Its an opportunity for youth to play without pressure, also who wants to sit at home and watch Derby win the play offs in front of no crowd?

It would be fitting though, wouldn't it...failed on a number of occasions, including in front of fantastic vocal support at Wembley, but put us in an unnamed venue in front of no fans, superb

A good time to give fringe players and any promising young players a run in the team. We obviously aren't going to make the play offs, so nothing to lose in getting prepared early for next season.

We're only 5 points off...

I personally dont think we will make the playoffs but any team should play to.win every game, it would be pretty unprofessional to chuck some youngsters in just because we can whilst we still have a chance. 5 points is easy to make up but we will rely on teams above us dropping points (could be quite easy since we are playing most of them)

Given recent announcements we're probably now less than a month until the return of competitive championship football.

How are people feeling about the return? Should Cocu be preparing the squad to make a late(or is it now early?) push for the playoffs or should he try to get more youth players ready for the first team?

Cocu should be putting out the best team available for each game... It just so happens some of our best players are our youngsters at the minute! I'm especially looking forward to seeing Sibley getting more game time; his full debut (and incidentally, the whole team performance on the day) just before lockdown against Blackburn was brilliant.

Going to be very interesting how the players react to all this and what their fitness levels are.

We could still make the playoffs I reckon.

I would imagine all clubs will be concerned about fitness levels and will be working on them as we speak. What we do have in our favour is a pretty big squad, if we are to play nine games in a short period.

But lets face it, no matter what the fitness levels are, all players have had 3 months off so should be fairly fresh.

Probably a great time to slot more youngsters in. Less pressure from the fans. They will have more energy at the end of the game. Transfer possibilities in the future may not be great, so see how they fare. Cocu’s Babes. And the way this season has gone. It’s probably written in the stars that we finally get our stadium on Fifa and reach the Premier league and we all miss it. Up the Rams

5 points, 9 games to go, 27 points to play for, Millwall, Reading and Preston to play in the next 3 games.

Cocu will have these players drilled and ready, we have Rooney, Martin bang in form, Huddlestone and Holmes back fit, then the small matter of Sibley introducing himself to the world of football.

Anything is possible.

Well we have Martin and Huddlestone until the end of June at least

If the season continues, wont players have an automatic contract extension until the conclusion of the season?

We could lose Martin, Huddlestone and Clarke otherwise at the end of June?

I don't think so. You can't force players to extend a contract if they don't want to.

Not an automatic extension, especially loans. Think we have to agree loan extensions with clubs individually, and probably contracts with our players too. Could be messy if teams lose a large number of players...

You're right but why would they? After all, other than loans going back to their parent clubs, players out of contract can't sign for another team until the next transfer window opens and in the current situation, who knows when that might be. Better to take another months' money while they can.

If they already know where they're going, an injury might throw a spanner in the works.
