I don't really disagree with a lot of the points you've made in this. Not all that surprised to see this post after that interview and those Owen Bradley tweets today, but fair is fair.
He was dealt an awful hand for his first spell in management. He was getting results when Bielik was in the team. He is likely to be able to acquire some pretty decent signings, be that loan or permanent, much akin to Lampard when he was here. I also don't think it's worth dredging up Cocu anymore in regards to Rooney. His time has come and gone now. And expectations will not be wild and disproportionate next season. Or at least, they won't be from me anyway. Mid-table would be just fine.
But does he deserve this job? Does he deserve it?
Based on his 30+ games in charge so far? No.
Did he deserve it in the first place? I would say no. But that's come and gone now.
Has he kept his job other than anything other to do with the fact that his name is Wayne Rooney and that we are absolutely skint? I don't think so. If his name was Micheal Tonge he would of been shown the door months ago. Well, let's be honest, he wouldn't have even gotten the job in the first place.
So where do we go from here?
Let's be brutally honest...95% of the fanbase could vote in any poll anywhere you like and it wouldn't matter a jot. He isn't going anywhere. Not under Mel, and certainly not under any new consortium that he may or may not be courting himself.
So therefore, we sort of have to get behind him, don't we? He is going to be here whether we like it or not. Whether he deserves it or not. I personally can't stomach him, the cult of personality he brings with him, nor can I bare watching this club turning into Wayne Rooney FC, which it has been since the day Mel signed him. I don't want to see him as the manager of this football team. But he is.
So, I guess, in essence, I agree with you. A huge part of my initial problem with his appointment was that it wasn't appropriate to hire a rookie in that season, considering the way it had gone. I think I was proved right on that.
But a new season is a chance for a fresh start. He will get a few months, and that will be more than he deserves.

Reasons for keeping Rooney on as manager:
Sacking him will cost money given that he is under contract.
.........I honestly can't think of another.
    Reasons for sacking Rooney:
    Unqualified
    Inexperienced
Player development seems to have regressed alarmingly, especially the young players.
Team selections and tactics are chaotic and constantly changing. The lack of continuity can't help players settle in their roles and suggests there is no settled game plan.
His teams generally play ugly boring football.
His lack of effort to stay fit when still on the playing staff betrayed a lack of professionalism.
    His in-game substitutions are poor.
Sacking him will mean we won't have to look at the 'Wayne Rooney's DCFC fans' anymore.
Post Bielik, over the last third of the season Rooney's team had the worst form in the entire EFL, including 6 straights defeats before the final match.
Avoided relegation on 44 points, a total that would get a team relegated most seasons, helped by Sheff Wed''s point deduction, Rotherham's fixture pileup and ultimately saved by Sir Marlon Pack's  88 minute equalizer.
.........I am utterly bemused by any Derby fan being supportive of keeping him on as manager.

No. Can see him doing another Sol Campbell and disappearing up his own rear end somewhere eventually.
Nice though to have us on his CV as the first club managed to be relegated in his career.

I think no matter what he won't be here next season, do you think he will go on to be a good manager? Unlike Frank I don't think Rooney has the tactical brain unfortunately. Top player though.

We should be protesting just like them lot at Old Trafford.
Take away the plastic fans and the Mancs are a knowledgeable lot. Derby used to be the same until they were brainwashed. The club's on the brink and arguably in a worse position than 83-84 and we just let it continue because Melvyn is one of our own.
    It's a shambles. Wake up !!

It's not worked out, in most cases I have agreed with his appointments and transfers but they have not come to fruition. I think the biggest mistakes lie in recent years appointing Cocu and signing Rooney with what appears to have been a prerequisite to be manager sooner or later, this for me is what has destroyed the club, we were at a cross road when Lampard left and all we have done is take wrong turns since.

If by chance we went down and spent next season in league 1 and fans were allowed back in to watch what type of attendance with this situation do you think we would get? Because I think we would be lucky to get 15,000. To watch garbage like that especially if Morris is still in charge of the club.

The sky sports article on Alonso was helpful.
However, I now turn my attention to Rooney.
Rooney is a big name, he might well help attract talent to Derby.
Rooney doesn't have his fa coaching badge.
Rooney while fielding a weak team and not being able to strengthen it effectively has except with loan players, most of whom were probably the best he could get at the time with team facing potential relegation.
Do I trust Rooney to strengthen the team with enough talent to promote the club.
Do I trust Rooney to stop making tactical blunders, because in my opinion he's picked the wrong tactics several times and cost Derby the match.
At present I'm thinking Rooney would make a good assistant manager but he's not the finished article ready to take Derby through a promotion challenge.
He doesn't look to me like someone who can mastermind enough wins.
This season the teams largely been to weak to be a threat at the championship level.
Next season the newly demoted teams with their parachute payments will be in the strongest position to win promotion.
There are a number of more tactically astute managers than Rooney in the championship already.
Derby need a manager who knows how to win promotion to the Premier league.
    Can Rooney achieve that.
Its a gamble for Alonso to say he puts his trust in Rooney
I know these things have been said already.
I'm just revoicing the thoughts of others

Steve McLaren is a coach at best. Took Clough’s team that took 3 years to build, made some minor amendments and reaped the rewards. Look at his time at QPR and with us the second time. I remember watching us play Brighton away and he was on the touchline laughing with C Hughton, whilst 3-0 down! Absolutely appalling, I can’t believe there’s a thread about him again!

Mac 3... clearly some of our fans know nothing. I guarantee if he came in now we would not just click like last time because the foundations are not there. Clough  took years to build that that team and it irritates me that Mac gets so much credit for it. Yes he did a great job tinkering with tactics, spotting what Clough perhaps didn’t, but the bottom line is that it was not his team.
