Bird and Knight start no matter what. It's who else we choose to start which determines where Knight fits into the 11. When we eventually sign a RB, it will be Bird, Knight and Hourihane in the middle.

Ah, so you're suggesting that any player that "doesn't want to play for us" should simply be released? - regardless of the length of their contract ; how much we paid for them; what their possible resale value is? That will make the football transfer market an interesting place....good grief

Yeah I agree and when he's poor he's really poor.
It's never just a case of he made a mistake there. He'll make a mistake and then continue to for the rest of the game.
I don't understand why some of our fans are getting excited about him signing a new deal at all.

So good news/ bad news. The midfielder we were meant to bring in was Kevin McDonald and that was meant to be a replacement for one of Bird/Knight/Bielik who had a bid in for them. McDonald is still training with us but unsure if he’s signing as I’m led to be live it’s a 1 in 1 out policy in midfield. We’re looking at another GK (Blackman has gone to Exeter), a senior RB, 2 Wingers (Murphy gone to Oxford) and a Striker on loan. Expect probably loans in the attacking positions with freebies/ super low fees for the GK and RB

Alan Hinton has always been interested in and appreciative of the work I put in to preserve the history and rich heritage of the club going back a long time so it was a great surprise to hear from him that he wanted to send over his iconic match worn, signed white Hummel boots from the early 1970s.
He was one of the first to go against the grain and you had to have confidence in your ability to stand out to that extent, he did of course have ability in abundance and could ping in a cross from any angle with either foot, he was also top scorer in the Championship Winning season in 1971-72.
A real piece of our history.

I also saw them many times circa 1988/89 as @Stive Pesley. I was chasing about seeing James, The Inspiral Carpets, Stone Roses, The Charlatans, Bridewell Taxis, New Fast Automatic Daffodils, The High, Northside, Cud, Paris Angels, Verve etc and loved every minute of it.
I first saw Happy Mondays at the Aberdeen Venue supporting James on October 14th 1988 Ticket £3.50. They bashed them songs out, and then Bez and Shaun walked off the front of the stage into the crowd and wandered around asking myself included, if anyone had any blow. I still have the fanzine from the gig Halycon Daze ISH ONE, the Aberdeen Alternative Festival Programme and the james chain mail from the gig tucked away in one of many ticket stub files, the ones that survived all the debauchery.
    RIP Paul.

I always thought he was promising and better than average. Rooney saw something particular  and clearly mentored him in a subtly different way than some of the others; making him his sidekick DM partner.

There was a time when I wasn’t fond of the 2 DM’s thing. Thought it was a bit back foot / retrograde. I thought he was better higher up, more influential. I might have been right but circumstances possibly made us do what we did - so perhaps I was wrong too.
Either way, seeing him in the last 2 friendlies against quality opponents  .. he stood out, he is class, a real maestro. The ball to Hourihan, that’s vision and skill all in one. Time and again he has picked a pass with huge intelligence. I’d love it if he sees us back to the championship and Curtiss hands him the armband for an assault on the prem.

Football has change a lot in recent seasons. The traditional number 10 is being given way to a higher press.
Teams are fitter. There are less gaps.
Slow build-ups are easy to defend against. The Martin-Bryson type combo isn’t as effective.
I think we will see in League One many direct teams who play second ball football. Lots of harrying, rushing.
To deal with that we will need to move the ball quickly. Especially away from home.

This…..Saunders and Goddard best pairing I’ve had the pleasure of seeing, lasted all too briefly sadly with Goddard wanting to move back to London. I remember Saunders debut from the top tier of the Ozzie end ?what a way to announce yourself how we could do with that pairing now!

Easier to list those I do!
Particularly follow football, athletics, cricket and golf. Bit of tennis.
I have been known to watch badminton, netball and hockey as I used to play.
    That's about it.

LR will be using these matches to find what doesnt work, just as much as what does work.
teams will sit back then press. centre midfield is key this year. get that combination right, we win. last night we didnt. i sure LR would have seen this and learned from it.
personally i think in proper matches he’d go with either biliek/bird/smith/conner with mcG in a number 10.
harsh on tommo but i feel he gets bullied to easy. still young tho. hopefully he’ll learn

Bit bemused about some of the reactions to the points being made which are a remnant or hangover more appropriately from last seasons away performances.
There's an adage if it ain't broken don't fix it but what's the equivalent one regards if it's not working?
Would have thought that we've endured the learning curve from all of last season to cement the fact that messing around at the back and a ponderous, negative set up away from home yielded us little in dividends so not sure why we are still persisting?
Anyhows not particularly fussed about the result more our insistency to labour a playing "style" that has borne little dividends in the last season.

A change in style for away games could give us an additional 10-12 points over a season, we might not win many, but we’ll stop the never ending away defeats. Most of our goals conceded last season were from us giving the ball away cheaply and leaving our defence exposed.  It had to change - they say a definition of madness is ‘keep doing the same thing, but expecting a different outcome’.
Its also bloody boring football !!

Not bothered about tonight really but I think you are absolutely spot on here.
We won 3 out of 23 away games last season. How we were set up Way clearly didn't work yet we just carried on playing the same way.
We can't seem to play against teams that press us. There's a time and a place to playing out from the back.

Apparently there’s a LB coming on trail from rangers. Interest in Ali Koiki is real but would definitely need to sell to buy. Other than that I have no clue who else
