I think you hit at the core of why I think keeping Warne on board is going to hurt us long term and isn't the neutral option people often opine it to be.
You have to take a step back and realise how asymmetrical the footballing system is and how uneven the playing field is to succeed at the highest levels. A club like ours either needs a robust plan to overcome that sustainably as we will likely never be big enough or attract the kinds of backing to seriously compete. (And even if we do we risk the trajectory of what happened under MM).
Essentially we need something or a set of things we can do differently in order to level things out. And if you look at the success of clubs who have some degree of sustainability and not just relied on boom/bust investment they all have that element to them. I.e. Brentford, Southampton.
The one major advantage we have as a club is geographical in that we have quite a sizeable catchment area where we can realistically compete for talent at youth levels, talent that otherwise might be prohibitive to acquire after they've matured. But we need to plan with this in mind. We need to have strong development pathways from academy to first team with firm incentives about taking risks on bringing people through and giving them time.
It's what was so frustrating about last season to me. Last season was practically as free a hit as you get as a club. It was a season to get our ducks in a row and reset as a club. We should have been giving serious game time to developing academy players and recent academy graduates like Thompson. It was a season we could afford to take risks on players  This would have given us a solid foundation of a squad to work from that would improve over time. Instead we kick Thompson on loan and then find ourselves short of cover. Warne is clearly reluctant to trust academy players to the point where its actively detrimental. In a nothing game with a lead once again we were playing players past the point of exhaustion (some of which like bird who are coming off injuries) rather than giving someone game time.
It feeds into my feelings that as a manager he struggles to see beyond the surface level and struggles to see the bigger picture whether it's tactical, player fitness management or overall club development.

Its not just you.  Rooney was the right man at the right time in admin. His profile highlighted our plight at the right time and I admired him fighting for us when I had always disliked him previously.
But I never liked the way he and/or his team connived for him to take Cocu's job and it seems the same has happened at Birmingham as he's been linked for ages. Like you I didn't like how he just seemed to ditch us and scarper with a lame excuse to another job - Rosenior didnt and must have worked his butt off to get a team together. It made me always think Rosenior probably was behind much of it anyway that season. Perhaps I should have stuck to my initial opinion of WR!

Same planet as the one where his agent was going to have a place on Kirchner’s board, before he scarpered with his tail between his legs once Kirchner’s cash didn’t show, and ended up with a job at the club who coincidentally are being run by the CEO Kirchner was going to have at Derby.
    The whole thing stank.

    More fool them.
I thought he was a mediocre manager at best whose wages helped to drain the club's finances even further at a time we could ill afford to do so.
Plus I feel he was always instrumental in the removal of cocu and undermined him as the manager in his own desire for management.
And he will always be the man who was in charge when we were relegated to league 1.
A massive mistake by Birmingham that won't them take long to regret I fear.

Warne said in his interview last night that he had let the players know that they and the coaching staff need to improve if they want success. Why's he allowed to say it but the fans aren't?

Anyone else had enough of anyone criticising our performance being criticised for being told they aren't allowed to criticise, without a sense of irony.

Game should’ve been done at half time, criminal how many chances we missed, but not completely unsurprising considering the last few draws we’ve had where chances and goal scoring opportunities have been in great volume but the final touches haven’t.
Second half, you could see the players returning from injury really struggling late on and I felt Warne just wanted to run them into the ground to get minutes in their legs but from a performance point of view it I would hope changes would typically be made before it got to that point. Right before the penalty we may as well been playing walking football.
Great to see Sibs bag twice. He really need to be in games where we need a spark because we just don’t have it otherwise, most of our players are industrious, honest pros. Sibley is the only player in our team who has an edge about his game, for me, so I just don’t see any good reason why he doesn’t get a run of games. It seems like he has to score every game to even get an opportunity to keep his place. He’s started three games this season and has three goals. It does baffle me. I’m just going to try and enjoy watching him while I can because it’s obvious that Warne is happy to see him gone at the end of the season.

