actually made changes, what a novelty.

He'd built a tiny bit of credit from Barnsley, and he's pissed it all up the wall. 3 hours of the same pattern of football, no clue how to get through them and no idea how to change it.

Weston had scored the previous game, his confidence was high. We had the opportunity to build on that but we didn't. The game tonight was in need of someone to step up and show what they could do. I fear all we have done there is waste the feel good factor for Weston. Poor management.

Notts County - 90 mins played (mostly on the wings), 2 goals
Shrewsbury - 90 mins played (RW)
    Exeter - 71 mins (AM)
    Stevenage - 45 mins (AM), 1 assist
    Northampton - not used
    Crewe - 11 mins (AM), 1 assist
    Barnsley - 5 mins (CF)
    Crewe - 59 mins (RW), 1 assist

That's 2 goals and 3 assists in just 371 minutes over the past 5 weeks.
