This. Said it on here many times, anybody,  the beeb sets the standard - TV and radio - and all the other broadcadters have to bebloody good as well to compete. The net result is best TV anywhere by a mile. Anybody who thinks otherwise should be forced to watch foreign TV, it is mostly rubbish.

It's always a tricky balancing act for the BBC - who let's not forget do operations commercially as well (quite successful at selling their shoes in other countries).
There needs to be something of the "good for you" content that simply wouldn't get made on purely commercial grounds and having a broadcaster not totally bound to advertising is a beneficial thing to have. But that has to balance against who pays for it and how much they have to pay.
What I like about the BBC is the news, education and local stuff, what the BBC really like is when they have a hit show and can say look, everyone likes this thing the BBC did.
I don't know the right answer anymore than anyone else on thread but I'd rather the BBC did it's dull but worthy stuff and didn't bother so much on trying to be all singing all dancing. And I do count local radio services in the worthy bracket.
I get better milage out of iPlayer than I did out of the now cancelled Netflix or Amazon prime. Recently tried paramount plus, but I know I can cancel it when we've watched what we want.

Such a massive loss to lose Sportscene at 6. Was vital during the administration, getting the daily updates, analysis and interviews. Still listen in Thu and Fri for the Manager's press conference and build up to the match.
And no more emergency phone in after a sacking. ?

Take a bow, 2 great finishes today from the lad, had the chances to bag himself the hat trick but it’s not a day to pick out the negatives.
What a reception he had walking off in front of the stand, must have felt 10ft tall.
He’s given Warne a huge headache now, one of those huge headaches that managers love to have up top.
Collins, Dobbins, Osula, for a team that had nothing just a few months ago, we have some great forward options for this level.
You would have to say he deserves to keep his place in the team against Ipswich, would be harsh to take him out.

I got so excited starting a thread I forgot to say why. I achieve one of my bucket list objectives on Saturday, being part of a hospitality package - 71 seasons after I first went to BBG. Haven’t always been able to attend regularly but have remained a half or quarter fan and followed us faithfully.
My youngest was 50 this year and a well off friend bought him a hospitality package - so, as well as a meal, we get to sit in the director’s box. So, he’s now able to do as he promised and he doesn’t even have to pay for it!
I’m so excited and it’s taken me so long to type this, someone has probably got in before me to start the thread.
    P.S. I hope the food’s better than last night’s football  ?

    I love it.
It's all about finesse.  Patience.  Skill.  A means to an end.  It's the thinking man's approach.  It involves movement, and gentle caressing.
I liken it very much to making love to a beautiful woman... although that usually doesn't involve a 6 yard box... obviously!   ?

This picture says it all. Our Forum members rated Sibbo 2nd highest last Saturday, just a few decimals off Jason Knight whose score of 191 made him MotM. Yet Sibbo only played a few minutes. In the picture Sibbo draws 4 opponents towards him {they perceived him as the threat} before he picked out Houri with a Will Hughes-esque, slide-rule of a forensic pass & wallop…eat my goal. So, I agree, play Sibbo and give him game time to get his sharpness back and watch him fly. Advanced midfield/forward and he will flourish because he’s got bags of talent, and an insatiable desire to punish teams. And to be fair to Wayne R, I think Wayne was being “hard” on Sibbo to shape his character and tame his tendency to lose his head which I do think Sibbo has to channel/manage/curb/control. Sometimes Sibbo’s head gasket blows and he has an over-aggressive blood rush.

    Totally right.
I think Pearson, and or Rowett were like that with Will Hughes. Always played him out of position, and ruined him at Derby.
It proved to me what a poor manager Rowett really was.

