Its a decent place to start the conversion this...  as soon as you say 'I do / don't rate' a certain player it becomes an argument.
Lots of posters who I rate seem to love the lad so he must be doing something right.
Personally (wrongly in many people's opinions) I'm not 'emotionally' bothered. Nothing against him - and it was a fairy tale way to end his career here - he just doesn't pull me in like other players do.
Maybe I perceive a casual demeanour, lack of crunching tackle, eagerness to play the safe ball   ... and he's just 'ok'. Not pacey,  or aggressive... he's kinda graceful without enough mouth dropping moments of quality to get me out of my seat.
Adams or Bird - I'm picking Adams all day long. Same with Kane Wilson.
Quite happy to accept I'm wrong. Just the way I feel.

I like to watch players who can do things technically that I never could. Not just players who can run faster and further.
Maybe it's because of my job I like watching people develop as people as well as in ability. I think Bird has a higher ceiling than the other midfielders he emerged with.

    As long as you're happy.

Just hoping this lull in proceedings is like a swan gliding along (in Vegas 😬) while back home the staff are wheeling n dealing like mad under the surface to give us a great start for next season.
Premier League is still playing, loads of players still in the play offs...and we've had 2 weeks already to talk to potential targets,  sniff round loans from top teams,  sell players our vision,  offer renewals to those who's contract is up, make contact with players who may become free depending on play offs etc etc.
Feel a bit lost today with no game,  but it's a good thing and should give us plenty of momentum.

I like the bbc for many things, but I dislike how it's able to choose to make events like this popular, then promote them endlessly.
So much great cultural in the world, but the license fee is used to broadcast things like this and Come Dancing into people's home.

We also played them at PP in the cup when Terry was having an affair with Wayne Bridges mrs. chant went something like
“Chelsea wherever you may be, don’t leave your wife at home with Terry he likes a sh@g he likes a bit of fluff and he’ll get your mrs up the duff”
     he wasn’t a happy bunny…

Here's another. Would be allowed these days. 1st game season 84/85. Thousands of us away at Bournemouth. Great crack with the constabulary. Then a very good looking blonde WPC appeared. She was serenaded with "GYTOFTL"... if you know, you know.
She took it in good part and burst out laughing.

The Harry Kewell dive really stuck with me. Glad it's got a mention.
Last minute and he just pushes the ball forward and hits the deck. Before getting up to joyfully celebrate with the Leeds players/fans.
I never felt the Leicester Play Off Final was that 'bad'. Just terribly, horribly gutting. As has been said, it felt like a death. The QPR game felt more like an annoying blip in comparison.

    I would agree.
With Leicester we knew it was the last chance with that team.
With QPR we felt it was just a delay in our rise.
Both preconceptions turned out to be wrong

Quite slow and he isn't particularly engaging...
But its intriguing and has a good pay off eventually.

Very interested to see where he goes next. Hull did spend a lot on transfers, loan fees and wages this year so I assume top 6 was the absolute minimum and he only has 3 wins in his last 13 games.

A midfield 3 of Carsley,Powell and Van Der Laan could play but was also brutal.  Saw an interview with Powell and Carsley in Four Four Two in about 97 where their pre game ritual was to watch Scarface together.  Amused me enough to remember it.

I wouldn't say I was posh or snobby in any way.
Butlins/Skeggy was a regular holiday when I was a kid and I thought it was fine.
Went 15years ago for a cheap weekend and it looked clean,  chalets were modern-ish. Was pleasantly surprised  .. my mate was right....she went regularly and raved about it.
Over the course of the next 24hours I realised I was no longer the child I had been.
The caravan and chalets sat in a semi concrete environment that felt depressing. The pool was cold....I mean really cold.
The people were rough. I'm  sorry they were. At around 6pm there were tons of women in pj's n slippers, smoking and walking round with wine and fags. They then all headed over to the club which consisted of really terrible cabaret acts and everyone getting smashed and swearing at their out of control kids.
We stayed 1 night and went home never to return.

I think if Warne had his way and everything fell into place, we’d be the Leicester title winning sides if 13/14 and 15/16
They weren’t a counter-attacking side, they would just overwhelm you with pace and energy
It’s a bit of false truth that they won the Premier League in 15/16 by playing on the break, they blew teams away for the first half of the season. It was only after the New Year Ranieri realised ‘s***, we can actually do this’ and made them a bit more rigid.

All of the money we did have had to go into wages. We literally didn’t spend a fee on a player. We had weird loans and promotions clauses and all kinds of creativity going on. How else could you describe the other than shoe string? We weren’t able to compete with Bolton and Pompey for players - we even got out manoeuvred by Charlton!
There are things that Warne can be fairly criticised on but I don’t think managing our budget can be one. Credit where credit is due!

Bit of a contradiction there Bris. First, you describe a big part of tactics and in the next sentence, you dismiss it.
    To answer the original question:
I'm not sure if talking only about Warne is fair as coaching is strongly a team effort.
I've seen Warneball being called physical, so why did he have a midfield of Hourihane and Bird for about half of the season? Or that Warneball is putting crosses in? What kind of tactics would you choose if you had Collins upfront? Crosses maybe? Or the other way around, did Didzy score countless goals because we put a lot of crosses in? Nope, we played to his strengths. If I'd describe Warneball to an outsider, I'd call it pragmatic, fluid, and mixable while using our strengths and making the most of our opponent's weaknesses. Attention to detail is a strength when we talk about football management.
Just to highlight how fluid our tactics are: I've seen us defending with 5-3-2, 5-4-1, 4-5-1, 4-4-1-1 all in the same game. Well, we all have because it happened often when Bradley was brought on.
I think he has only two aims when setting his tactics. Firstly, how to get the most out of the striker (how much Didzy, Waggy, Collins, and Gayle have scored, I think he's got that right). The second aim is how to help our keeper to keep a clean sheet. (The least goals conceded in EFL is some achievement). If these two are not about tactics, then what is? And tactics need coaching. With confidence and some experience, I claim that is not an easy part of coaching.
So, tactics are a massive part of coaching and they have excelled. Another would be increasing the player's ability and that's tougher to measure. I haven't seen as fit team as the current one is in ages and it's part of improving the player's ability. Yes, it may have caused some injuries, but that's football. Also, they managed to teach Sibley to play as LWB. On the first try, he was horrible at it but played okay as fullback when he had a player in front of him. It's a testament to Sibbo and the coaching team, and during the run-in, his performances as LWB turned out to be one of the developmental highlights.
It'll sure be an interesting summer ahead. Will we build a midfield like Hourihane-Bird or Adams-Smith-Thommo? They don't have much in common, but the question is, will they continue to be the ones who'll be sacrificed when we aim to be at our best in both boxes?
I think Warne has shown to be an excellent manager, who seems to be able to build a bunch of individuals into a cohesive group and I really appreciate that. At the same time, my personal preference would be much sexier, quick short-passing champagne football. Maybe it'll come when we have the players for it.
