  1. Reflecting on the transfer window overall, I don’t think we should be totally negative.

Over the last decade our transfers have always smacked of short-termism. While we haven’t signed the striker we were hoping for, the signings we have made have been purposeful, shrewd and well-considered.

The consolidation of the squad, and the football club as a business, will likely require us to make measured signings that we can be confident will improve us long-term.

If we need to forfeit signing a Smith or Gregory now to be in a position to take a more proactive, potential-focused transfer strategy in a couple of years, then I’m all for it.

  2. We know our fate now so hopefully we can now push through the sale of the club. The squad for next season is threadbare at present but that’s a blank canvas that presents an opportunity for Rooney, or whoever it may be, to mould the squad entirely to his likening.

It’s a mammoth effort required off the pitch now but I’m feeling optimistic. It’ll be refreshing to travel to new grounds, see a new squad of (hopefully) younger players and not have to agonise through any international breaks for at least a season!

As long as the club survives, there’s plenty to be positive about. COYR

  3. If we do the impossible and complete a takeover and manage to stay up this year, I genuinely believe we have a squad and manager capable of competing for top 6 next season. Especially with Bielik fit, a few new additions and a few loans.

The standard of the league this year has been especially average. Thompson and Ebosele both look to be at least fantastic Championship players. Add to that Bird, Buchanan and Knight as established members of the first 11 and the future is rather bright. Plenty to be positive about.

  4. Have Wycombe even launched a formal legal claim yet? The Boro claim was fantastical but the Wycombe claim is totally baseless.

It’s a shame the rest of the football community don’t seem to care for their parasitic opportunism. It’s paramount the club survives, above everything else, but with Morris settling on our behalf the wider footballing world will only see it as a concession of guilt. I can’t say I’ll ever forgive either club.

  5. If it really does come down to this, football really is in a sorry state. Let’s see a preferred bidder announced and let them negotiate. If they can negotiate a price they deem to be reasonable then so be it. If not, we surely have the right to appeal to the EFL to take it to court? Any less would be extortion and would surely undermine the EFL’s long term position as a custodian of the league and it’s members.

  6. That’s the story of our season. Playing well and feeling good and then we shoot ourselves in the foot.

For the love of God, please stop playing it out from the back. Roos is useless on the ball. Jagielka and Davies aren’t ball playing centre halfs, never have been and never will be.

  7. I imagine the administrators have conceded knowing that there is a buyer (probably Kirchner, possibly Appleby & Co) who is keen to push through a deal with our financial / league position finally established.

If it’s true, the rebuild starts now. Rooney should have full license to recruit for League 1 and to set up a system designed to win games and not just mitigate damages.

Give the fans football to be excited about, even if our fate is set.

  8. The worst case scenario, aside from getting liquidated, would be getting relegated and having further points deductions imposed in League 1.

If we can overcome -12 points, and I think we can, we will at least force the EFL’s hand into imposing more punishments this season. If they do, we can at least have a fair crack at promotion from League 1 next year.

Plus if we can get in new owners this year, we might even be able to retain many of our key young players. Bird, Knight, Watson, Buchanan and Ebosele would give us plenty to build on and be positive about.

  9. A few weeks of pre season for a new manager isn’t ideal, but it’s much better than having to bring someone in to fix a sunk ship come January after Wayne has finally walked.

Byrne, Jozwiak, Sibley, Bielik & Knight (when fit) are players that can be immense under a manager that actually knows what they’re doing.

Hopefully we can let him go by mutual consent, give him a small payoff and let McClaren sort this out.

  10. The man is entirely trading on the back of his name now, if he wasn’t before. Utterly shambolic.

    - Looked lazy and unfit as a player.

    - Undermined the previous manager.

    - Recorded an exceptionally poor run of results as a manager.

    - Instills absolutely no playing style as manager, benching / playing our best youngsters out of position, ultimately regressing their progress and value.

    - A poor communicator, both with the players, fans and media.

    - Repeatedly drags the club’s name through the mud.

At what point does it become worth shelling out to sack him? Purely from a footballing perspective, we’re crying out for an experienced manager. Rooney has done far more harm than good. If replacing him keeps us up is it really too expensive?
