The Ukraine War

News on Russian telegram channels claiming Ukraine has taken Opytne, which is a couple of miles from Donetsk airport and is located on the edge of Donetsk city itself.

If this is true. It’s quite interesting.

Now, Ukraine aren’t going to attack Donetsk, Russia invaded in 2014 and it’s supposedly an absolute fortress, which would take more man power than Ukraine could spare in the current offensive.

But the fact that they are now at the doorstep of the city is significant and so close to the airport making it untenable. I wonder what they are planning to do to wear the Russians in the city down over time?

There are claims that a big part of this attack was Ukraine sending up a giant Ukrainian flag with balloons when the wind was blowing in the direction of the airport.

Russian forces were instructed to bring it down by any means necessary, in the process they gave away their position and were attacked.

Wild if true

Meanwhile, far in the background, away from the headlines…

“The HALO Trust regrets to confirm that three of its deminers have been injured by an unplanned explosion on a minefield in the Kherson oblast, Ukraine, at around 11:30 local time this morning, Friday 8 September.  All three deminers are currently being treated in hospital. HALO personnel are liaising and providing support to family members and are in close contact with the medical team who are treating them at the hospital.    We have informed the national authorities and temporarily suspended operations in the area pending an accident investigation. Our thoughts are with our injured Ukrainian colleagues, their families and friends at this difficult time.”

https://www.halotrust.org/press-office/

Two severe, one critical with life-threatening injuries, according to “leaked internal emails”!

Not known personally to my son, and not part of his team. More “colleagues of colleagues” in truth, but us parents can’t help thinking like parents, can we!

We add our own thoughts and best wishes for a speedy recovery to the victims, and our prayers to the affected families.  xxx

… Thankfully our son was/is miles away at the time, here in SW France, and we all switched off from our worries on Saturday, to celebrate his marriage to a truly lovely French lass.  An absolutely wonderful day was had by all, and we’ll say our au revoirs later this morning as me & Muckerette commence our 6 day mini camping tour back North’ards to the UK.

Regards,

A selfish but very grateful parent.

Couldn't decide whether to put a heart or a sad face, so thought best to reply. Terrible news about the injured but very pleased for you all as a family. Hope everything remains good.

Looks like Ukraine has damaged a Kilo class sub and war ship that were in dry dock in Sevastopol.

Sevastopol is where most of the operations for Russias Black Sea fleet is stationed, so that’ll give Russia a huge headache now they know Ukraine can hit them.

Its pretty interesting to see how much damage a country with pretty much no navy has inflicted on Russia.

How significant is North Korea to Russia?, Would they send troops to support the Russian Army...if so would NATO be forced to get involved.

Interestingly, Bits of a Russian rocket landed in Romania who said...no there wasn't, Then admitted it happened, Todays press reports the Russian Airforce fired at a RAF reconnaissance plane with 30 onboard over the Black Sea, Our Government sort of covered it up, But has since now said that there was a miscommunication with one Russian pilot, One heat seeking missile missed and the other failed at launch.

USA reporting that the 2nd Russian pilot blew his fuse at the attacking pilot with a mouth full of Russian expletives, If the RAF plane was downed...how close were we to WW3?

Russia needs munitions so I’d imagine North Korea is the only country willing to openly sell them to Russia.

Im not sure NK is going to send soldiers to fight. There will probably increased surveillance/intel too. Not that it will probably worth much.

A lot of hype (justified) over the dry dock hits but also worth noting; a successful hit on the S-400 battery near Yevpatoriya last night that was comically revealed by a Russian tourist last summer. Unfortunately the RADAR looks intact but at least one launcher is completely destroyed. Some interesting takes out there on how the Ukrainians are manipulating one of Russia's most deadly SAM systems to be able to attack it.

They wouldn't send troops and their troops would be useless anyway. However, they might sell them missiles, anti-tank equipment and god knows what else. Considering North Korea is experiencing a famine and is desperate for food, cash, and a lot of resources it makes them very willing sellers. There are significant sanctions which in theory prevents the North from trading with others but they have found ways around sanctions before and may do so again.

I believe that system cost almost $1.5bn

Blackrock and Vanguard now own more land in Ukraine than the Russians.

Once the war is over i expect they'll give it back to the Ukrainians who owned it previously?

How much Ukrainian land do they own?

Whilst I’m not keen on Vanguard/Blackrock being involved in Ukraine (Vanguard are one of the largest shareholders in Blackrock), it’s hard to see how Ukraine rebuilds their country without getting the money from organisations like that.

Ukraine will probably need anywhere between $500-750 billion to rebuild even if the war ended within the next year. Who’s got that kind of capital apart from these dreadful organisations?

The IMF hasn’t even got anywhere near the amount required with Ukraine only getting $15 billion from them this year.

Of course if Russia hadn’t invaded Ukraine, then Ukraine wouldn’t need to go knocking on the vultures door with the begging bowl.

The same people will profit whoever wins the war. The same families who own Blackrock/Vanguard also control Putin and Zelensky.

This isn’t so much a Ukraine and Russia problem, more a global problem.

Vanguard and Blackrock together have something like $15 trillion in assets, in a global economy estimated to be in the region of $100 trillion.

Their tentacles are everywhere.
