I too named my eldest son after Charlie George but drew the line at adding George as a middle name, thought it a bit too much (well, the wife did).

I wasn't going to say anything about the match as I am so late to the witch-hunt, having not had much of a phone signal in my little Devon hideaway.
But I do think there's been some unnecessary hysteria on here over this result, mostly from people who only viewed it on TV and are therefore heavily influenced by the one-eyed narrative on ITV.
Due to the heavy rain the day before and that morning, the pitch was in a shocking state, the players warmed up in the corner in front of us and were slipping all over the place. It churned up the very corner of the pitch where Mendez-Laing makes his runs. His first run after kick-off you could hear the squish squelch with every step. I'm surprised he kept his boots on!
The wind was swirling on and off as the showers rolled in, it was so difficult to predict, which is why Wildsmith wasn't making the halfway line with one kick to be promptly followed by a hoof into touch. He was also being abused by two of our own brain-dead fans.
People said Collins wasn't doing his job  of holding the ball, but he was being bear-hugged by their centre half all game. Likewise Dobbin and Osula, who nearly lost his shirt to a player on one occasion with no foul given. Funny how the ref missed all those but managed to 'see' Cashin's tug from fully thirty yards away and not even realising which player had committed the offence.
I thought the Torquay crowd were fantastic, noisy and belligerent,  they definitely influenced the referee to give everything their way.
Yet despite all that, I thought we'd been clinical enough to win the game until Cashin's unfortunate lapse of judgement. For those laying into him and suddenly calling him out as a bad player, he is in the League One team of the season, has barely put a foot wrong and has shown a responsibility for results that many senior players could learn from. There'll be no-one feeling worse about what he did than Cash himself.
The weather was at its worst after the sending off. The rain and wind were relentless, Warne took off our strongest player (no doubt thinking of tomorrow night) and didn't immediately strengthen our defensive midfield. I'm not sure it would have mattered anyway with the aerial onslaught that followed. When he did decide to act he brought on ball playing Hourihane and ratter Tommo over the head it and kick it style of Rooney - not his most astute substitutions, imo.
Even then we looked like we'd held on for the win until right at the death when the ref miraculously found that extra few seconds to allow them to create one last chance for their fairytale draw. Not good for a beleaguered Derby County squad but another win for the TV narrative.
I thought our lads on that pitch were warriors on Sunday, and applauded every last one of them off the pitch. The invasion just before the finish was scary and the Torquay fan who squared up to Roberts right in front of us wants banning for life. Instead the BBC were putting out tweets celebrating the magic of the cup sparking pitch invasions with laughing emojis.
There is some bloody hypocrisy in football and I don't have to buy into it. You can choose for yourselves.

There is zero chance of choosing an England game over Derby for me regardless of our performances and form. We could be bottom of the league and England could be playing in the final but I’d still rather watch Derby.

I’ll watch an England game if it’s on free to view TV and I don’t have anything else to do but I don’t really get very excited anymore when the National Team is playing.

I couldn't watch any West MIdlands league team, I would have transferred to my local team, Solihull Moors who have been punching above the weight when competing with the ex league teams in the National League. It's a great local community club, being a 'home' to around 70 teams including my walking football team, unfortunately we've just lost, on pens, to a team of ex Forest pros in the Midlands final of the National Walking Football competition for the over 60s.
As regards to accents, the West Midlands has quite a variety, we're not all 'yam yams' or 'brummies', you know.

For me he is going to be the link that feeds Collins from the centre. AM or No 10 or withdrawn striker, call him what you like. He’s a key that unlocks doors, provides the final ball if you like. It’s what we are missing in my opinion, and have been for some time.

If I was to take a "moral" position, I'd say that in Derby's case the Unsecured Creditors should receive every penny that they are owed and HMRC should take less as a result. Why? Because if anyone can take a multi-million pound hit without going bust, or even blinking, it's the Treasury. Without getting political, Billions have been wasted during the pandemic alone and mobs haven't descended on Downing Street. The NHS and other public services aren't going short because Derby County didn't pay their bills, they're going short because the Government has decided to spend it elsewhere. If £35Bn doesn't outrage the taxpayer, why would £35m?
So come on HMRC, give some of what Mr Clowes is giving you to those creditors who may be left short. You know it makes sense ?

Tricky one for me. I've never quite seen what others seem to see. Yes I know all about the 'engine', but other than that? He doesn't really control midfield, doesn't really play killer passes, doesn't score big numbers, doesn't make too many killer runs. He's good at everything but not particularly brilliant at anything. I'm not sure he's improving much (or likely to) either.
I felt a bit like this with Hendrick - another very good young player who I wasn't that fussed about losing and whose post-Derby career went pretty much as I expected. Continued to do lots of things well and nothing brilliantly, became a squad player at lower Premier League level.
Obviously at League One level Knight would be a huge asset and I don't particularly want to lose him. But in our current circumstances he definitely has a price. He's not irreplaceable.