Cocu loved Sibley. My feeling is that, for all the plusses of Rooney's leadership of the club through dark times, Rooney bullied Sibley. He constantly denigrated young Louie, hardly played him and when Rooney did put him in the team it was out of position. He was never allowed a bad 45 minutes. Having good games didn't reward him with a spot in the team. It all seemed designed to knock Sibbo's confidence.
I would be horrified if Sibley goes. If he stays and we use him as we should, it gives us the best chance of promotion. But given Rosenior was part of the management setup with Rooney last season, this will now have become a very difficult relationship. If I was managing Sibley I would take the pressure off, pick him as the first name on the teamsheet in central midfield, encourage him to carry the ball forward at pace and tell him he will start for at least a dozen games in a row to give him chance to regain his confidence and make his mark.

Well happy with that! We have things to work on, but have plenty to work with!
It was actually quite a good game of football, especially the first half, and felt at times that there was quite a difference in quality between the two teams. Our opening 20 minutes was especially good. And for the first 45 minutes was happy with the notion put forwards in the forum pre-match that Oxford were a footballing side. Even so, there was plenty of "thug" about their play, and they had definitely singled out our key players - Max Bird was clattered heavily on 3 or 4 occasions, needing 2 lengthy bouts of treatment, and they had a go at Jason Knight as well.
Oxford only made a half hearted attempt to press our playing out from the back, and we quickly established a pattern between Davies, Wildsmith and Cashin, which followed the same pattern during the entire match, and what it did was create space further up the pitch, something which Oxford never really addressed, and for a change our playing out from the back didn't create any danger. Conversely, when we did pick the ball up at the back, there was an almost complete aversion to trying to catch Oxford out with a breakaway. Maybe something to work on there.
Once again the match officials displayed their allegiance to their EFL masters - we actually got 45 - 50 minutes of reasonable officiating, although the ref couldn't wait to book Collins. Our striker puts himself about a bit, and after his first hefty challenge the ref had a lengthy chat. He completely ignored the constant barging and pushing off the ball by their centre forward and centre half, and fell for several dives as soon as Derby player got within a yard or two of an Oxford shadow.
Second half and Oxford were clearly sent out to rough things up, with 3 really nasty challenges, all gong un-noticed. But when Collins challenged their left back(?) he didn't make any contact, but the defender flew through the air like he'd been hit by an Exocet missile, and out came the yellow card like it was on steroids. Moments later Knight was clattered with a challenge that lifted him 2 feet in the air, but the ref didn't even give a free kick. Towards the end, Davies went in hard and was carded almost immediately, with what was his first offence, and yet again there were at least 3 Oxford players who should have been carded.
It was getting to be frustrating, and then Sibley came on, and immediately Oxford tried to wind him up. And suddenly his running was pulling their defence all over the place and making spaces, and it was only a matter of time  before we scored. There were 3 consecutive bagatelle sessions in the Oxford area, and the inevitable goal duly arrived. And isn't great to get that feeling back? What is also great is the universal acknowledgement of Sibley's impact. Here's to a great season, Louie!
Despite the criticism from a West stander, the noise from the South Stand was tremendous for long periods, especially in the first half. The pre-match noise on the concourse was louder than for the Brighton play-off semi!
Its great to be back. Thank you David!

    Hello Joe,
Thank you for your kind comment, it will be a DCFC U21 team and maybe one or two first teamers who need a run out, we always try to play the Rams in preseason and its usually one of our first games but securing the safety of your club that plays a big part in the Derbyshire football landscape as a whole took priority as it should.
We "blew" promotion by not having the spending clout of other teams at that level, we aren't bank rolled and our staff is 90% volunteers who work full time hours in our community. Our income is simply what we make on matchdays and through sponsors but costs are rising and it is a constant battle to stay above water.
We were unable to field a team against Alfreton Town due to a mix of injuries, player holidays and work commitments. Most of our lads work a nine to five and so they use their work holidays throughout the season, it was unfournate but these things happen.
I hope you enjoy the opening game of the Rams season and thank you for your comment.

