    No.
Why is our expectation too high?
"Full minutes - SCG Meeting with David Clowes and Stephen Pearce 22.09.22
...Paul Warne brings experience and now is his time for a big job at a big club. Other clubs were after him, both those with and those without a manager currently. David Clowes liked how he treats players, and journalists, encouraging everyone to get the best out of themselves."
We have a budget good enough for promotion from this league and a squad with lots of Warnes chosen players in it. Although (again from those minutes) "With regards to the players we signed and his style, Paul is adaptable, but he was after some of our players in the summer. His teams are running teams and he is happy with the players he has."
So Warne was signed for his experience in League 1 promotion, we are a 'big club' and he has a squad he was/is happy with, that he has added to. He also has a good budget from the Clubs owner.
Why shouldn't our expectation be high?

Exactly.  There's no sign of any improvement.  Aside from the obvious mistakes I thought we showed an element of composure and control against Wigan but other games have been totally chaotic.  I've no idea what the game plan was against Bolton, it was just a total mess.  I'm not sure the players are any the wiser either.

For me it’s more the way we are playing - the way we keep making the same mistakes as last season etc

RedSox reacted to CornwallRam in At least we still have a club.......yeah but...
David Clowes saved our club, but we're still not free of the restrictions caused by administration. We are currently an artificially reduced club. Our turnover, fanbase and history should feed into increased revenue with sponsorship deals and TV appearances. If we'd just been relegated, we would be able, given the right management, to dominate this league.
The problem is that we had 5 players, very few academy players capable of stepping up and serious restrictions on our finances and recruitment.
Thanks to hard work and commitment from David Clowes, Liam Rosenior and Paul Warne, we are now at a point where we are a 'normal' club again. We have a full squad and the academy has been strengthen. But don't be fooled. We're still not a big Championship club about to boss our way out of League 1.
The calls for passing football are, IMO, naive. You only get promoted by playing passing football if you have a squad full of high quality players that are simply too good for the rest of the division. The restrictions which we've been under have meant that the rebuild has had to be cheap. Quality players aren't cheap. The only way this squad is getting promoted is with spirit, fitness, organisation and pragmatic football. It doesn't matter if we replace Warne tomorrow - trying to pass our way out of this division with this squad would be a disaster.
I'd also argue that Warne hasn't had any quality academy players to include, so criticising him for not playing them is difficult to justify.
At this point we need a pragmatic manager. If we replace Warne it will be with someone similar. The restrictions have forced us to build the squad this way and it is logical to give this type of squad this season and next to try for promotion. If that fails, then it will be time to review and maybe bring in a manager who will rebuild with expensive passing players and academy products. By that time the restrictions will be long gone and the size of our club should enable us to be more dominant in the transfer market.

I actually feel sorry for Warne tonight. I didn’t see the game, but just watched a few highlights.
He is imo out of his comfort and ability zone, and I would happily see him go, but he had a bum steer today what with Cashin most likely not in the right frame of mind, Thommo (and some legs) not available to him in midfield, Rooney’s injury, Bradley (his big summer signing) making another poor mistake, having to play 45 minutes with 10 men, and a flukey deflected winning goal for Bolton.
That doesn’t though excuse a performance where as a team we only could put 200 passes together (120 successful), and one shot on target (presumably the penalty). There really must be a major flaw in his system, not just bad luck, that has contributed to todays result. We do have some very good League 1 standard players. They should be performing better.
That all said, If we had got a point today, it would have been a very good point.
David Clowes is unlikely to sack Warne yet; I think we must all know that. The international break has come at a good time for us, and Warne. Hopefully it will help some players recover from injury, Bird, Barkhuisen, Thommo and Sibley, and give some breathing space for Fornah, John-Jules and Embleton to settle into the squad. However, it will hopefully also be a period in which Warne (and his coaches) realise that they must be doing something a lot better with the set of players we have. We need to start playing more controlled football, not simply looking to gas-out the opposition. We really aren’t good enough to do that unless he wants to drop a lot of the older members of the squad. In the next 2 months, with the options he now or will have available, there has to be a discernible improvement in performance otherwise I think fan reaction will force Clowes’s hand.

