You can only say it as it is. Yes we beat Germany, yes we thrashed the mighty Ukraine and they received plenty of praise for both of those performances.
Sadly though, like it or not, we were second best for most of the game last night. Not a poor performance, just not as good as Italy on the whole.

If think you’re confusing profit and loss with cash flow. As I understand it (I stand to be corrected), tax liabilities (almost certainly PAYE in our case as discussed at length) would be applied to the P&L in the accounting period it was incurred regardless of when you paid it. Therefore, delaying payment might help your cash flow but it wouldn’t impact you P&L.

Any accountants out there please keep me honest.

There is nothing wrong with telling it like it is. By some distance, Italy were the best team all tournament and absolutely deserved to win it.
And at the same time, by some distance, this is the best England side in half a century.
Telling it like it is not happening with some people. For them, they are framing the narrative of last night as if it’s akin to not qualifying in 2008.
Being second best to the best team in Europe - and, when the South American teams are not on top, that also means the world too - is not a failure.

Why wouldn’t we? You can’t turn down a sponsorship deal simply because one of their competitors is (allegedly) a fan of the club.

    That’s a Fair point
although selling a football club I’m sure I’d imagine is a wee bit more complicated than a house sale
especially when your dealing with people’s salaries and a dodgy / fake sheik/ potential owner
    but it’s a valid point ?

To use your analogy, surely the seller (of a business or private property) is liable for things like gas, electric, rates (business or domestic) until such time as you hand the keys over. I.e. completion not exchange of contracts. That why you read the meters on the day you move out. You don't do on the day you exchange contracts or project/estimate them forward to you proposed or agreed completion date.

You are probably right, could be a long time.
I still think the PMs I can remember (Thatcher onwards) would have all been much better at saying:
    a) this is the situation
    b) this is what we think is the best course of action
    c) this is what you have to do
The only time we've had that was when we finally lockdowned the first time.
So many of the decisions have just invited obvious questions that have been ignored/glossed over.
Not just with the current regime, but we need decision makers with the requisite experience and leadership qualities.
These are some of the most important jobs in the country. We need to find a way of getting highly competent people to do them.
Javid seems a big upgrade on the joke of Hancock and Sunak seems decent so far.

Well it is personal choice isn't it? They appear to have just modified the tone a bit - as you say.
By the way, I look forward to the day when a government, of any persuasion, achieves your ambitions.

Yes that was already mentioned on these endless threads. It must have been agreed with HMRC though or they wouldnt have paid any furlough claims to us.

Of course you would. The seller is still responsible for council tax until completion and, you’re still required to make your mortgage repayments until the mortgage has been repaid.

Yes of course you would, you're legally responsible until the sale goes through so you'd carry on paying until that point. In our case it didn't happen though so Morris is still responsible for those financial commitments.
It seems very cavalier, reckless or just naive for Morris to assume that the buyer was going to pick up those financial commitments before the sale had gone through.
Sounds akin to a conversation in a pub when you're totally leathered about tapping a total stranger up for some cash.

Sounds like but the best outcome but I wouldn’t hold your breath.
The rest of your concerns would of course be dependent on the remit of any such regulator.

Masks have to be worn at all times (except when drinking/eating) in the Man Utd pre season game, with a 25% capacity.
It does seem odd to go from that, to a free for all the next day.

You missed that another EFL club (Sheff Weds) didn't pay their players for 4 months and got what might be seen as a more lenient punishment.

This a good and fair punishment isn’t it? We didn’t pay our players, we know that’s a big deal with the EFL, but if we pay players next season - like a club should - then we get away scot-free. Or have I missed something?

I mainly agree with you ... but ... improving the EFL might be much better than introducing an alternative.
That way, what needs fixing can be fixed. Changing the regulator could just leave many problems in place, and even introduce new ones.

You may be right but, if we always adopted the mantra of “careful what you wish for” nothing would even change, regardless of how broken the current situation is, through fear that the new order might be worse or, at best, no better than the existing. You could say the same about the takeover. Who’s to say whoever comes in will not make things worse?
