I accept its early days, and @Srg is right to point out that our transfer business is now a tightly guarded secret, other than to @Big Trav . But the point I raised was how many Warne loyalists are beginning to feel twitchy. Has he the vision and desire to try to get someone into the club who is maverick and exciting, and/or does he have the rep to pull in any decent Prem League young starlets on loan? Are Conor Washington and James Collins actually the kind of players we are going to be relying on this season to entertain us?

So far the transfers have been functional rather than exciting.

Hoping for a big CH, a mobile midfield player, a clever wide player and a forward pairing- one good in the air, the other a goal scorer.

If Conor W. is a serious option and we’re not worried by age, I’d rather have Bradley Dack.

Which striker would you like us to sign? It's a genuine question.

There's a distinct lack of quality strikers who have become free agents, and if they are good and free, then they'll likely have a lot of offers.

I think we'll rely on a "good" loanee for the main striker spot, but that might have to wait til the end of the window. In the meantime if players like Washington can contribute to the squad, then it could be a good option.

If it's not a loan, we'll have to pay a fee. I haven't seen any names or suggestions that would be a no-brainer. Players like Bonis might be good, might not. Players like JCH might cost too much and have no real resale value, or he might fire us to promotion.

Strikers are one of the most scrutinised positions along with goalkeepers, in my opinion. They get judged on one thing. I'm happy to go with Warne's judgement on who he thinks we need, then judge for myself once they've played a decent number of games for us.

Very good Gisby. You are a true disciple. I am actually being more serious than reactionary tonight, as I do think that Warne is struggling to attract a decent forward. Holidays are over. Pre-season training has started, and James Collins is already blowing out of his arse.

To claim I am a disciple is pushing it somewhat to say the least 🤣 but I do try to take heed of where forum members are coming from when they post. Some of us are deadly serious in our opinions others are more lighthearted, so when those who have a tendency to prefer the banter choose to be serious it’s not always easy to discern 🤷‍♂️. For what it’s worth I tend to disagree with your assumptions. My opinion is that, as he has stated previously, Mr Clowes likes to do his business away from the glare of publicity likewise Mr Pearce & Mr Warne will be expected to do so also. They will be working on the targets they want not those in the merry go round of an agents, journalists & ITKs gene pool. When the deal is closed they will announce until then we will just have to be patient. That’s my opinion, rose colored spectacles? Quite possibly … time will tell. Have a good weekend 😉

Hope Clowes has plunged some money into the cafeteria at Moor Farm.

I can’t answer your first question Kernow. I genuinely have little interest in following other team’s players, or monitoring stats from websites. That said I do know a little bit about James Collins and Conor Washington as both have been around for years. Not, very, exciting.

Nothing else you say can I pull you up on, other than who might trust Warne with a ‘good’ loanee?

Washington could be a good option, he might prove effective, he might help us into the Championship. I too will be behind Washington and anyone else we buy/loan until they ‘have played a decent number of games for us’, and probably a few more.

However, is any part of you twitching? A slight hand tremor, an unusual bit of blinking, the occasional release of wind? Do you think Warne is going to bring a forward player or two in who will genuinely excite you?

Come on then, be truthful, who is worried that Warne is struggling to find or convince any decent strikers to sign for us for the coming season. Conor Washington they yell. Prosecution rests its case.

Not sure I’m worried about Warne’s pull. But I’m certainly twitchy that there doesn’t seem an outstanding, realistic candidate that’s being linked to replace Didzy.

Going straight to the last part, it depends what I've had for tea. Sometimes if a pasty is far too peppery, but I get through it.

Seriously though, if another side in this division had Washington as their main striker, then no I wouldn't be too worried. But then I look at the top scorers in this division from last season, and there aren't too many there that would "excite" me if we signed them, but if they come here and score goals then job done.

Some of the players on the list we've had suggested, players like Alfie May, Freddie Ladapo, Sam Smith etc. None I would label as overly exciting. Washington scored 11 goals in both of his last two seasons at this level. The same amount as James Collins got, two less than Sam Smith last season, but I feel like people would be a lot happier with him than Washington.

What I will say though is that I have been happy with Warne's signings so far this summer. Yet I'm pretty sure we didn't even have a thread in the Transfer area of the forum until they'd actually signed, and if it wasn't for the man, the myth, the oracle, the legend, @Big Trav then they would have been names that came out of nearly nowhere. I'd hope there might be a name of a striker nobody was expecting come out and sign too.

You have a good weekend too Gisby.
Interesting that Mr Clowes today said something (I don’t fully remember) along the lines that Warne was a League 1 specialist or had the knowledge how to get out of this league. He didn’t suggest he was innovative, or tactically astute, or a player developer, or an entertainer, but more simply ‘he does what it says on the side of the tin’. Hence why I think this season we might just be successful with whoever he secures to fill the forward positions, but will we be actually entertained and feel that as a club we are in any form of true progression?

So guys here are the scorers for three promoted teams as you can see each contain a good goal scorer of at least 15+ then the rest are 7+. Derby need to spread the scorers around this year.

In an ideal world, just from the names we've had out there and nothing too left field I'd like...

Both Harding and Bradley for CB to start alongside Cash, Nelson and Fozzy as squad players.

Jaden Brown as WB cover for both sides.

Lewis Wing to add to CM. Brannagan would be a good option if Knight goes, if not carry on as we are.

I wanted Liam Delap as a striking option, feel like he could've reignited his career here, looks like he's going to Hull. Ladapo and Smith would be my two picks from strikers who have been suggested already, but like I've said in my other post, not overly exciting.

Oi!! Your a bloody moderator. Stop all this off topic nonsense. Only your last sentence is relevant. Didn’t know Delap might be going to Hull. Wants to play some football with Rosenior does he?

Exactly where I’m at on this. I think we are seeing a pattern in the era of Mr Clowes. Business is not done in the public eye. There appears to be a much more discreet & professional approach to recruitment. Those names already banded about are put out there by those with a vested interest. I too am expecting a few more signings that nobody was expecting. I’m not twitching just yet.