Not his shot stopping but his shithousery.

After Peterbrough got their second one of their players took the ball off him and he went down holding his head. He was not touched on his head. He stayed down and got treatment for a fake injury.

I hate faking, but faking head contact is just trying to get a player sent off. Needs stamping out the game.

    Thought it might be useful to share the quotes from Warne pre-match on Friday;
"Hopefully I will have another player in the building for tomorrow. But I've said that many times.
We are bordering on agreeing and if we can get it done today then great.
I honestly don't think it will happen (before tomorrow). We need three or four signings. That is imperative to help the lads.
At the moment it is the same sort of players going out every game and we do need a much greater strength in depth. That is for certain. We are going to try."
    Quotes taken from here;

I mean it won’t actually be useful because people will pull this quote apart also. But my take from this was that Warne set fairly realistic expectations that we’re trying to sign a player, because he knows the squad needs strengthening, and it might take a bit more time to get it done.

I miss Curtis Davies. Not the footballer any more, although he would fit in perfectly, but the leader and the man. If there were dressing room problems he would act as a conduit and would help sort it out. If there was a disconnect between players and manager the same thing would apply. If there weren’t any off field issues he would be on the radio talking directly to the fans, reminding us where we had come from and promising to sort it out. And he would be trusted and believed.

I don’t know about these rumours but I wonder if they would be surfacing and wonder if the players would look so dispirited at the start of the season if Curtis was still there.
I am now going to think about his goal against Reading and the Birmingham match to raise morale.

Should he be immune forevermore? No of course not.
Were the "good budget" comments possibly unwise? Perhaps.
But is there anything to suggest that organisationally there is a problem on the ownership side? No.
We do not know the ins and outs of the EFL agreed business plan, but the very fact the EFL accepted it in lieu of enforcing their restrictions implies its de facto restrictions anyway.
Without knowing what friction may or may not be there behind the curtain between Warne and those above him and if there are any wrongs or just diffenences of opinion, I'm reluctant to take a side.
We're all just frustraited with a very poor start to the season, seemingly a poor transfer window and a complete lack of "good vibes".
We all want out of League 1, but the ownership have given Warne what should be sufficient tools to have a serious go at that and he appears to be making a hash of it.

Warne seems very much to be in a traditional “manager” role where he, along with a couple of others (one of whom is his own right-hand man), are effectively running the whole football club. I’ve always been in favour of a director of football model and a clear identity running through the club that means changing managers won’t have a seismic effect on playing style, recruitment style, etc.
I also don’t think I’ll ever be convinced Stephen Pearce should be anywhere near the club, though it doesn’t wind me up as much as it does others.
I can’t really criticise the appointment of Warne. I thought it was a bold but good decision at the time. Though I’m certainly having serious doubts about him now. Even if he turns it around and we go up, I think there’s very little chance we end up pushing for the Premier League with him in charge - he just doesn’t seem to have the tactical nous and seems to struggle with pressure.

To clarify, what do you consider to be the modern and the better way of running a football club?
I don't think anyone should be immune from fair and measured criticism and I reckon DC would agree.
Appointing PW could be open to criticism but I don't know about the recruitment set up. None of us really know all the targets we've approached and, where appropriate, the reasons the signings didn't materialise.

I like Warne but the big worry is we need radical change in how we play , like keeping the ball on the floor a bit more and some movement
I can't think of many if any managers that change there own ideals and adopt a different strategy and basically tear up there own methods which have brought them success but this is exactly what he needs to do
He is a Derby County manager in League1 with all of the pressure that goes with that and has or did have better players than what he's been used to, therefore he needed to bring with him his passion and desire to win but also be flexible enough to use the better players he has at his disposal, we are not a Rotherham punching above our weight we are a bigger club with higher expectations and i hope he changes his philosophy of how he wants us to play....but I personally have my doubts now

how can we control a game with big hoofs up the pitch to no one …
We are Derby County and look more like a league1 club than ever …no control no passing no shots on target …Oxford aren’t great but at least they’re trying to play football
I will say this now I wish we’d kept Rosenior or brought in a manager who wants to play football because we had decent players but instead we are looking like a fully  fledged league1 side now …get the ball down and play football ffs
