I refused to go in the Pink Coconut when they were charging 50p a pint when it was 22p in the local

Never mind the cost of a pint. What about the cost of the Babychams I had to buy the young lady, in the hope of a pleasurable end to the night. Paid out for three bottles of the stuff, cost an arm and leg.

Found out some years later the wife would have been happy with a couple of halves of cider.

  2. Myself. Wouldn't mind living in the lap of luxury and travelling round the world for a few years.

I could even cope with being followed around by the gutter press and all the rumours involving me with various actresses.

While making a few quid in bribes. No no not bribes, I mean contributions from lobbyists, like all those senior politician, who are supposedly running the country.

Then after a few years of diligently serving my country. I'd get a seat on the board of some company in the city and get paid an obscene amount of money for a few hours work each year.

Yep certainly take that position if it was offered.

  3. Regarding the difference in the finances between the top and lower league clubs, there was an interesting article in the paper today.

The Bradford City CEO, talked about the impact the energy cost could have on lower teams. To help keep down their electricity bills, he said that clubs may have to move the kick-off times, to reduce the amount of time they would need to use their floodlights.

His he just crying wolf or could we soon be regularly attending matches with a 12.00 or earlier kick-off?

If the cost of electricity raises as predicted, could some clubs lose money when playing midweek games?

Yeah, right on Comrade. You indirectly keep funding the rag you despise.

    Lmao Lol GIF

Well hello comrade, never had you down has a member of the party. Don't worry about the cost of gaining access to what the right-wing are thinking.

It all comes free, direct from Putin's information department. They should be listening in on whats being said in the cabinet office. But while they wait around for anything of importance to be said, they pass the time hacking into all the British media.

You don't have to go on to their web site to see some of their articles. But if a few pennys go into their coffers, I can live with that. It's a small price to pay, to understand an opponent's mindset.

I feel very sad. For me, it feels like a part of my British identity has now departed. I am a royalist I guess, you can become very political about what is the point of the monarchy, why do we pay for them. For me, it's what they represent and provide back to society. There are so many aristocratic families in this country who sit around and offer nothing in return. The Queen gave everything she had, as a privileged person, back to the common folk. A constant and supportive figure throughout her life.

This icon wasn't born to become Queen. When she was a child, she thought she would have a fairly normal life and dreams of her own. That all changed. She then devoted her life to service, never retired and never complained once, after all the hardship the country has endured. Even when her own family tried to tear itself apart, she held onto the fragile foundations and tried to build bridges. Even recently when she looked so ill and fragile, she did her upmost to attend and carry out her duties. What a hero.

I don't feel this country will ever be the same without her. The end of an era. RIP ma'am.

Of cause things will never be the same. Over her lifetime Queen Elizabeth had met more British prime ministers, US presidents, probably more heads of state from other countries around the world than anyone else alive or dead. So she brought with her that history and knowledge when she met a present head of state.

Listen to what many present and former world leaders have to say about her. They speak of her knowledge of world events, the connection she had with their country. They also speak of the real and genuine respect they had for her.

Our new King hasn't got his mother's history and knowledge. So things are bound to be different, and impact on how he is perceived by other countries and their leaders . How that difference will impact on us as a nation, we can only wait and see.

We can only hope that he serves the people of our country with the same dignity and dedication shown by his mother.

  7. There appears to be a lot of negativity and unhappiness with how the covid pandemic, the ensuing lockdown, the implementation of the furlough scheme was dealt with.

But didn't Johnson get all the big calls right. Well thats what every tory mp and right-wing media outlet kept telling us. It was only this week that Liz Truss our new PM told us again how Johnson got all the big calls right.

As for the energy crisis, it was probably best that he'd gave up doing his job and went on a couple of holidays and didn't make any big calls. God knows what poo we'd be in now.

There again his replacement, appears to have the same ability when it comes to making the big calls

  8. As a life long socialist, people assume I wouldn't want a monarchy. But I've always appreciated what the the Queen did for our nation. She was a true figurehead that brought to the country that sense of nationalism and respect from other nations round the world. More than some of our politicians have managed to do

Would I want us to become a republic, with the ability to vote for a president every few years? No thank you. I'll just point across the pond and the disaster that trump presided over and the on going turmoil he is responsible for.

