Collins is not a battering ram, he's more of a battered sausage. Plain, Rigid and only ever bought as a side dish, not the main course.

True, his interview was anything but humble.
However I am thinking from the standpoint of having experienced players who have probably signed contracts and joined us in this division with a certain level of entitlement, an element of being untouchable irrespective of performance.
Take Hourihane and Bradley, for example. Two players who came in with big fanfare. Right now, it is hard not to look at them as anything but two of the biggest weak links in the team. Yet one is captain and the other came in as a marquee signing and a supposed leading figure both on and off the pitch.
How do we improve the team if the core of the team is dysfunctional? What do we do when the central figures in the team are standing in the way of progression?

Don't worry.  There's things that might be affecting things that might affect things that will effectively be effected and the affect will be brill but it can't be talked about as heads are turning. Were all in it together and I'm just as culpable but I wouldn't have headed that and he want's to move.  Get me coffee machine working and work on it in training running round cones and it will be sweet. Get them all doing karaoke to Erasure pre match and Get the pressure on and bust a gut like Wash. Is everybody gassed out at 60 mins.  The fans were as they all went so that's great. Where's Swifty.? Has anyone seen my book of John Beck tactics? Is it time for me to read the travel Dom? I need more pace and mugs or mugs with pace and no bling.  Get me the A-Z of 30 yr old strikers from Rotherham someone. Hello.  Anyone? Who turned out the lights and switched the mic off?

Some of the comments on here are more entertaining than the game.
Which is a reflection on how poor the game is rather than the witticisms of the comments themselves.

Just got home. Thought Wigan was depressing. That was so not worth the effort involved but positives:
    - South Stand much more perky tonight do you think as no drum or nothing to do with it?
    - good size crowd again for midweek in holiday season
    - it was nice and warm
    - no traffic on the way there so time for fish & chips for tea
    - Thommo great sub and Waggy nice goal - both should start Sat.
cant bear to even mention the rest of it. Unbelievably worrying

Totally agree with your sentiments. I imagine that the people at Derby whom are responsible for negotiating playing contracts will have been constantly feeding back to Warne throughout the summer that player x whom Warne has identified is willing to come to the club but their agent has said that they will want y thousand a week.....so you need to be aware Paul that if you do sign them up you'll only have so much left to play with. So upto Paul if you want to progress it on this basis.
Which is probably why Warne has twice now stated in interviews that he sees little value in getting a player in for the money he's been allowed for the sake of numbers if they're not any better than his existing squad.
The lack of transfer activity over the past few weeks is testament to this.
And you're quite correct that it's not Warnes transfer budget it's an allowance he's been granted.
I've read a load of moans about this guy who came over from Oxford and why he hasn't as yet unearthed the next Lionel Messi for free and next to no wages whilst the zillion other scouts from rest of the football teams trawl the identical talent pool.

I reckon the latter would add a decent return on the number of posts you make over a season!

I think, taking this in the manner it was intended, Will Hughes would be the one for that “romantic homecoming”. We scrape through promotion this season and the rebuild is on once more for 2024/25 in the championship, Hourihane says he’s off to coach Villa’s kids full time, Smith decides he’s retiring to open a Farm Shop in the Yorkshire Dales, we need an experienced player to play alongside Max Bird and his shiny new contract, and Will Hughes says “I’m your man, I’ve done my premier league tour, I’m coming home!”
Swiftly followed by Festy, Kaide Gordon, Kellyman, Liam Delap and….Chris Martin in a player coach role.

I know what you are saying but football has taken another turn against sentiment, when players like Henderson at Liverpool are stepping down from premiership football for a tax free holiday in Arabia for £700,000 per week it’s hard to see someone we like or want signing up for £4,000-£10,000 pre week taxed at 45% for the effort of 50 games a season where people kick you. For me I would have liked to see the youngsters we had all come together to see how they would have been as an adult team together but sadly that ship has passed.

This is not about Didzy replacements but who of players who have left us or are Derby fans perhaps would you like to see drop down a little and help us get back up there? Indeed are there any?
My main one would be Will Hughes

Thing I dont understand from here and rumour mill thread is why is Warne seemingly getting all if the negative comments about blowing "his" budget on what we will already have? Unless dcfc is run differently to every other business and he has miraculously gained his accountancy exams (in which case congrats Paul) he will not be monitoring the budget or how much he has spent already or negotiating/signing off the player purchases or sales. I am not moaning at DC for the budget being low or lower than expected either - as no accident that PW was appointed who is used to operating on a low budget. But there are other people at the club in charge of such things and so not fair to place any blame for that on PW (if there is blame to be attached that is)

This just goes to show that teams at all levels are finding it difficult to bring strikers in, like Warne alluded to a week or so ago.
Neither Osula or Dobbin are ready to start in top half League 1 teams let alone playing in the Prem

I think you are! Dont see why he would be ashamed at all anyway.  Paul is a down to earth football manager. He cant have not seen or been told about the negative vibes online generally and we dont know what has happened within the club, if anything.  Football is brutal and would be odd if he wasnt a bit quieter yesterday. Hopefully tigger gets his bounce back very soon

I haven't commented on the match yet, it's so easy to sit back after a good win and think "job done" but that wasn't how I was feeling for a large part of the game.
After a bright start, the early goal should have suited us as it brought Burton out of their shell and into attack mode. I thought we didn't deal with it too well. We dropped in quite deep and some of our play at the back was very nervy in that first half.
Second half we started to see the gaps appear that gave us some space to play into, but even then there was a lot of hoofing the ball forwards from our defence without any real intent of finding a forward. Watching Hourihane and Bird trying to win headers in midfield is not my idea of fun!
Thankfully, those two players had the nouse to keep trying to play their football and Burton were tiring rapidly. It didn't help that when we did break free, most of our chances fell to Nathaniel Mendez-Laing, who appeared to have left his finishing boots at home (decent saves from the goalkeeper too).
The relief when the second goal went in was palpable both on and off the pitch! The fans relaxed, the players relaxed and we started to play some very attractive football., which rewarded us with that third goal.
I hope the players and fans take some confidence from yesterday's game. It wasn't as good as the score suggests, just as the Wigan game wasn't as bad as the play. (The less said about the Blackpool game the better!)
Confidence is such a fragile thing. Players new to the Club who must desperately want to impress trying a bit too hard; current players who have been playing a different style for much of their footballing lives; fans who want us to win, yes, but who also like to see decent football.
I'm now looking forward to the Oxford game to see whether yesterday was a turning point, or whether we will have to be patient a while longer for it all to gel together.
Same starting team for me, please. Put as much effort in as Collins did yesterday and we'll be right!
