  1. I've not read your views of the game, but as an Exeter fan I was pleased with the way we played last night. I thought we took the game to you, we looked confident, passed the ball well and carved out some good opportunities to potentially score, without really looking like scoring very often (a few shots on target, hit the post once, but you defended really well and I don't think we 'deserved' to score many).

Overall, it looked to me like a good tactical game between two defensively strong sides who had set up well, just that one side scored 3 goals, pretty much against the run of play (certainly against the run of possession). In other words, it was a very clear 0-0 game if you exclude your goals 😉

I know a load of Derby fans and they've all been saying that you've been flattering to deceive this season, even when you've been winning. But I didn't see a team like that last night, I saw a solid team, great shape when out of possession and players who can hurt teams on the break (which you did). Despite all the stats, I thought you deserved your win. You made it very difficult for us to score and then delivered the goods when you had the chance, albeit your first goal was a good shot but also a bit of a fluke with the bounce it took, taking it over the keeper who had it covered. Oh well, them's the breaks, you make your own luck in football, if you don't buy a ticket you won't win the raffle, etc.

I thought your fans were quieter than last season when there weren't as many of you. Saw you bouncing occasionally and heard you after you scored, but strangely quiet in the second half even though you were 3-0 up, maybe it was the dominance of our possession that strangled your voices? We were quiet too, which is how I know you were quiet 😉

Also weird that you sold 1,350 tickets (I think) but only 1,100 of you turned up - what's that about?

Anyway, I took a small video clip of you lot from our bank opposite your end, but your website wouldn't let me load it up, said the file was too big. Good luck for the rest of the season, I hope you go up in the autos, this season's league is the poorest for a while, if you don't go up this year you'll regret it when you see who is coming down / up from the leagues above / below.

  2. Easy lads, didn’t think me wishing you all a safe journey would start an argument about our crowds 🤣

We haven’t sold out the away end much this season, certainly not the 1,300 or so you’ll be bringing (excellent but not unexpected support), but we have had some strong followings and Blackpool were superb by all accounts (I wasn’t there).

I accept the point about your keeper last season vs every away team to ever visit PP, but he took it to another level. I think it’s good to have an opposition player or two that you have a voodoo doll of anyway, makes the game more interesting.

I’ll be delighted with a draw.

  3. Morning all, hope you all have a safe trip down to our fair city but leave with your tails between your legs. I’m very much hoping for a win to avenge last season’s home game when you had that keeper made of paper, where any sort of draught blew him over. Not that I hold a grudge.

As some have already said, the away end is unallocated standing so you’ll be able to stand where you want. Hopefully you’ll play so badly you’ll want to face the back of the stand, but do as you will.

And if you’re wondering why we don’t sell alcohol in the ground, it’s because you have a big away following. The rules are that alcohol can’t be consumed within sight of the pitch and when we have an away following of more than 600, we can’t accommodate you behind the stand, meaning you’d have to spill over into the terrace and therefore be within sight of the pitch. Sorry about that.

The Red Square fan zone at the club is very welcoming, you’ll be able to walk round in your Derby colours if you want, there won’t be any trouble at all unless you start it, it’s a very friendly place and it would be fantastic to see you there. Plenty of food and beer (hog roast, chips, burgers, etc).

Safe travels to all, enjoy your evening but without taking any points back with you please.

  4. Well, what a shitshow that was from us. I don’t know what’s happened to us but we were awful from minute 1 to minute 95. I thought you looked like a side low on confidence but who actually played quite well, you pressed us well and had done your homework to know that’s all you need to do. The personality we showed at the start of the season has disappeared, we’re in real trouble and should have lost by more.

Was impressed with your fans, after Shrewsbury I thought you might have been more negative but the South Stand were positive throughout, lots of supportive chants. You were a bit quiet considering you were 2-0 up, but that’s understandable after recent results. I also thought the ref was excellent.

No bright spots for us City fans I’m afraid, other than Demi Mitchell who will leave in January no doubt. A mini-slump has quickly turned into a relegation battle and none of us can work out why. We’re capable of being much better than last night but you wouldn’t think that. Calling us poor, inept and crap is actually kind, we were worse than that.

Anyway, good luck for the season, hope you go up. Despite singing ‘How s*** must you be, you’re still in league one’ last night, I hope you get promoted, your club is better than this.

Expecting to hear Sing a song for Stanno when you are 3-0 down. To be serious I’m expecting a 0-0 bore draw, Caldwell sacked, Matt Taylor sacked at Rotherham and back to City, Warne to Rotherham and John Eustace to Derby.

You’ll hear it whatever the score mate. Plus there’s no way Caldwell will be sacked, even if we lose heavily tonight, it was only a month or so ago that we were top of the league and scared we’d lose him to Celtic 🤣

I’ve heard you’ve nicked our song by the way, “we’re all from Derby, who the fcuk are you?” - is that right? I’ll find out later I guess. If you have I might shake my fist in your general direction and say “why, you…..”.

