    Totally underwhelming!!!

Do we have any idea how to scout a striker?

    Smith or Woodrow.

I’d rather had gone for Langstaff for £700k

    Why?
Do you have information suggesting he’d be better after good spells in league 2 and conference?

I suspect Woodrow would have scored more than Langstaff down at that level. Smith would have banged in a hatful too.

It’s clear to me the club are after a striker that does more than just finish the moves off; they’re after a player who can bring people into play and be a focal point.

According to many on here Oxford don't have 1 player that we should be wanting in our team 😆

For fun let’s include the new keeper and Yates even though he’s banned - you’d take what Brannigan and their left winger from their starting XI and perhaps take Rodrigues and Harris for the bench + one of their CBs?

It isn’t about their personnel it’s about how they’ve been coached. They are greater than the sum of their parts. We are not.

Honestly reading stuff like "we're the worst team in the league" after one game is pretty embarrassing even by the standards of some of our fans. Absolute joke to be honest.

We're probably going to add about 4-5 more players at least and will have players like Ward, CBT and Yates back very soon.

2 seasons ago we came back for pre season with 5 players.

Getting out of league of league one after 2 seasons was a great achievement. Teams like Pompey, Ipswich, Sunderland etc were down there for a lot longer and had chance to properly build.

Of course it's going to be difficult. But we've played one game (we lost the first two last season and went up) and I saw more than enough yesterday to know that with a few additions we will be fine

I don’t think people should be writing us off after one match or calling for extreme decisions 1 match in.

    2 points though:

    1) Having watched the two teams who came up with us adjust considerably better despite still wanting to bring in more transfers themselves we are allowed to be concerned especially after how badly pre season went for us.

    2) Is all criticism going to be met with ‘we were in admin and nearly didn’t exist’ from now until the end of time? When is it okay for us to just be disappointed with what we’ve seen without us being guilt tripped into being reminded about admin?

They set up well out of possession, work hard to close the spaces when they lose the ball, move it around quickly and efficiently and have Harris up front! We’re the polar opposite currently

They finished 15 points behind us last season. Over 46 games we were over 0.3 points per match better than them on average and that included their amazing start and our woeful start. We shouldn’t be polar opposite!

First game of the season and already the usual doom and gloom merchants are around.

We looked ok in spells last night and in others naive pretty much what I expected.

Shipping three and four goals at Blackburn has been fairly standard over the fifty odd years I have been watching us...not out favourite ground  so was not surprised.

However we do need more recruits but it takes time to build and by the sounds of things we need to pull a couple of rabbits out the hat in the loan market in the next two weeks.

I’d say watching Oxford against Norwich is making me feel a lot worse about this season than last night did.

They look so so much more competitive against a so called stronger opposition than we had to play.

I posted this in the Foitball thread earlier.

Is it just me looking on a little jealously at Oxford and Pompey’s line-ups today? We look to have by far the weakest recruitment of the 3 promoted sides so far. Let’s hope we come good on deals in the final 3 weeks of the window.

Hopefully mods will merge them if needs be 👍🏻

My assessment not that it’s worth anything…

We know we need new keeper, full back , centre back , winger and striker…

Those on the fringes or who struggled last season such as Vickers , Elder , Barks , Fornah sadly won’t be good enough in a weak squad , although I thought Barks did ok - I like them all but it’s just the reality

We got sliced apart a number of times last season , ala Lincoln , Shrews , but thankfully L1 teams can’t finish , this year you get punished.

We need to learn to make tactical fouls higher up the pitch to stop goals on the break , this was a problem last season , so will be even more now…

We probably need to play 5 or 6 at the back away from home to scrape some points on the board…

We need to refind home form we have had in the past otherwise we are in doodoo

On a positive we won the singing match 37-1 . Blackburn fans are a disgrace, empty seats everywhere and you could just about hear them at 4-1

Well done Rams fans, showing the world that 99.9% of football fans are normal people who don’t have a problem with anyone despite what some people label and scaremonger us as…

Fornah impressed again in his small cameo… looked confident on the ball and played it forwards with purpose rather than aimlessly. Carried on with his good cameos during pre season.

Think he’s played himself into being an option for us if he’s willing to be a squad player.

My biggest concern is how loose and easy to play against we looked a halve arsed press at times and far to much space in midfield and the edge of our box we need to sort this before Saturday against a better side in Boro.

This was my biggest gripe last season in that we never looked like we’d been coached how to press. What triggers to wait for and how to strategically do it without leaving acres of space free with an opposition player in it. Pressing needs to be well coached, it isn’t a case of just running at the player who’s got the ball quickly.

Really not willing to get into an argument with some of the clowns who only seem to pipe up when we're doing badly so I'm just going to drop a fact that is a fact and not negotiable

We set up today to play attacking football, and didn't try to grind out a result. We committed men forward to try and score goals and as a result conceded 4. This was the case from minute one right until the end.

    No further questions

That isn’t a fact. We scored from 2 set pieces and we were undone by horrendous defending. They didn’t cut us open with high speed counter attacks our defence just decided to ball watch instead of marking their men.

  10. From the tightest defence in league 1 tonight has been woeful. Individual and structural errors have been abysmal.

Cashin again easily turned. He’s been s****. I know it’s harsh but he’s meant to be our best player. The only one with prem interest.

One very good pass forward into midfield….but I wouldn’t disagree with anything you’ve said 👍

It was technically a sideways pass but their midfielder made a really brilliant forwards run that wasn’t matched to use that sideways pass to break forwards into our half unopposed.
