May Contain Nuts reacted to kash_a_ram_a_ding_dong in Is this the most depressing period you’ve experienced as a Derby fan?
For soul destroying misery and complete disappointment it has to be the 2014 play off final.
We were the best team in the league once Mac took over and the team was almost the perfect championship mix.
A devastating number 9,totally committed wingers and a sublime midfield all backed up by a solid defence.
Still makes my heart hurt thinking about it.
Where we could have been now if we had won....certainly in a far better place.

Because they talk about his more recent past - interrupted as lots of things were - by covid lockdowns. The manager at his Swedish club rated him as a person and player. Chris Wilder signed him and also rated him but didn't play a system that suited him, apparently.
Anyway it was enough to convince me, with the things Rooney said, that he deserves a chance. The rewards might be comparatively great for us! We are were we are and if players want to come and play and hopefully do well then we should be grateful!

Can't really figure out why they're embracing modern technology by going cashless whilst at the same insisting upon people printing out their tickets like it's still 2002 and we spend our spare time sitting in internet cafes or the local library.
(...or like it's 2019 and we're all sat in offices and can use the company paper/ink supplies)
Bloody pain in the arse having to go begging to use someone's printer.

Can't say I agree with that, I think he's always looked like a carbon copy of Keogh but with the bad bits emphasised! An all-action, last-ditch, disaster zone of a defender.
They're basically the same player, playing them together was a comically bad decision.

See Tomori was a different case in my mind. Tomori was raw when he first came in and made a lot mistakes but he clearly was great on the ball and extraordinary recovery ability both of which where there from day one. Put simply Tomori was doing things he shouldn't be doing but making up for it by doing things he shouldn't be able to do. I just don't see that with Mengi who looked ok in between mistakes but only ok.
Like I said before though I'll concede that there is likely something I'm missing with him and would take him back for another season under the expectation that he will likely progress fairly rapidly.

Try not to worry too much B4, have a look at @Ghost of Clough's post on our academy thread - we played a very inexperienced team and ended with some very young boys (some of them are half of your age and even younger!) against players who are much more physically developed, and much more experienced, players who would not think twice about kicking our players up the bottom and sending them flying through the air or trying to intimidate our players to gain an advantage.
Try to remember last season and that a lot of our kids should not be judged negatively because they struggled against Chorley  -  they should be be judged positively because how well they played against the youth teams of Manchester United, Manchester City and other big clubs last season.
It doesn't matter which league our first teams play in, men Vs boys will always be a mismatch and the men will usually win.
You're a big fan of Sibley and Knight and think they are worth at least £10m each, but even if they had played earlier today it is likely that  they would still have been on the losing side.
Some of the young players you have watched today could be players you value at £10m in 2 years.
Nobody needs to tell you to keep the faith in our lads B4, but please don't concentrate on today's game, our academy will face far more suitable opposition in the next year and I'm certain you'll see us win a lot of games.

There's unfair and there's unethical. Jettisoning academy players because of the circumstances we face would fall squarely into the latter, it's a non-starter.

People go to nightclubs to have fun? ducking hell!
I get that people go to a nightclub in the hopes of finding someone to have fun with later on in the evening, but fun in the nightclub itself (excluding occasional moments of fun in a toilet cubicle)?
Personally I'd rase them all to the ground and imprison anyone who thinks of them as an enjoyable place to be for their crimes against taste, then we wouldn't have this problem with vaccine passports to contend with.

My understanding is yes - There is a term called 'out of registration' mentioned on the EFL website but I think that is for players who have been formally released - Davies and Wisdom haven't had their registration released (I don't think)
Oh yeh I get that - But I think (reading loosely around the contract vs registration thing) Davies and Wisdom wouldn't count as new registrations...

I think the theory is that the guys that played against Chorley had not reached professional standard and were thrown in to meet the fixture.  I think that is a valid stance but it doesn't mean they never will.  Quite clearly if they had played in subsequent games that is a whole different issue.  The club isn't playing fast and loose with the rules and that should be clear even to the EFL