  6. It'll be an interesting game tonight, two teams in a shiite run of form. Something's gotta give and hopefully it'll be your defence. There's only around 700 of us travelling tonight which is a shame, I wish we could play you on a Saturday. You've got to trek down to us on a bloody Tuesday in February too. I'm getting ready to start "Paul Warne, your football is shiite" and am hoping you lot join in.

Anyway, looking forward to it. Time to put the snorkel and flippers on and attempt to get to Pride Park. See you later.

Sorry but your post loses a little credibility at this point. Watching the match live didnt hear a sound from home fans whilst Derby fans were very loud and proud all match but yes guess must be acoustics

Just saying it as I heard it. Your commentary was from the away end wasn’t it? We weren’t at our best at all, the line up and the performance put paid to that, but we sang for most of the game. I could see you guys bouncing a bit but we just couldn’t hear you at all, the sound doesn’t carry well. It’s what happens at a lot of grounds, one team sings ‘is this your library?’ and the other team sing ‘we forgot that you were here’.

Anyway, my work here is done, good luck for the rest of the season 👍

  8. I’m posting this through gritted teeth, but well done to Derby for a much needed win last night. I thought the first half was very poor from both sides, the only notable moment of quality was the save by your w**ker of a keeper from our header, that was unbelievable. Second half you stepped it up, played a bit better, scored a decent free kick and then a second as we got sloppy, then saw the game out despite us having a bit of pressure in the last 15 and getting a goal back.

I can’t have too many complaints as I knew we’d lose when I saw our line up, and I said that before the game as my mate Rowls will testify (hi Rowls 😉) as we had several key players out with injury and nothing up top (a 17 year old making his full debut and a bit-part striker who is getting back to fitness). Got to say though, I wasn’t impressed with your team, although it’s probably not surprising given how low on confidence you’d have been in your current run of form, hopefully last night will give a bit of that back to you and you’ll improve from here on in 🤞

Regards your fans, hardly heard you at all but imagine you’ll say the same about us, it’s the acoustics. No doubt we were all singing, but couldn’t hear each other. I hope you all enjoyed your visit to our city and the real St James Park.

And final word to your keeper. What an embarrassment of a man he is. I get game management, taking your time with goal kicks and throw-ins, etc (and we’ve been pretty good at that at times this season, including in the 0-0 at your place), but this guy was just a cheat, plain and simple. The incident when our tiny left back ran up to him, your keeper turned and they touched shoulders and he then threw himself to the ground and asked for the trainer to come on was one of the worst bits of cheating I’ve seen. The referee should have sent him off and kicked him up the arse on the way off for that. Or maybe I’m being a bit sensitive. Either way, the bloke’s a w**ker. Sorry.

Anyway, good luck for the rest of the season, please get into the play offs and beat argyle. I’m off to see my therapist having got to bed less than 5 hours ago, waking up and then coming straight onto an opposition fans’ forum. My name is FBH and I have a problem.

Thanks for the heads up - sounds from this thread we’re better off sticking to some of the pubs mentioned on here then. Bowling Green sounds ok, but we could do without the stress of a mega busy pub

The Bowling Green will be rammed (see what I did there?) as will the St Anne’s Well, which is your designated pub.

Either go into town, or go to Henry’s Bar (short walk from the ground, on the same road as the Bowling Green but further up away from town) or go to the fanzone at the ground. Home and away fans mix well there and there’s lots of outside space, although the bar itself will be busy. There’s also a Farm Shop hog roast and other food available.

Personally, I’ll be going to the quayside first, then the fanzone. But you won’t struggle to find somewhere to have a decent pint and a friendly natter with the locals.

  10. Exeter fan here, loads of good tips on this thread already, didn’t realise you were all staying for three weeks.

I’d just add a few things: the poster who said we’re a friendly bunch is spot on, there won’t be any trouble unless you go looking for it which I’m sure you won’t. Avoid the Duke of York in that regard.

The away end will have great pasties but they will sell out quickly, we don’t have the ovens to keep 15,000 pasties warm so please don’t abuse the catering staff, it’s not their fault. Either get there early or eat in town or at the Red Square fanzone which will be very welcoming, even if you’re wearing colours.

Not sure which Exeter will turn up today, and imagine you’ll be saying the same thing. We gave a huge amount of energy in the argyle game on Saturday so some players may be rested, I’m looking forward to seeing our line up. I’m hoping for a good game and a City win (obvs) with a good atmosphere, but if you score twice in the first ten minutes it’ll be a morgue, especially after Saturday’s undeserved defeat to argyle which we’re all still hurting from.

The designated away pub is St Anne’s Well which is a two minute walk to the away turnstiles. And your coaches will drop you off and pick you up from right outside the turnstiles as well.