    Hello friends,
I hope this thread finds you all well on this warm Sunday afternoon.
As a club, we were strong supporters of the "Save Derby County" campaign as we strongly believe no fan base or community should have to face losing their football team and we were overjoyed when our friends at Clowes UK came to the rescue. Clowes UK sponsor Matlock Town including our away strip so it's fantastic to all be part of the same football family.
To celebrate the continued links, The Proctor Cars Stadium will be hosting Derby County on Friday 29th July with a 7:45pm kick off. It promises to be a fantastic evening of celebrations as the Gladiators will wear our Clowes UK away strip for the first time ever, the Clowes UK Cup will be up for grabs and they will be in attendance and we get to celebrate together the saving and hopefully thriving existence of the club you all love.
Tickets are available now via the following link - https://matlocktownfc.ktckts.com/event/mtl2223hpre3/matlock-town-v-derby-county-u-21s
We are hoping for 2300 sell out which we believe can be made possible by two fantastic fan bases. We were encouraged by Rams fans on Twitter to add a donation ticket option for those who want to help us out but are unable to attend for one reason or another.
As a community based non league team which doesn’t have a wealthy owner we rely solely on our community to fund the club whether through gate receipts, sponsorship or donations. Any donations would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you to all who took the time to read this post and we hope to see you this coming Friday.

That was pretty all right. For saying quite a few of the players have hardly had time to say hello to each other, they did all right, especially the first half eleven. They looked very promising, and showed a desire to get the thig forwards and have a go, despite the obvious penchant to play it out from the back. There may be an element with some of them of having to learn how to do it, and at times it seemed they wanted to keep on doing it all afternoon, but overall the team were quite positive. Sibley did well, especially as he was yet again played out of position, and would have laid the first goal on for Barkhousen if it hadn't been deflected. And we got a bit of luck with the ball falling to the lethal Fozzy!!!
YEs we struggled in the second half, as it was more a case of boys against men. the second half team had obviously had even less time to say hello, probably only getting as far as the first "l", and most of the Bradford team were unchanged at the start of the second half. In addition, they were much more aggressive in the second half, and truly looked like a Mark Hughes team. And the ref was Mr Madley, which explains the Derby booking for virtually no contact, and nothing for a torrent of heavy challenges towards the end from Bradford. So the match officials are going to show consistency, are they? Oh well . With that in mind, for the second set of players to keep the score at 2 - 0 was good work, I think.
I have no criticisms of the players - mistakes and sloppy passes are because this was the first match of pre-season. And I will stand up for Jack Stretton. He hardly got a sniff because we struggled to get out of our half. I am just as frustrated with Jack as many on here, but for different reasons. When he got his first matches he looked sharp, and knew where to be as a striker, which is where his first goal came from. Then, without a drop in form, he was gone, disappeared from sight, and fed only a few scraps of cameos and subs appearances on rare occasions, and had clearly contracted Sibleyitis. He suffered rom Derby County referees disease several times, with clear WWF tactics used on him, which are apparently allowed with the regulations, according to our Bobby. So no surprise he didn't end the match with 27 goals.
I am really hoping that both Sibley and Stretton get a fair chance in their best positions before the jury retire to consider their verdict. And although today was only really about match fitness, there was plenty out on the pitch to be encouraged about.

Putin is a Bamford. I couldn't give a duck if he capped sunflower oil prices or gave kids some money for New Year.
He is currently invading a country, sending young lads to their death on a lie. He's killing civilians, he's killing economies, he's killing a democracy.
The bloke doesn't like the West. He doesn't like democracy, he doesn't like freedom of speech, he doesn't like opposing views and he certainly doesn't recognise he is currently committing War Crimes. He poisons and imprisons dissenters.
Going on about the hypocrisy of the West does not excuse the invasion of another country. Going on about how the average Russian is better off than they were 20 years a go, when they have enormous oil and gas reserves does not paint the whole picture. Dianne Abbott could probably run up a reserve even with her Maths skills.
Zelensky is going to die. He knows that. It's the only way he has a chance of saving his country. Its the choice he took. If he fled, we would already be seeing Russian flags high above buildings in Kyiv.
