We’re all frustrated by the apparent lack of activity but,I for one,am not interested in rumours or speculation. Just hoping an announcement will be forthcoming in the not too distant future to perk us all up.

It's the one where he's telling the players that tom will be Captain. Apparently he should have been running around the pitch shouting and getting the players motivated.
 

Interesting move & I suspect was done with his contract situation in mind.
To do well this season, we need Tom to unlock that undoubted potential & have a stand out year in goals & assists. I get the sense with him that he's often quite peripheral - certainly in terms of what we see from him on the park. In theory then, making him the leader of the team & giving him a key role leaves no doubt what we expect from him. Guessing Rooney will also have linked it to Lawrence's omission from the Welsh squad for the Euros & telling him its a shop window for a really good move next season.
I'd be very surprised if Tom stays with us beyond his contract expiring but there is sometimes a danger with players in their last year going through the motions, especially if they're unlikely to sign an extension. Could be a wise call from Rooney & reality is we know that its Kazim, Curtis & Shinnie who are the real 'soul' of the team & they're likely to know that i.e. providing the rationale was explained properly, we could have the best of both worlds.

So what do you suggest? not get bodies in and just give up? miraculously fix all of our EFL problems, get the takeover done, find someone to give us £50m for Knight and blow the lot on a new team of competitive Championship players?
We are where we are (a poorer squad than the one that only just avoided relegation last year, a transfer embargo, the same owner so no chance of the EFL letting up on their vindictive campaign, etc, etc....). Unless a miracle occurs (the takeover goes through, the EFL give us a clean bill of health and Wazza manages to bring in 5-6 quality signings for little money and on minimum wages) then it will be a long hard season of scrapping.....

I would add, an utter lack of understanding of the situation we find ourselves in and the quality of players available to us within the EFL restrictions.
 

What i said was , see if we sign either of them first before all the negativity starts , most of the negative posts on here have not come up with any alternative names to the 2 players in question , at the moment we are limited to what we can sign so why dont we show a more welcoming attitude to potential new signings whoever they may be

Lets see if we sign them first , and if we do why not give them a chance for a change , instead of all this constant hes too old , never been very good , could find better in lower leagues , rather play the tea lady nonsense that seems to accompany most of our rumoured new players

Actually there are plenty who have done just that and been great signings for us but folks tend to remember the negative ones.

They stated the fee was £5m rising to £9m with a 15% sell on clause.

The problem with signing promising youngsters from lower divisions is that they cost money. There may be a small problem with that.
We're limited to free agents and loans right now.
Free agents previously at PL/Champ clubs:
Gary Cahill Scott Dann Phil Jagielka Adrian Mariappa Richard Stearman Richard Keogh Tommy Elphick Sol Bamba Tom Lees Cahill and Dann will likely be out of our price range. Maybe Lees too. Bamba, Mariappa and Elphick would struggle to stay fit for any meaningful length of time. I doubt we'll ever go in for Keogh. So Jagielka and Stearman...

Don't be daft, signing a couple of experienced pros on short deals, when we've lots of youngsters and a shortage in certain positions ain't the same as paying silly money for players like Anya and Blackman.

We need to be realistic as this is now where we are at. The embargo means we are unlikely to be able to compete in terms of wages with most clubs in the championship and some in league 1. We therefore need to look at players with question marks over them like CKR.
Both players mentioned will be better than what we currently have in the squad today.
Jagielka has always been seen as a good leader and pro, and can play centre half or defensive midfield. Whilst unlikely to have the legs he will offer back up and vital experience to what is likely to be a young squad.
Stearman will be the same. Having played over 70 games in the premier League and won  promotion 3 times, twice out of championship and been signed by managers like McCarthy and Wilder would question some of the comments on here about his ability.

I do think fans need to realise what sort of players we're going to be in the market for this summer especially whilst no takeover is done and an embargo is in place.
We will have to make do and whoever comes in give them our full support, whats the point in moaning about them, it helps nobody.
