  1. Is anyone else leaning towards the idea that any injury Collins has, isn't that serious, could even be on the bench today with an injection ready to go if needed?

As a journalist going into a pre match press conference knowing the only fit senior striker was due in for a scan on his knee, knowing that, would that not be the first question you would ask?

Looking over on X, both Dom (Radio Derby) and Leigh (DET) have put nothing out there, the last thing said on the 15th is.....

29 hours later all we get is.....

If he's touch and go for today, would make sense to stay quiet on it, leave that doubt a question for Stevenage to ponder over in their pre match preparations.

If it was serious in that we're expecting him to miss 3, 4, 6 weeks, no real point in delaying the news.

I'd stick a cheeky fiver on him being sat on the bench today.

1 basic rule for posting on this thread now and in future:

Foresight is unwelcome, and hindsight will be dismissed.

    (Or is that 2 rules?)

Not a rule, you only have to come on here at 2pm to know how wildly unpredictable foresight can be.

Nothing inherently wrong with saying Warne won’t keep us up either if that’s the opinion, just feels a bit off when it’s put out there almost fact like and DC/SP are too stupid not to see it.

Something that isn’t taken into consideration whilst rubbing the crystal ball is momentum. We finish the remaining games unbeaten, and we have that nobody can beat us feeling going into the season that can be huge.

When Blackpool were promoted to the Premier League, it wasn’t a tactical masterclass, nor was it a squad full of ability. They had the belief and that squad mentality, as did we under Billy Davies.

  3. We need to get promoted first and foremost. Before then, any talk of Championship stability or Premier League is premature.

Every single football club will have it’s own short and long term plans, not only that, managers will have their own career succession plan which won’t always be openly shared for obvious reasons.

Personally, as a fan, I don’t put much weight into these plans, they sound great, however only 3 teams go up, 3 go down each season. (4 in League 1). I just look for progress. Progress for me is League table pure and simple.

Others will have their own metrics, however ultimately the league table shows progress. We’ve made progress.

If we finish 3rd, lose in the play off final, it’s still progress. Although the bar has been raised for next season where if promotion isn’t achieved, would be difficult for Warne to continue.

On a side note, it can’t be forgotten what state this club was in just a couple years ago when Rooney left. We have made incredible progress.

History, attendances, facilities don’t count for much if you don’t have a team.

    Not really.

Some players you'd only sign in League One, some only in the Championship and some in both.

Perhaps just give us a list of topics we are allowed to discuss.

    Yes really.

It's not even March, we could go on to lose the next 10, slide down outside the top 6, Warne sacked and looking at an entirely different style of football. So much football to be played, contracts to be offered both at Derby and other clubs to even know where to start.

Been just 2 weeks since the last window closed.

It's like watching toddlers on Christmas Day morning, ripping open a toy, looking at it for 30 seconds before scrambling for the next.

It's like the Mrs asking me tonight what would I like for dinner on the 7th March.

Even Fabrizio Romano the celebrity ITK bloke on Twitter/X has taken a break from linking players to clubs, now focusing on injuries, stats and that to show he's still alive.

Go for it though, knock yourself out writing lists of players if it makes you happy.

I was being facetious. But even Elon’s goal is more realistic than hoping the world’s leaders will ever come together and do something useful for humanity. We’re basically just waiting for crack pot billionaires to make ‘saving the world’ their latest project.

But of course a lot of them became crackpot billionaires by burning the world in the first place. So we might be waiting a while.

I think it terms of realistic goals, both would be on par, along with myself bagging a date with Cheryl Cole.

I'm with you on that he can spend his money how he likes, I see him as someone that has a lot of "nerd" in him and the money to attempt to bring science fiction to reality, fair play.

Boys with toys on a much grander scale, his Boring company bringing out things like flamethrowers, all points towards that theory.

@Birdyabroad as the topic creator, would you be happy for me to close this topic, moving forward with a topic simply called “Paul Warne”.

We’re seeing similar posts depending on the result in both. A singular place to discuss the manager under a neutral title.

The same question will be asked in the alternative threads.

With the 2 alternative topic creators in agreement, I have decided to go ahead now anyway.

  7. I'll be the boring one and reply just as I would to B4.

Is this not a little too early and should we not wait until we know what division we are in next year?

The difference between building a Championship team and League 1 team are huge. The loan opportunities are vastly superior for the Premier League youth talent.

Not only that but we need to see what we have left in the cupboard before we go shopping.

This is a perfect topic to bridge the gap between the end of the season and the Euros.

At what point is the league a fair indicator? Do we have to wait until the last game has been played?

10 games in, Port Vale were 6th bit now they're 4th bottom. After 20 games, Reading were bottom 4, but would now be 14th without a points deduction. Leyton Orient have shot up from 16th to 9th in the same period of time.

Every week. Clubs dip in and out of form, move up and down the table. Ultimately come May the teams over the season are ranked 1 to 24 where they deserve to be.

But, what if you can't watch all 552 League 1 games to make a fair judgement? How do you compare how you're doing with other teams?

The league table is a good indicator of how teams are doing.

Football isn’t overly complex, stick the ball in the net more than the other team and you get 3 points.

Not sure how else you can actually compare, seen other comments in this topic about what teams “deserve” to justify the xG argument, it’s all the same, ignoring the basic rules of the game which is based on actual goals.

  12. 24 minutes ago, Ghost of Clough said:

xG is a useful tool if used correctly. Give Chris Martin and Connor Sammon exactly the same chance and they'll have the same xG, but one of them will be more liekly to score as he's a better finisher. Unsurprisingly, the teams who create a high proportion of chances for their best finishers also outperform their xG as a team, whilst the team creating chances for poorer finishers underperform.

xG is a better metric than shots as it gives meaning to the shot - the chance of scoring from 1 yard out will be significantly greater than 40 yards out.

With football though, it’s not like snooker where you can line the balls up and have 2 players take the same shot.

xG fails to take into account the ability of the opposition defenders and keeper.

It fails to take into account weather conditions.

It fails to take into account the current situation in so many way, home, away, comfortable lead, behind, fitness level, carrying knocks.

If it was a game played between robots in an indoor arena I could see the value.

Comparing it to shots as a metric is nonsensical, shots and shots on target are facts. Indisputable facts.

Nothing more than a stat that with possession gives you a rough idea as to how the game as gone.

Never really see anyone give it much value as you see others try and give xG.

Just watch the game. You will know how it’s gone and who played better, who created the better chances to win the game and who’s finishing or mistakes let them down.
