BaaLocks got a reaction from i-Ram in New joke thread (trigger alert, may offend if you want it to)
A lawyer representing a wealthy art dealer called him and said “Mate, I have good and bad news for you”
The art dealer replied, “I’ve had a terrible day, give me the good news first.”
“Well”, he said, “ I met with your wife yesterday and she told me she had bought two pictures for £5000 and she thinks they might be worth £5- 10 million !”
“Fantastic woman, my wife, and a very smart businesswoman too!” said the art dealer. “What’s the bad news?”
The lawyer replied, “the pictures are of you banging your secretary”

Not forgetting Brian Travers who also sadly left us this year. Two weeks after his passing, before the last act of the weekend at Moseley Folk Festival, Richard Hawley, the dj played 'Food for Thought'. The crowd as one burst into song. Really moving stuff. ❤️

Not just in Birmingham, I was in Ghana a few years back and number one artist on the sound systems was Bob Marley, number two UB40

Still highly regarded in Birmingham, by music fans regardless of whether they are into the band or not. Their contribution to modern multi cultural music has been huge.

Must have been a fast shutter speed, Randall is still.
Loved watching Hendrick, in that team with Kirsten, Miller, Tunnicliffe, Wright and others.
And what a lovely touch to have all those come to say their farewells rather than come three weeks later and mutter a few words at a wooden box - like their style.

UB40 are not everyone's cup of tea. Don Letts calls them the Status Quo of reggae and much of their cover version songs are called in by numbers.
But their first few albums, Signing Off, Present Arms are true pillars of their time. They sang political like few bands ever, ever achieve and rarely get the credit they deserve as agents of change in race relations and social equality.
Such a shame they ended up falling apart, it was a gruesome unwinding but that shouldn't spoil appreciation for their early years.

People come here because you can trust the basis of society here - I have worked, and lived, in countries where you can't and it is the most emasculating thing to do to your citizens, put them in a place where they cannot trust the police, the taxman, your manager, the food you buy. We don't have an endemically corrupt society in the UK, even if Trots like me might get up in arms at the actions of many in power, and we should everything we can to keep it that way.
As for shortages, it is the result of incompetence at every level but also, much though I would like to, this isn't one you can just drop at the door of Brexit (though you can't deny it has been an exacerbating factor). They have exactly the same issue in the US as we speak - people are panic buying turkeys coz they're worried they won't have one for Thanksgiving and lorry drivers are in short demand. It's Covid, it's 'the Great Resignation', it's the mega disruption we have seen to our wonderful consumerist model over the last couple of years.

The amortisation thing, as you say, was naive beyond ridiculous. That people within the club thought they could redefine the way we value our most important assets (the players) in a way that gave us considerable advantage over every other club in the division and to not expect that to subsequently be challenged was just schoolboy in it's thinking. You just can't change rules like that because you don't agree with them, life doesn't work that way and big institutions like the EFL (with all it's members) most certainly don't. And, like everything else that was tried in the past few years, all it was doing was kicking the can down the road - the club screwed up by allowing a number of high value, low return signings to be made in a short amount of time and then failed to get the club promoted to a place where that no longer mattered.
Net net: Mel gambled big, played fast and loose with things that he did not truly own, and his poor business knowledge (garnered largely on a lucky punt on an app) came and found him out. Covid merely accelerated the path, and the points deduction is no more than we could expect for our actions - even if it hurts us all in it's implementation it is hard to deny that.

Finding Jack Charlton was a surprisingly warm watch - I lived in Newcastle when he was manager (he took over from Sarge) and it's fair to say he wasn't exactly my cup of tea. But it was interesting to understand the way he infuenced Irish culture and even the peace process. Also, never knew the bit about the relationship with Bobby.

They also were instigators of the email campaign to Sleightholme that led to him steppng down and, ultimately, provided the first point of fracture. I know that coz I was part of it.
As I've said before, I find it amazing how deep the grudge is some people hold towards RT - you would honestly think they had led a campaign to merge us with Forest the way some people bristle as soon as their name is mentioned.