Will have one final whinge about the amount of just vitriol from the stands.

Teenagers still of school age just F’ing every other word. Bloke behind me wouldn’t stop calling the ball boys lazy C words.

Collins constantly referred to as a lazy txxt- I mean he misses chances but the last thing he can be described as is lazy!

It made a match I was looking forward to quite an unenjoyable experience.

‘you F’ing D*ck McGoldrick - someone kill him’ was another pearl of wisdom.

I know this is probably just me getting old but when I went to away games with my mates at that age it wasn’t like that. You’d give some of the old wrist shakin and middle fingers to the home support and sneak a beer in but it wasn’t a competition for how many times the C word could be used in a match.

They were ripped apart by the disciplinary commission in terms of their methodology for valuing the ground and comparing it to Morecombe and several Rugby League grounds.
Obviously it was more impressive when it was built but even now the capacity is higher than half the Premier League grounds.

Rams TV with a half time advert about male depression. I really like the idea of men opening up and discussing their mental health in a judgment free zone, with other men there to support them. Especially with some of the football we've had fo put up with this season.

Our squad is easily as good as the top 2 - how it is used is more pertinent. The composition seems very short term I agree. But when Warne makes comments about spending on JCH not  being the way to go and then you look at his choice of signings you have to wonder 🤔 His squad has players he wanted to sign for Rotherham and players he has signed for us. He has turned down the opportunity to pay fees, spending instead on wages.
If he chooses to ignore younger lower league players I'd say I'm not surprised, see how he treats our own young players. So while he was chasing Wilson last season - who is 23 - he looks nothing like the finished article. But Tommo had to go out on loan last season to get game time. Warne suggested it was to do with how he trained and not being ready, for me I see Wilson could be viewed in the same way yet he gets chosen. So finally Warne plays Tommo in he preferred role and he starts to look a player. Bird on Saturday, what on earth happened there!
There's lots of examples of Warne's ineptitude, it's not the squad however they are composed.

Haven’t seen the game yet, nor indeed the highlights package, but very disappointing that we didn’t have the wherewithal to beat a very poor team.
Also disappointing to listen to our manager say that he was concerned about being overloaded by Cheltenham’s midfield, and his clear instructions were to bypass a midfield battle and just get it out wide quickly to the wings.  We have Bird, Hourihane, Smith and Fornah. All good ball players. Surely, to god though those kind of players can be up to going head to head and winning against Cheltenham’s Rag, Tag and Bobtail. If our sole tactical aim is to hope NML gets a few crosses in and Collins heads it adequately, we are in for a continuation of what we have seen ever since Warne took over - chaotic, basketball type football, with points ultimately gained from such tactics only sufficient to end up around 6th or 7th position.

Might be expensive to buy Curtis out of his contract.
I'd be interested to see if Craig Short woud consider returning in some capacity. He's spent a lot of time at Derby over the last ten years and knows what a top class academy looks like. He's also doing well as first team coach of Oxford so I'd imagine has a good understanding of this division.

I think the point people are making about yesterday is that although we didn't do too badly playing the way we were set up, some of us feel we could have done so much better with a midfield three and playing football on the ground more.
    Cheltenham are poor.

That's an interesting point about geography. I've worked away from Derby for seven years or so and whilst I kept my season ticket it is a different experience. In all that time any colleagues who liked football either had a positive or neutral view of Derby County so the conversations were more generalised and didn't dwell on the last match.
Now that I'm back in Derby I pass the ground twice a day and there's a whole bundle of emotion related to that place from the Jim Smith years to the more recent ups and downs. When I speak to people about football it's mostly Derby fans wanting to have a moan about our reduced circumstances, current performances etc. or fans of local rivals who can't resist a wind up. So whilst I get being a little more detached I also can't help being quite angry with where Warne is taking us.
I don't see that Warne has the capacity to change or grow as a manager so whilst I think it's probable that we'll stumble upon a decent run of results at some point I think that will just delay the inevitable so we may as well change manager now.