I really hope you all enjoy your trip to our beautiful city, even after your heavy defeat. Funnily enough I live in Derby so will be travelling down and back today with you all, ha ha.

  11. If I can join in on the post match chat and give an away fan’s perspective…..

I enjoyed the game, but only in the way I enjoyed our 0-0 at Accrington earlier this season, I enjoyed watching two teams battle it out with loads of endeavour, even if there wasn’t much creativity on show. I enjoyed watching my beloved little old Exeter playing in a proper stadium against a proper club with proper fans. And I enjoyed singing my heart out for the lads until I now sound like Barry White.

As for the game, if I was a Derby fan I would be disappointed. You were the better side and the referee was poor for you, amazing for us. I didn’t think our keeper should have been sent off due to the ball going left and our covering defenders, but he certainly should have been booked and a free kick given. Amazing decision - as were lots of goal kicks / throw ins, especially the one in the last minute which was just in front of us. Hilarious.

I thought you looked a solid side, you just couldn’t create much in the last third, so although I thought you were the better side you didn’t really trouble our keeper, apart from the free kick which drew an excellent save from him.

The reason we celebrated the final whistle so much was not only that we’d come to the home of a genuine footballing ‘big club’ and got a point, but we’ve had horrendous defensive injury problems in recent weeks, two of our players are staring down the barrel of a court appearance after their actions on Saturday night (I’m on their side by the way), we’ve had a new manager for 24 hours and we’ve got a team full of academy graduates.

Finally (thanks for humouring me), what did you make of our support? I’m always interested in the other team’s view of us - did our numbers surprise you? Could you hear us? Can never tell with stadium acoustics. I thought your support was great considering how low you are in the football league compared to your history and also considering it wasn’t the most exciting game to watch.

Anyway, thanks for letting me join in. I might pop back when we play you at home next Spring. Good luck for the rest of the season. COYR (works for Reds and Rams).

I never expected to see Devonian ethnic tensions played out on a DCFC forum, but as we're playing all 3 of Devons top teams this season, I guess we must brace ourselves for more of this

This didn't register before - 3 Devon teams? Are you including Bristol Rovers in there? They're not from Devon.

Oh, and while I'm here, how the actual f*** did you throw away the game against our inbred cousins, Plymouth f****** Argyle? If ever I wanted Derby to win a game it was that one. I hope you're as generous with us.

  13. 1 hour ago, angieram said:

Firstly, we have had our own Chris Martin, far more famous than yours! ?

Secondly, we tried to buy Ollie Watkins, but you wanted more for him than we offered and you said no. Then you sold him to Brentford for less than we offered. What was that all about, then?

Lastly, I really enjoyed my only visit so far to St James Park, where I stood on the Big Bank. Your fans were very welcoming. Admittedly, you weren't playing Derby at the time!

I’m not convinced you offered more. Plus we always get decent add ons and thank God we did with Brentford - we got £2m from them and then a further £5m when they sold him to Villa. The deal we got from Brentford we thought was fair, the deal from you wouldn’t have been enough.

  14. Ours would be Chris Martin of Coldplay (used to be a season ticket holder, his dad still is), Joss Stone (member of the Supporters Trust that owns the club) and Liam Tancock, the Olympic swimmer (born and bred in Exeter, still regularly goes to games).

I make that a draw, possibly an away win.

In case you didn’t know, and assuming any of you give a flying one, we are one of the very few clubs in the country that are owned by the Supporters Trust. So we have no external debt (other than to the Trust), but no real assets other than the players, particularly the young Academy players, which are the main source of keeping us going. We bring through youngsters and then play them and / or sell them.

Names you might know who came through our Academy and we sold for decent money:

Ollie Watkins, Matt Grimes, Ryan Harley, Jordan Storey, Jordan Moore-Taylor, Christy Pym, Dean Moxey (played for you lot), George Friend, Alfie Pond (just sold to Wolves for £500k), Jay Stansfield (sold to Fulham now back on loan to us), Ethan Ampadu, Mark Ellis, David Fox, Jordan Tillson, etc.

Just realised we’re great at producing really good Jordans.

So, we’re never going to win the Premier League, but we’re sustainable and trying to punch above our weight in a world of mega-bucks clubs. We’re the underdog’s underdog and we bloody love it.

That’s why seeing the lads walk out at Pride Park will mean so much to us. For our boys to be on the same pitch as a famous, proper club like Derby County will be wonderful to see. To win would involve several pairs of pants in the away end being soiled.

If you’ve read this far, thanks for humouring me.

  15. I’m hoping our players will be OK to play on Tuesday, there’s more to the events on Saturday night than meets the eye. Video also circulating of a pissed up bloke following our players wives into the ladies toilets and punching one of them. Allegedly argyle fans who stopped in Exeter on their way back from Bristol. Fingers crossed our lads are commended for their actions in slapping those t****.