No I'll stick with what we've got as long as the privileged family that provides us with our head of state, can carry on with honour and dedication shown by our late Queen.

I'm pleased if you and your daughter are working effectively, although I worry for the younger generation of workers, alone in their bedrooms, with no one to bond with or ask how something works or how to do things.

Wokists scoff at the Mail when it is the most read newspaper in the UK so gets more right than it gets wrong. Sadly from personal experience, most people you call post-covid are in their bedrooms completely incapable of sorting any problem out.

The one good thing about the cost of lockdown crisis we're now experiencing is that everyone will finally be rushing back into the office once they see how much their fuel bills are going up.

The Daily Mail is the most wokist publications in circulation. Here I'm using the derogatory connotations the right wing media have given to woke and not the the original meaning of the word.

    Hey buddy she capped £2500

But still hell of money to find

Isn't the figure being quoted based on the amount of an average family's usage? So I hope people aren't expecting to pay no more than £2500. Use more energy than an average family then be ready to get a bigger bill to pay for.

  11. Everyone happy with the way Truss and her government have decided to deal with the energy crisis?

Or should they also have gone with a windfall tax on the energy companies

She claims it would be wrong to put an extra tax on these companies. As they need these profits, to enable them to invest in future energy needs of our country

I'm sure these companies will have already plan their future investments for years to come, on how much and where they will spend it. So that any extra profits they now make will go straight into the shareholders' pockets with no additional money spent on investments, than that already planned for.

Anyone getting excited or just encourages by Liz Truss' proposal to lift the moritorium on fracking should bear in mind what the now Chancellor of the Exchequer, then Business and Environment Secretary, Kwasi Kwarteng, wrote in an article for the Mail on Sunday back in February :

The risks to the environment are potentially serious, while the benefits, by the Government's own assessment, are negligible, as I've stated previously. So, really, what's the point, other than a profit-making opportunity for the frackers?

I'm I missing something here, is this a tory minister actually talking sense. Or could it just be that he and the rest of his colleagues have no financial interest in a fracking company, so isn't pushing for fracking sites to be opened.

  13. So we're back at the old argument, of how do you equate what constitutes a football club being thought of as being a bigger club than another club.

Is it purely down to where a club presently sits in the league?

Their record of achievements and do we use what the club as achieved over the last 5,10,20,50 years or their entire history?

Should it be determined on how big their fan base is? The size of their stadium?

For my sins my perspective on the size of a club is probably partially coloured by where they were during the first few years that I started taking an interest in football.

Why not? Coopers reputation is going to take a massive hit when his disjointed squad of nobodies gets relegated at a canter. Brighton has better facilities, better players, will likely pay him more, a better stadium and better attendances.

Forest are a smaller team than Brighton as it currently stands. Forest winning a couple of European cups half a century ago isn't going to keep him there.

But can the Brighton owners guarantee that his holiday home in Greece won't be fire bombed.

  15. When the fixture list came out, I noticed that the away games against Bristol Rovers and Exeter were within a few days of each other, thought it would be a good opportunity to have a short break down there. With how ticket allocations are going, I may have got a tickets for the midweek game at Exeter. But not being an away member, it's very unlikely I'd be able to get tickets for the Bristol game.

Oh well, will now have to be satisfied with a short break in London, when we play at Wembley in the pizza cup. Hopefully there'll be enough tickets for this game, to reach the general sale category.

  16. On the match ratings thread. I scored most of the players a six. Which is what we were bang average. I don't know if Plymouth's performance  was was their bang average performance or if they'd up their game but it was certainly better than ours.  If it hadn't been for a good save by Wildsmith and a great block by Knight it could easily have been two all at half-time.

Against other teams we may have got away with a two nil win. But if we want to push for promotion, I don't think bang average will be good enough to beat many teams in this league.
