Srg
Barnsley been boned here. Possible penalty a couple of minutes ago which I’m surprised VAR didn’t give. Now a red card which is a bit harsh.

Srg
Just now, Rambalin said: Another Var mess up should have told ref to go look It’s the whole thing about “if he goes to look, he overturns”. Which I don’t understand. Just get him to look to make sure. It seems nonsensical. Will the Ram and SKRam
Loughborough Ram
Barnsley have been well and truly shafted. I'm just glad I'm not fussed who wins. VAR is an appalling addition to the game. Its run by referees for the benefit of referees and adds nothing to the game. Shades of Huddersfield and Forest last season when VAR decided who went up
Gaspode
And minutes after what looked a good penalty shout for Barnsley ignored by VAR - guess the VAR team are under instructions from the EFL to get Wednesday promoted….
Wolfie20
Definite red - a reckless tackle all day long! That numptie Don Goodman coming out with "in a play-off final that's not a red" - FFS what difference does it make whether it's first game of the season or a Wembley final - he's Mr Double Standards. Scott129
Barnsley responded well. I wanted Wednesday to go up so they're out of our way next season, but not now. Absolutely don't deserve it.

Haha thought I was going to be the only one who thought a red was fair. Certainly could argue it either way. But yeah Goodman is a plank. A reckless tackle is a yellow card, A dangerous tackle is a red card. Where's the line between a decent challenge and a sending-off offence? Effectively there are four types of challenge - firstly a correct tackle, where the player fairly wins the ball and there is no impact on their opponent, the vast majority of challenges. A small element are careless - the player makes a legitimate attempt but either in their timing or the skill of the opponent, they foul the other player and a free kick is given. If the tackle is reckless in nature, the player is booked, a yellow card is given. If a player endangers the safety of their opponent, it's a red card, a sending-off. A tackle happens in a blink of an eye and in that second, the referee must consider lots of factors. Was it careless? Did the player show a lack of regard for his opponent's safety? Or did he use excessive force? There is also the state of the pitch, the conditions and the state of the game.
