You might do if you accept that year one was a difficult year for all concerned and if year two some element of improvement (in terms of outcome) was achieved despite some challenges still remaining. if that someone only narrowly failed to hit their key objective (if that’s how it pans out) and you had believe that, with any challenges further reduced, they may achieve their objective in year three.

Now that play offs as a minimum is guaranteed, I am convinced that DC will stick with PW. Let’s hope we get promoted and DC’s faith isn’t put to the test.

I think that due to having one of the highest wage bills in the league last season needed us finishing in the play offs. I think losing in the play offs would have been acceptable. It’s the nature of the drop off that concerned me last year.

  2. Im hoping that Clowes has his business head on because it’s clear he’s a huge personal admirer of Warne.

Promotion = job done and par for our wage bill. Warne (whatever you think of him and I’m very critical) deserves to try and hit par next season too.

No promotion = a second season below par. Would you keep someone in your business that wasn’t maximising the resources at their disposal?

Maybe playing was the wrong term from me, but they won 2-0. We play like poo and have to settle for 0-0.

I can’t see us putting Leyton Orient to the sword. Think we might batter Carlisle but that could be a dead match if we don’t buck our ideas up.

They have Collins scoring that sitter that CBT missed tbf.

Im angry that our players have fluffed easy chances that have led to this. I’d be pointing squarely at Warne had we not have created enough chances to win both the two disappointing games recently.

Warne for his many faults has put together a team that has made it into the top 2 with 4 left to go and yet glaring misses in the Northampton and Wycombe games mean we are 5 points worse off than we should be and are now fighting for our lives to stay in the autos.

We can argue the toss of how bad the football has been but we’d be just going over old ground and I’m sure we both see things similarly in terms of the football on show.

  4. Still think we go up automatically because I still think we’ll finish on 92 points.

If 92 points isn’t good enough for second then we accept we’ve been a little bit unfortunate and try and go again in the play offs.

I was so angry at the performance levels last night in the second half but I’m hoping for a post-Barnsley or post- Charlton reaction that sees us over the line.

Our main issue is that Bolton and Peterborough are playing like teams who deserve to go up. Before people point out posh’s shock result against Carlisle, I’m referring to how many goals they’re scoring.

We seem unable to score more than 1 (minus Pompey) in recent weeks. We’re really making hard work of it. Are we running on empty?

If we win our last 3 we’d be unlucky to miss out on 92 points but as things stand our momentum has somewhat stalled.

Bolton played sh*te against Rovers on Saturday. They looked second best. I sat through it because derby weren’t playing.

No the first part of my post, if you care to recall, was that we gained a goalless away draw tonight.

I said nothing about our performance yada yada.

If you want to twist this to fit your own narrative then fill your boots.

“Teddies flying out of prams all over the forum”

You also didn’t answer about whether you’d watched it. If I’d seen the result I’d probably think ‘solid away point. 3 home wins should do it’. But having watched it I was deflated.

    Which was exactly my comment

No your comment was to have a pop at people making negative comments. The only reason I mentioned the bit you quoted was to make the point that I didn’t expect us to go 12 points out of 12 so it isn’t a knee jerk reaction to drawing.

That performance (second half) is up there with the worst of the season. We were a million times better against Northampton than we were in the second half tonight.

Some predictably reactionary comments after a goalless away draw.

If we'd have got beaten jeez, doesn't even bear worth thinking about. Teddies flying out of prams all over the forum.

    Did you watch it?

People aren’t angry at the result. They’re angry at watching an absolutely awful performance when we need players standing up and being counted.

I had us down for 10 points out of our last 4 so the draw is no odds but I can’t see how a team in second with 3 matches left can be outplayed so easily in the second half. Especially when we’ve had a week on the training ground and more legs.

I’m not watching. The xG says

    Wycombe 0.21 - 1.39 Derby

Shots actually has Wycombe ahead by 6-5.

Did we miss a sitter or two?

Open net from within 6 yard box + NML hit over from a 1v1 in a chance he was snapping up earlier on this season

There is a very stark and real difference between being able to forge a career in the Championship and being an impactful player in the Championship. A LOT of fairly unremarkable players have made careers in the Championship, so I actually don't have too many worries about a lot of our players' ability to hold their own at the next level.

In terms of impactful players at the Championship, well that's a very different story. I would be confident in Mendez-Laing and Cashin. If Nelson was an import from overseas, who had never played in the Championship, then I would also say him. I do worry that he's been unremarkable in the Championship, largely, so would consider it unlikely he's going to carry the same impact at the next level. Adams, too, has found it tough by all accounts. He's in a similar boat to Nelson in the sense he's been very good for us at this level but has struggled to make the step up. I guess you could also put Nyambe in this category too, albeit he has previously done very well at Championship level with Blackburn.

Blackett-Taylor is starting to show his ability and looks to have good speed, range and technical ability that should serve him well at the next level. He does seem to lack the power of a NML but he has potential to be impactful at the next level if he progresses. Wilson, Sibley are probably more along the lines of being able to play in the Championship, perhaps struggle to be as impactful.

I do worry about Waghorn, Collins, Smith, Bradley and I'd probably add Elder to the list as players who I think would actually struggle to step up. All of them look to be on the down-swing of their career, in-terms of mobility, Collins has done well for us this season but I think a better class of defender really limits his impact. Waghorn started the season well, but looks laboured since his return from injury. Elder and Bradley just haven't looked right since we signed them, honestly, both have had moments but big question marks over them two - as well as Smith.

If we do get promoted, the recruitment is going to have to be very strong. Central midfield and strikers, in particular, will need to be improved upon enormously.

I think if we could get him fit for a while that Elder could finally be the heir to Forsyth. Think that he looks very good on the ball and very steady when he actually pieced together a few appearances.
He was always going to look shaky dipping in and out of the team due to injuries but he was in team of the year last time he was at this level.

I don’t believe that young players who are the best in their position in league 1 wouldn’t be able to step up well.

Agree with what you say about us having a lot of ‘decent championship pros’ already and needing to add real quality for those we bring in to make the difference.

Adams won't be signing, Warne has pretty much said that.

Wildsmith is not signing a new contract (at the moment)

Cashin will be sold 100% to make funds for incoming players.

My picks for champ would be

CBT, Nelson, Ward, Wilson, Sibley, Nyambe, Elder, Thommo, NML.

    Picks for Prem....errrmmm. No one

If Adams isn’t signing then he must have one hell of a set of midfield transfer targets for this summer.

Quite exciting to think about it that way… softens the blow.
