I think for me the worry isn't the players or the time they will take to gel. It's the way they're being asked to play. A lot of the frustrating things from the last few years are very evident in this newly assembled squad already.
The insistence on playing out from the back, the daft goal kick, allowing teams to reshape before we go on the attack, only taking risks in our own half, playing without midfield runners leading to an isolated front man, conservativism in our play right to the last minute...to name just a few.
I'll back the team and I wish Liam all the luck in the world, but I hope this isn't the plan.

Ooo, that’s a tough one. Does it have to be just one of them? Can I be greedy and hope both happen?

Agree.
I think if knighty becomes available in midfield its one of those two plus knight ahead of bird

We played well and thought we deserved the win.
Also, that last 20 minutes will have done us more good than harm.
Let’s go and follow that up with a win on Tuesday away from home. We can go from strength to strength but we need to do it as a club, players and supporters.

I honestly think thats meant to be smiths job.. cos im not sure his skillset offers much else as his career history suggests
i think and am hoping its a case of fitness and getting match sharp
i think we will get stronger in time

Im not saying he isnt
but hes a grafter.. a link player, a water carrier and trust me as someone who played this role for 10-15 years im Not understating its importance
hes not a goalscorer , hes not really a creator but hes what every successful side needs
i think he will get better, sharper and fitter with time but im not expecting anything more of him than what he is

Take it move on and get another weeks training into their legs
really think we got to get knighty into midfield
getting the celebratory ciders out

Right, well I guess it's time.
My vote goes to Bristol City who we replace in the Championship next season.

Going to attempt, once again, today to figure out if Barnsley are in fact the same club as Rotherham. Never in the same league, just swapping divisions yearly wearing basically the same kit from South Yorkshire. Rumour has it they’ve never played each other. The evidence is damning.

I'd much rather we signed a young, hungry, goalscorer than an old, well-fed, non-goalscorer.....it's s big no from me...

He needs a player a lot closer to him, iv said it a million times but two holding midfielders is overkill and limits attacking options
bird … and previous holding mids before him at this club look twice the player when theres two runners (think bryson and hendrick) to play off or look for than having a second body sat alongside them.
two deep just encourages side to side pointless passing with little penetration and more importantly options ahead or bodies arriving in the box.
i think we’ll look a lot lot better if we can get knight in midfield perhaps with CH in a two ahead of bird
Theres a time and a place for a two but when ur dominating the opposition like we can at this level we can allow ourselves to be a little more expansive imo

I've said it before, but I'm still not convinced with a 4 2 3 1 formation. There are 7 defensive players on the pitch and we struggled under cocu, Rooney for goals.
I think Collins needs a goal for his confidence then it will come for him. I wonder if two up top with Collins and mcgoldrick would work?

agree with all of that, just disappointing we couldnt take one.
we go again though and im sure things will click as we get sharper and fitter
hopefully getting knighty into mid will help too

You are right that if you don’t score goals, you will struggle.
But most teams don’t score goals because they don’t create chances. How often have we in the past few years created clear-cut chances like today? You refer to our recent history but are looking at it from just one angle.
We barely scored (away from home) in the past few years because we didn’t create. Not necessarily because we were poor at finishing. Today we were poor at finishing, nobody questions that.
If we continue to be wasteful like today, we will struggle. Nobody questions that.
But you can’t draw comparisons with recent years judged on one or two games with an entirely different set of players. NML, Collins, Barkhuizen, Korey Smith and Hourihane (our five most forward players) weren’t here last season.
And to finish the point, we created more chances today than probably any select 5 away games combined last season.
But you probably know this anyway.
