Even when you start a post saying 'i'm not blaming the fans' you get accused of blaming fans. More strawmen than the Wizard of Oz auditions.

I wouldn't say we were to blame, but there was a lot of moanijnv during the Glick/Clough years about lack of investment and there weren't too many fans moaning about how much we were spending in the Clement and Pearson eras

I like potted beef. Not those awful sandwich pastes in a bottle, but proper potted beef.

I'm thinking it will be a bit Tim Vine/Stewart Francis like.
Enough hits, at a face enough pace, to cancel out the misses.

Maybe we could just boycott the food and drink stalls. I like the idea of Gibson having to take 500 pies home before they go off.

Surprised you've not said as much before

These are fair points. I agree that a large number of fans would've encouraged Mel to rein in the finances if he'd been more transparent. I will point out, however, that GSE's budget justification to avoid spending was met with a good degree of scepticism from fans. It's much easier to believe a lie when it's what you want to hear.

Some fans did, some fans didn't. Attendances were dropping under GSE because people were unhappy with the perceived lack of ambition. Clough's tenure still gets slated by many on here because we spent within our means and repeatedly finished mid table. I'm not saying this absolves Mel of responsibility. If all chairmen let themselves be subject to the whims of fans then every club would be in severe financial difficulty. I am saying it should be recognized that a significant proportion of Derby fans did want increased spending and didn't really care to think about the potential consequences.

I would be astonished if Liverpool took Gerard only on the back of what he's 'achieved' at Rangers. The risk would be that he'd just turn into the new Solskjaer or Lampard.

You should be ashamed of yourself Curtains. To be honest, I blame you nearly as much as I blame for Mel Morris for our predicament.

I'm not arguing the above point though.
I'm just saying that right here and right now, he's done as well as any manager realistically available to us could do.
I wanted him gone well before the end of last season, you'll find a thread started by me saying as much if you search back, but that doesn't stop me giving him credit for how he's performed since, now it's clear just what constraints he's been working under.
I don't think he'll be here next season if we're in League One either, for various reasons, but right now he's earned my respect and backing for the job he's doing, pulling a club together in these circumstances is probably more important than the performances and results on the pitch right now, and they haven't been terrible in the circumstances.

Looking at that squad, we would need at least 4 senior players (2cCB, CF and 1 WF) to have a chance of finishing top 6. I would agree the younger players would get more time but that would need to be around a platform of senior players.

Both eaten separately and yes flavour is enhanced cold. Whereas as the taste of beer is lost when it is too cold. When i say cold lasagne, maybe lukewarm

Nothing wrong with cheese and a rich fruit cake, it's a great combination.
But salad cream with anything is a big no. Ever since being sick after I was forced to eat this vile stuff at school, means just the smell of it, is enough to turn my stomach.
