sage
I'd meet up at the Smithfield after the game, then go to the Brewery Tap, then decide which direction to go in. a) Furnace Silk MiIl Dolphin Flowerpot Five Lamps, though under 40s may want something more lively or b) go to the Standing Order, then down Sadlergate (Bell Hotel etc) on the way to Friargate

There could be up to a dozen of us and what we won’t be is raucous or rowdy. I’m too old to know about Derby city centre watering holes these days and all the other participants are from elsewhere in the country. I would be grateful for recommendations on civilised establishments serving a good range of lagers and craft beers. Eating destination not decided yet but could be the Okra on Friargate. https://derbysportsbar.co.uk Ideal place to head to if you book.

(ie the ones that those customers who say things like "I don't want one with citrus in" or "5.2? That's a bit too strong for me." tend to veer toward) It does depend just what the OP is referring to as craft though, there's not really anywhere other than suds & soda that specialises in keg & can stuff. Think the best bets to fit the brief are... The Alex (real ales geared more toward the modern side), The Smithfield (similar), Brewery Tap (decent enough mix and alright bottle selection), and The Furnace, before moving onto the Flowerpit. Most of the other pubs mentioned are a bit nothingy in selection, and I don't tend to go into them unless I'm playing darts there or meeting people. Only issue is I'm not really sure what 'a range of lagers' constitutes, or what they're really looking for in this regard, they've all just got your standard sort of stuff (but if they insist on Madri they'll be SOL) I can't really think of anywhere in the actual centre, I’m obviously out of touch here , as I thought craft beers meant any drinks other than lager, bitter and mild ( can you still get that?). My son drinks Ghost Ship, Atlantic, Timothy Taylor’s Landlord and others I can’t recall the names of. As long as we can get lager, bitter, pale ale and one or two of the ones with funny names then I think everyone will be happy. Thank you everyone for taking the trouble to respond to my original post and , if you feel you have anything to add to the discussion, I would be glad to hear from you. One more thing, I just know I’ll have to bail out and go home before the end of festivities. Is Derby city centre safe on a Saturday night for an old git looking for a taxi home?
