Suppose it depends what you mean by fan? I.e. active supporter or someone who identifies as a Derby fan & follows results and not much more.
Derbyshire has a population of over 1m & the club has pockets of support in Staffordshire (most notably Burton), Notts & North Leicestershire. Add in exiled Rams & 300k probably not a bad guess but dont believe a large proportion of those would be active (or certainly not active enough to get involved in a takeover)
Re South West, remember a few years ago being told by a Leeds fan that he used to work in PP ticket office & was struck by how many fans we had in that part of the country (compared to other areas outside Derbyshire). Couldn't think of a logical reason why.

Over here in Ireland I have met at least 100/120 different rams fans on flights over to games

But I have it on good authority that they've always been one of the worlds biggest clubs who hadn't won there domestic league once in a 100 years till 2005.  That cowshed they played at in division 2 during the 80's half empty and full of decaying concrete was clearly a hallucination brought on by an accidental LSD spill into the water supply and Frank could never consider staying and slumming it at Derby County when they came knocking.

David Mellor, big Fulham fan, then switched to Chelski once the ££££ arrived.
Chelsea averaged 11k fans at midweek games pre the Russian takeover.
    I rest my case M’Lord.

    Mel,
Would you agree that this football club has arguably the most loyal and patient fan base in the Country ? If so, how has this massive disconnect between Derby County and it’s fans been allowed to happen ?

I was born 3 miles from Old Trafford, so could have had many years of glory. My Dad is a Liverpool fanatic and steered me away from Man ure.
When we moved to Burton, he took me to the BBG and that was it, I really miss the old stadium.
Wouldn’t swap the Rams for anything, despite the mental torture of the last few seasons.
Have watched Exeter City on occasions

Born and brought up in Leicestershire. My dad lived in Shardlow til he was 7, then moved to Leics. and was only member of family to support Derby still. Took me to BBG when I was 10 in 1951. Am now 80 and still an avid supporter though after serious illness doubt if I’ll ever get to PP again. Have been to matches with my sons, my grandchildren and a great granddaughter! Think I’ve done my bit in providing future supporters for the Rams!

The bottom line ( no pun intended) is that Wayne is a role model and ambassador for Derby County Football Club. His behaviour needs to exemplary and he is not an immature 17 year old.
Then again, the football industry has its own code of conduct, which allows players to deliberately end another professionals career or spit in the face of a teenage girl and still keep their job. You have players criticising government ministers, but happy to be coached by a known racist. The on field diving and cheating is something else, with often a complete lack of sportsmanship, even amongst the top managers.

Moved with my job to a few miles outside Leicester in 1978. Spent one season going to watch the likes of Leicester, Notts C, Forest, Coventry and Derby, depending on who the opposition was that week. The following season it was only Derby and has been for the last 42 years. Given Leicesters' success in recent years do i have any regrets about not following them - not a cat in hells' chance.

Born in Manchester, all family are Reds but moved to Cornwall in 1970 where there is no League team. Saw 'Arsenal 0 Derby 2' in my maths book about 9 yrs old and been hooked ever since. Moved to Worksop in 78 and first game was Nov 79 4-1 v Forest! Son and Daughter now Rams as well.

I’m from Bristol and have no association with Derbyshire other than the football team, which I started supporting at primary school.
Like many I was seduced by a team playing well in the top tier and like the kit and ram logo. I soon started to idolise not the forwards but McFarland and Todd, and spent my own football career as a defender.
Something about this football team has me hooked, and I’ve stuck by them ever since.
