Christie's Future

Considering what we paid for him, Cyrus has been a good player for Derby. I also think he has potential to play at a higher level and is no where near as bad as some make out. He is unplayable when on his game, and played well for 3/4 of his first season, most of the clement season and then played until injury last season. When he's bad however, he's horrendous and it's these performances people remember, even when in a lot of these games other players are having mares!!

On his day he is one of the best in the league but as much as he talks himself up, he's a confidence player, if things go wrong he goes to pieces. Maybe Rowett will complete him by improving his game defensively, whether ultimately he has the mental toughness required to play at the highest level though remains a big question.

However, I think Rowett has obviously told him what direction he's heading and he's seen the transfer rumours so this article is either to remind Rowett what he has, put himself in the shop window or both.

As for LB, Olsson is decent, just not as good as Fozzy (who is the the best LB in the league!) and doesn't have Lowe's potential. But Olsson could be a left back for a top 6 rival.

I was with you until you said that, he's not that good, would be very happy if we shipped him and Christie out for decent money.

Best post in the thread. Right on everything.

Chrisite's main faults highlighted in the first 15 seconds of this video.

Tries to do too much with the ball, doesn't try to get back into position quickly enough, bad postioning (standing on top of Keogh) and then indecisive when the ball comes to him.

A surprising stat that sky put up before the playoff final, apologies if it's been mentioned further back. He had the 3rd most assists from a defender this season behind the two Huddersfield fullbacks. Make of that what you will personally thought he was average all season tbh.

Edit: chances created not assists!

Thinks he's the best full back in the league, deluded! Baird puts him to shame and he's 35

Baird is a hugely experienced ex international defender he knows what he is best at and he knows what he can't do

christie is still learning and hasn't worked out what he is good at and what he needs to stop doing

another major scenario is the fact that Christie has one year left which means he signs another contract extension or is sold this transfer window or in January as we can't afford to watch a young international defender just walk away for nothing!

From what he says he's not 'still learning' is he though. Better sell before he sees out his contract for sure.

Hence he is still learning ! ( but yes sell if we are not long term going to use him)

You can lead a horse to water but Christie ain't drinking!

I do have sympathies for Christie because for the last two seasons our only main out ball has been the goalkeeper to the right back on the halfway line to win a header as we couldn't anywhere else upfield, he still has potential and time to get a lot better.

He's 24 going on 25 and has been playing league football for the last 6 years. If you're playing 4 at the back then first and foremost the full backs need to be defensively sound, if it's a 5-man backline then the wing backs need pace, athleticism (which Christie has) plus the ability to deliver the right cross, at the right pace to the right area (which he more often than not fails to do).

So irrespective of the formation(s) Rowett decides on, we need an upgrade at RB, with Baird there as back-up.

i'm all for players knowing what they can do when they can actually do it.  Christie is a so so fullback in my opinion and apparently not willing to learn to adapt and improve his game.  One year left on the contract, with an uncertain future at the club, sell while we can get a decent fee for him.

He's an international, sell him while he's worth something ? we could fetch maybe 2 million if we find the right club. Go and get Wisdom with that ? strong, quick and can defend as well! We'll have Lowe or Forsyth galloping up the left side. A new centre half would be nice as well.. defensively we've not been good enough, that's where the major changes need to happen. The firepower is there, defenders and a better balance in midfield please Gary