You’re so right. I love doing my match reports, a little because I like the sound of my own voice, but mostly it’s the sharing belonging to something bigger having a common goal. It was grim towards the end despite some good results and battling performances because there was this dark cloud and lead weight hanging on and over you, the joy went out of it.

Of course we want to be measuring ourselves against “big” teams but for me it’s always been about sport and level playing fields, the two strong men standing face to face, 11 v 11 .. the smell of the fried onions, the unbridled joy of ball back of net and my team.

I am filled with anticipation and delight. It’s a clean slate. We’re going to revel in it. New players, new hopes, new banter, new triumphs and disasters (small ones obviously ?)
Can we adapt Wardy’s save me song for DC ?

Good post apart from that mention of Kieran Maguire. He went out of his way to destroy us by picking on one minor accounting detail that the EFL had said was ok. The bloke is an utter Bamford of the highest order. He will be devastated that we have survived.

No one seems to be mentioning Eiran Cashin.
I believe he is out of contract but, AFAIK, has not been linked to anyone.
And no one on here is putting him alongside those we should sign up as quickly as possible.
To me he would be the first one that should be given the club pen and asked to sign above the dotted line.
    EDIT: Then Thompson

We have to offer Rosenior first refusal, he might not be the right long term option, however given the timing of all this we are left with little choice.
There will be a list of targets which he will have been involved with the discussion, likewise renewals with those that are expiring, a plan going forward and we have to stick to that as much as we can.
We don’t have the time to create a new owner vision for the future and conduct a thorough interview process.
Bring players in, give us a squad to compete and use this season to get appointments behind the scenes right and review the first team management next summer.
Oh and please, please please no Nigel Clough, it’s been a rough year as it is, a return of Nigel would destroy the remaining bits of my soul right now. Thankfully he hasn’t spoken that fondly of his time at Derby, I hope that grudge he has is as strong as ever.

Honestly, this is no great surprise and could work out best for all parties in the end. How many managers go out on top? 5% if that, most experience good days, but ultimately you’re only a month or so of bad games from the sack and abuse by fans.
This ends Rooney’s story with Derby perfectly. He was a rookie manager, who galvanised a squad and a club at the worst point in its history. He will always be appreciated with fans and now he’s got to go and prove himself at a club with expectations now. He’s still got it all to prove that he’s a good manager, despite the job he did here. This was a very unique challenge and one that very few managers will ever go through.
I genuinely wish him all the best!

I know nothing about Clowes and have no inside information.
My gut instinct tells me that Clowes, if he rescues the club, is doing so out of love and duty for the club, and not to massage his own ego or reputation.
I can get on board with him being a reluctant owner, a bit like someone becoming carer for a poorly relative and if it goes through and he owns the club, I hope sincerely that the toxic element of our 'fan' base either stay away or grow up.
I very much doubt the EFL would allow us to anyway, but I also instinctively feel that this is more about saving the club than splashing out on players and chasing a dream.
The club/team COULD find inspiration from any feel good factor from the terraces, so I hope that the fans give it.

it's a moot point in my mind as this will be over today, but I fail to see anyone's logic in backing MA. If he doesn't satisfy the creditors sufficiently, and the EFL, we have a points deductions and a soft-embargo! We lose any asset we have in terms of staff and player, and we get relegated. Anyone in here using the mindset that fans "pay the wages" and should demand respect from any owner, get a grip, you'll get nothing from MA! If you think communications are vital and your mental health has been affected by lack of updates in recent months, do NOT expect anything from MA and his team.
Whilst CK is an unknown factor in terms of how he may or may not succeed as owner, we know how bad MA has been.
Also note that MA never had to rebuild Newcastle when he bought them, he actually got them relegated!

silhillian reacted to Ambitious in Wayne Rooney
I was no Rooney fan when he became manager, really struggled with what we produced last season and felt that he got the job based on an owner who was checked out and needed the PR boost to sell the club. The whole thing stunk and before the season I had us down, that's prior to the knowledge of any point deductions or transfer embargos and everything else we've suffered.
I would've been wrong, even with the transfer embargo, plus his conduct has been nothing but exceptional. He's brought players on, development players at an extremely high rate and managed to build an environment for players to develop correctly in an environment no player should ever have to play in. I don't think you can give him enough credit for that, honestly, especially when you look at the squad we have.
Now, providing a takeover happens, I only want him here if we are giving him the tools to succeed. If we aren't in a position to do that then I hope he finds a good job for him to thrive. He's earned that much.
Regardless of what happens, I just wish him well. I'd love to see him go to the very top!
