GenBr reacted to loweman2 in Too big to go down
In the past 50 years twelve teams have been crowned champions of England, just twelve, one of those teams was Derby County, we were champions of England twice ! The size of a team can surely only be measured over the long term, it’s cyclical, sure we can’t compete with the big teams financially but we do have a glorious history, don’t just judge us over the past ten years, and certainly not by this season, give us some credit ! Our time will come again and until it does keep the faith !

We're Derby County. We aren't Derby City. Comparing city sizes is completely irrelevant to size of support when most of our support doesn't live in the city and I would also suggest Leeds are the same. Leeds have fans all over Yorkshire and whilst they might be the only team in Leeds they have a lot of other rival clubs in very close proximity. They have more fans than us - nothing to be ashamed of, but they've got a bigger population - simple as that.
If we drop into League 1 or we have a few seasons with the same tripe as we are watching now or we have a Fawaz type owner you will soon change your tune regarding Leeds low number of fans in the ground in recent years. We've had relative success for the last few years which has pulled more fans in to the ground, but you can't compare that to a Leeds side that have been terribly run until recently - we can very easily see our numbers in the ground collapse again in the coming years

Nah. I've made peace with the fact that we'll never compete with the parachute teams and we'll probably be in this league or lower forever.
As i said i'll take a few seasons of mediocrity if it gives me some exciting games/players again. Slow buildup is the best we can hope for, so no point losing patience with it. We're not going to do a Leeds and appoint a world class manager or run the club the same as Brentford or cheat like Watford, so we have no other options other than slow really.

Read my second post. Maybe I am misreading the rules, but they can still give us a points deduction this season as long as it doesn't relegate us.
You are entitled to your opinion, but a points deduction is still very much possible and I'll discuss what I want regardless of how much it has been discussed over recent weeks - that is the point of the forum. Until the EFL verdict is finalised you are going to have to live with the consequences being discussed on here.

I feel like i always say i'd just like some stability, but i genuinely wouldnt mind a few seasons of mid table if we could have some more memorable games v Forest or even some players i feel some connection to.
Other than maybe some of the youth players none of the players we currently have really make me think they are someone worth keeping. The likes of Bucco, Hendrick, Russell, Keogh, etc all played in some pretty dire seasons for us, but i still felt we were all in it together and a lot of those players will be remembered for a long time. In the current team i wouldnt be that bothered if we got rid of all of them.

Barnsley for the giggles.
Very ordinary team, could go very bad very quickly.

Given in goal, Rosenior, Wassall and Bucko in defence, Steve Mac in midfield and Wazza upfront...sorted...

Hopefully with a new owner and new Manager we can start afresh and a rebuild and start getting those sort of players in again...

There have been times I've been a little wistful for the days of mid-table obscurity under Clough Jnr - The days when we weren't sure if Theo Robinson could somehow turn himself into a good player (spoiler, he couldn't) and when we'd pick up such bargain legends as Craig Bryson (hero) and a little known, unfancied midlands lad from the back end of nowhere could be plucked from (essentially) non-league to become a folk hero (GodBlessBucko)

I'd take just winning a game at this point.
If we somehow stay up i'd imagine it will be several years before we ever get close to challenging for promotion again

Only needed a point and didn't bother turning up. Feels like the same thing could repeat itself at the other end of the table except we won't turn up for about 20 games in a row instead.

Giver over mate, how the hell you can credit Mel for the mess we are in now is ridiculous, he deserves all the abuse thrown at him! He couldn’t run a bath. Bad decision after bad decision has finally taken its toll on the club, sooner he ducks off the better! Fans will always have a higher expectation especially a team of Derby’s Calibre like u said in the first paragraph with a great ground, great academy, decent history! Why shouldn’t we have high expectations? We don’t mean winning the premier league but we certainly don’t mean on the brink of 3rd tier football. Think you need to go back to the beer garden and have a few more beers.

Fancy trading him for Wisdom, Davies and Waghorn? If not, how about we chuck in Carson, Malone and Jozefzoon? Fantastic deal that is... 6 for 1!
-

Unless that low fee is zero we won't be buying him. Unless you fancy some kind of swap deal - we've got loads of good players you can have in return.

Although 100% fan ownership hasn't worked out too well!

Thank God he appointed the right Manager though, think of the mess we might be in if he had gone for a glamour appointment of a novice...we might have even been in a relegation scrap ?

Calling it now. Alonso is a ******** merchant and Mel has had his pants pulled down. Again.
In his desperation to sell he has engaged with entirely the wrong sort of people.
