Clowes is a smart businessperson. A new deal will come but only when Warne has exceeded expectations. Say it’s this time next year and we are comfortably safe.
Warne has two years to run on his current deal, so surely you just let things play out.
Dealing with the manager’s future would be a needless distraction at this point. It should be a case of all eyes and all minds on building the best possible playing squad we can.

I don’t think we have to be ruthless. We have to be sensible and strike a balance.
At the end of the day, Warne’s success has been achieved through good man management and building a good club culture.
If we decide to be ‘ruthless’ we’ll be left with almost no-one and having to rebuild the team from scratch as well as the good atmosphere in the dressing room and good team spirit and understanding amongst the players.
That shouldn’t be underestimated. Warne won’t want a team of strangers lining up together on the opening day.

The ''big money'' you mention here comes from parachute payments, and in Coventry's case- the Gyokeres money. We have neither, therefore these kind of suggestions are probably a bit of a stretch for us right now.

People will get bogged down with individuals, when we have to think about the team as a whole.
We don’t necessarily need 11 outstanding individuals to prosper, but we do need individuals that complement the players around them and make the sum of the parts that much better.
As mentioned before, look at the current Ipswich squad. On an individual basis, very few of them if any would have been considered a top Championship player last summer and probably still aren’t now.
However with good coaching and man-management, as a unit, they look fantastic and have carried confidence and momentum through into this season and they are very much deserving of their place in the promotion picture.
The beauty of next season is everyone starts on zero and if we start our preparations today, we have a head start on over a third of the division.

You've got to ask yourself why Paul Warne and his team came to Derby, when he could have probably stayed at Rotherham, kept them up a season, probably come back down second season, re-grouped and gone up again.
A job for life. Safe and steady.
Him and his team came because they have ambition. They want to have a go at taking a club further than they'll ever take Rotherham.
It was a calculated risk, hence negotiating a four year deal. They've delivered the first part of their plan and will be determined to deliver more. I think that's why his response to promotion has been muted, to say the least.
He's partway through the job and I don't think he's expecting an extension. But he and his team have shown good learning over the course of the season.
Let's see how they do in the Championship first. I think they've earned at least another season.

I think we give him time in the same way as if he was a new manager.
this is a new era for the club now, first time in what 2 years plus that we havent operated under an embargo or a strict business plan.
a lot of players still here were signed at the v end of a transfer window where were still waiting to find out if we have a club.
there will be a lot of changes due to out of contracts and quite simply a step up in league quality.
so as i said at the start of this season, we … as a fanbase would be best placed to exercise patience … not go off on one after 6 games, 12 games or even before xmas.
if there is wholesale changes no matter who u are it takes time for those players to gel and hit a rhythm… hopefully people will have seen this last year and will be more prepared to exercise some retraint be calling for the manager to go or slashing wrists after 30 minutes of the first home game that doesnt go our way

Personally I would think around Christmas time would be about right for considering whether contract extensions are in order both for the club and for warne , it’s easy to forget that we as a club might not meet his ambition s in terms of being able to get the players he wants to give him a real shot at seeing how far he can go , anybody looking at his record over the last few years can see there’s obviously something there ,
the last two seasons have not really been about building anything other than a culture and spirit of togetherness amongst a squad and the club and the value of that should not be underestimated, the job was to get promoted asap , the other parts of the building job starts now and is shared between warne , scouting/recruitment staff and the club , I think this is where a lot of disagreement on this forum has come from ,
I see no reason why warne can’t thrive at championship level given the right backing and I hope he does , he deserves it far more than a lampard or Rooney trading on they’re names as top players

We are all expressing our own opinions on here. They are often opinions without background knowledge.
We have no idea how players have performed in training, what’s going on in their personal lives, who’s a good influence and who isn’t.
So there is every possibility that we are wrong. That doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t have our say, or indeed that other ’experts’ should tell us we are wrong, or even stupid.
I am quite happy to admit that I was a complete arse in doubting Collins’ ability to score goals this season.
I have been a strong critic of Sonny Bradley, and whilst some of that was justified, I’m delighted at the way he has played at the end of the season.
We’re all fallible but please let’s be more respectful of other opinions. Just as we don’t know much about the players’ private lives, you never know what posters on here are going through and how a casual slur can affect them.

To be honest though mate I think we’ve all felt like that over one topic on this forum, the unfortunate truth is we’ve all been the person rounding up on someone else too. Although I think it’s got a little worse since the admin year because everyone was more active and living through every twist, I just think it’s part of forum life. You’ll  write a throwaway post and it’ll be analysed within an inch of its life, you’ll write five long paragraphs explaining your view in a balanced way and no one will engage except one poster who still hasn’t got the point of what you’ve said. Again, it’s what it is.
We are all over precious about what we say, I really try nowerdays to make my point on something and let it go. It might not help debate but it helps not having to explain something over and over. Also I think we sometimes just have to admit we were wrong sometimes. I’ve criticised Warne, Bird, Wilson and a whole load more things at different times this season but I’ve also had to admit on here they’ve all proved me wrong at some point too. We all have a right to an opinion but we also have to put our arms up sometimes too.

Let’s see where each win takes us.
We’ll have enough pundits and experts consigning us to relegation as it is.
The Championship is always very difficult to predict and always full of surprises.
If Warne, Thomas, Hale and the backroom staff work well together and have a productive summer, we could be the surprise package, carry momentum from this season into next, and get into the play-offs.
The first signing will set the tone.
