I should've been more specific with what I said. I don't care about his record as a player. I absolutely do care about his managerial record for the following reason. All the main pro Rooney arguments are based upon the adverse conditions he was dealing with at Derby. The Birmingham job was a chance to see how he would fare without points deductions or takeover rumours as a distraction. With his players being paid on time and taking over with the team in 6th instead of 24th. As we all saw, that Birmingham stint didn't exactly lend any credence to the idea that Rooney would've been a successful manager here if only the circumstances had been better.
I don't think Rooney was useless, just not very good and vastly overrated by most Derby fans. He was definitely better than Phil Brown.

I've never been that impressed with Stoke 

Will Vaulks contract talks with Wednesday have stagnated. He was their player of the season last year and has previous with Warne. 
I wouldn’t be surprised if we were throwing a few spanner’s in the works to see if we can persuade him to sign for us. He suits the system, is well known to the manager and is a proven at Championship level. If we can pick up Vaulks and Bernard on frees from Wednesday that would be lovely start to the window.

Brandon Williams has been released by Man Utd - he recently got a driving ban for accruing 30 points so could be a bit of a twonk but he's previously done pretty well on loan at Norwich, and this season at Ipswich, although he was injured/ill after December. 23, left-back.

Seen Omari Forson released by Man Utd, 19 y/o winger. Would certainly be looking at that.

Kayden Jackson also on Ipswich's released list. Plenty of links with him in the January window. 

He’s a good player. We need good players. Warne obviously rates him.  He’s on a free. I understand the risk but I would take the gamble.

I seem to remember someone from the club saying that the rams medical team had managed to get to the bottom of the long term issues that he’d been suffering with - if that’s true then the season ending injury may just have been a case of us being desperate for a striker and rushing him back and him being over keen to show what he could do. He may not be quite such a risk if he can get a ‘Warne’ full preseason under his belt….
