Not sure Shinnie would have made a huge difference but the midfield was as poor as the rest of the team. In a tight and congested game, what Barnsley did well was move the ball quickly side to side into space, whereas we did everything so slowly it was easy for them to get across and cover. And far too often we turned back into a congested area and ended up losing it rather than turning out and spreading the play.
I don't remember Knight doing a great deal with the ball (though I was quite low down in the stand so sometimes hard to see at distance), while Morrison held onto it far too long and Bird was just short pass back or side. Lots of times the full backs were in plenty of space but it took too long to get the ball to them. We needed to be far more dynamic as a unit in midfield to positively impact the game. 
 

I don’t think we missed him.  There was not much wrong with the midfield last night. We didnt have a forward line to speak of, we had a Captain as limp as a fortnight old lettuce, and a normally solid enough defence who last night on two occasions went on their holidays. 

Perhaps you should change your name to DCFC Sucks ?  Much still to fight for. 4th from bottom will do, even though that looks a big ask at the moment.

The two centre backs and our big No. 9 are, however, all some 5 years or more past their prime, Morrison is an enigma, and Bird is only 20/21. I have hopes Knight might make a footballer too, but he does need to work on his quality.

Tom Ince was a far better player in my opinion.  He scored goals, had some pace and someone paid 10.5 million for him.

I actually despise the lot of them , what has actually happened to our beloved club from top to bottom , players don't even look bothered just walk off with their heads down knowing they'll still be paid anyway , livid

Bird my MOTM tonight in what has been a pretty dire performance. Tidy in possession, always available to receive the ball and tried to keep things ticking over. Shame his teammates were not up to scratch tonight.

I wondered last week if the team would start to regress after the initial defiance and adrenaline had ran out.
An inexperienced manager,no real or effective number 9,a very limited squad and 12 points deducted couldn’t fail to have a negative effect on the squads morale in time…. Combine it with an ongoing lack of wins or goals and it’s no surprise the lads heads are dropping.
The fans outstanding and amazing support home and away can only do so much.

The we might as well give up, bye bye championship comments are a bit childish. Granted we’ve been poor tonight and probably will go down but let’s hope the team can keep their heads up. Thankfully the travelling support don’t sound like they’re giving up just yet. 

Once again, the only player to really come out with any credit is Bird. Always finds himself in a position to recieve the ball, always passes forward, tries to up the tempo and dictate play. Plus he very rarely loses the ball.

This is going to be a thrashing.
