Yes, that's how I see it. It sort of reminds me of O Level History & the bit about the medieval practice of ducking stools. Drown and you're not a witch, survive getting submerged for 10 minutes and you get burnt at the stake.
As for the EFL having a vendetta, the truth is that we have been badly run by our owner. The ultimate blame lies with us.

Just wanted to bump this thread from last month in light of recent events.
I maintain its very unlikely we'll be playing League One football come August but there will be an inevitable weariness to this constant uncertainty with no clear end in sight. Its relentless & I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one who is shaking their head with incredulity at all this, feeling really powerless & just craves a normal, quiet summer with the odd new signing
    Things to remember;
    1. Perspective - this club has come through some really grim times & yes, we're back here again but we survived in 1984, we survived in 2003-05 & we'll bounce back from this too. And others; Luton got a 30 point deduction, sank into non-league not so long back - they finished above us last year. Leeds were minus 15 points in League One & they came back too. Secondly, as some of the posts earlier on this thread demonstrate, there's some proper hard times being experienced by some out there that makes football seem very unimportant indeed.
    2. Whatever the morons behind the ESL think, clubs are all about the fans & this particular club is lucky to have a very loyal & large fanbase. We're a massive community of like minded folk - please don't forget & that this place is great for venting feelings, however irrational/furious/hopeless
    3. Tomorrow is another day & things don't stay the same indefinitely. All this will pass.
In the spirit of the second point, I'm going to back off the Rooney bashing for a bit. Made my feelings crystal clear but frankly I'm more concerned about the club stabilising and the fanbase uniting as a group & showing the commitment & loyalty needed to ride out these rough times. And if he does stay come what may & tries to turn this ship around, I'd be lying if that wouldn't impress me massively.
Long live DCFC, they'll never keep us down... ?

Oh don't get me wrong, over the season i agree that we were lucky to stay up on such a low points total.
But to say we couldn't do the job ourselves I still disagree with, we did do the job by drawing when we knew the Rotherham result.
Who's to say we wouldn't have won in the last 10-15 mins had we known Rotherham had won? For a start we wouldn't have put Davies on for Waghorn would we! Mind with this manager maybe we would have...

Wycombe's owner is an opportunist, the irony, for me, and this may not be popular, is that if any side should stay up at our expense, it is Rotherham. They, along with Wednesday & us, were the only other sides in with a realistic chance of survival on the final day, not Wycombe, who had a vastly inferior Goal Difference.
They came within 5 minutes of achieving survival themselves, and it took an equalizer and a 6pts deduction to ensure we stopped up.
Rotherham did call off games due to Covid 19, playing 3x in March, but they played 9x in April (Wycombe 6x) and 3x in May (2x for the rest of the division). How does that ensure the integrity of a competition? I'm surprised by how little fuss Rotherham have made, perhaps the final standings render this pointless, but on a moral level, they competed until the very end & actually took maximum points off us.

Not really a suprise is it. I don't blame him. Why would you bother with it? Broken promises, failed takeovers, embargos, no transfer funds, a small squad, another season of struggle. We are a complete and utter joke.

Maybe its just me but I can't sit here and cry about the EFL after the way we've been operating for the past few years.
Rolled the dice, failed multiple promotion attempts and have tried loophole after loophole to try and straighten out since. How many non-parachute payment clubs were giving Darren Bent (and the rest) tens of thousands a week in this division? Sold their stadium to themselves? Signed a player through a sponsorship deal? Registered player amortisation different to the required standard?
I just can't sit here and say we've tried our best to avoid this mess, its been coming.
If that view makes me less of a Derby fan than the super supporters are, so be it. I'll support the club where ever it ends up but I'm not going to lie about its shady activity post 2014.

Asanovic70 reacted to LazloW in When do we stop panicking?
Probably the time to stop panicking (although I’d say, more the time to stop being anxious) is when a line has been drawn under the whole sorry mess and we can start again.

If that’s from League 1 then so be it. Other clubs are, and have been, in such circumstances and survived (or even prospered).  I wouldn’t want it or relish it, but it wouldn’t stop me going. It might even be quite interesting to see something a bit different.

Either way, I just wish we’d get to a point where it’s sorted; there are no more appeals, no more charges and no more uncertainty. We cant move on until then.

I appreciate that is what he has tried to do, but he has failed with that miserably. We used almost no acumen in the market and spent like crazy to try and compete. We have been leap frogged by most of the clubs in the league who dont have parachute payments despite spending more than them and they havent had to play with their accounting.
Its sad to see because Mel does care... he and pearce are just not very good at running a football club unfortunately.

Hate the EFL, but to say Mel is blameless is stupid, look where we was in 2014 and have a look now, some on here are blind to how foolish Mel has been over the last 6/7 years, but its all about opinions, for me Mel has ruined the club, especially in the last couple of years.

Asanovic70 reacted to RadioactiveWaste in Please don’t blame Morris and Pearce.
Just to be clear, Wycombe aren't the bad guys and ignoring the moralistic stuff, they have a slim chance of staying up by this, so have got to push it, and if they are pushing it of course they have to *say* it's all about truth, justice and fair play. I've no issue with them adopting that position, because any club in their position would.
My loathing towards Gibson and the EFL is pretty strong. I loath them for the process. However, Mel and Pearce are ultimatly culpable as the stewards of DCFC.

Asanovic70 reacted to Duracell in Please don’t blame Morris and Pearce.
It’s remarkable that in one transfer window under this ownership and leadership, we spent more than Borussia Dortmund.
We’ve broken our transfer record. Twice.
While the legality of what we have done is up for debate, the fact it was a high stakes gamble is not. We had half a decade to get promoted before the losses caught up with us, and we didn’t get promoted.

The main reason we are in this mess is that vast sums of money has been spent on players, management and compensation, none of which has made the footballing side of the club any better than it was in 2014. It’s kept us competitive for most of that time, granted, but it’s a hopelessly inefficient way of doing it fraught with risk.
Just because the EFL have behaved abhorrently does not mean that we can’t look inward and acknowledge the reckless mismanagement that has squandered tens of millions of pounds for zero gain.
