Excellent read. See link below

Chris Martin will score 20+ goals this season coming up for sure.

Quote

The striker, who has returned to the Derby fold following a season-long loan spell at Fulham last term, is determined to enjoy a positive season.

Martin has scored 63 goals in 160 appearances for the Rams following his arrival from Norwich City, initially on loan, in 2013.

He finished as Derby’s top goalscorer in the 2013/14, 2014/15 and 2015/16 seasons and is fired up to play a key role for the side once again.

Feeling in good shape and with a real thirst for goals, he is excited about the future.

He has also been in good form so far in pre-season, netting in the friendlies against Kidderminster Harriers and Kaiserslautern.

Martin told RamsTV: “I’m 28 years old and I feel like I am in as good a condition that I’ve been in.

“There’s no reason why I can’t replicate or even better what I have done before.

“After the disappointment of last season and how it went on the field (he was a regular in the Fulham side until the closing months of the campaign), this season is a big one for me personally.”

Martin also feels there’s a determination to prove a few doubters wrong.

He wants to write a few wrongs and has a driven desire to make his mark under Gary Rowett at Pride Park Stadium.

He said: “I can’t wait to get started and maybe prove a few people wrong , and also prove to myself it’s still in me.

“I know it’s in there and when you’ve had a disappointing season, the desire and drive is reignited even more inside you to go and put it right I suppose.”

Both he and the rest of the team seem to have been released from the straitjacket that SM put them in.   I think we dissenters were dreading a return to this rigid set-up when CM returned.    The new freedoms and his determination to make good should see a decent goal return................hopefully.   More like the Chrissie we saw when he was here on loan.

"a decent goal return................hopefully.   More like the Chrissie we saw when he was here on loan."

Whilst here on loan:

2012-13 - Appearances, 13; Goals, 2; Ratio, 0.15

Whilst here permanently:

2013-14 - Appearances, 44; Goals, 20; Ratio, 0.45

2014-15 - Appearances, 40; Goals, 18; Ratio, 0.45

2015-16 - Appearances, 37; Goals, 14; Ratio, 0.37

I sincerely hope that he does not go back to 'the Chrissie we saw when he was here on loan.' because I struggle to see how that represents a better goal return than his subsequent years of outstanding goal returns.

To summarize my current feelings about Martin. The only time we didn't make the playoffs with him in the team, is when he was out half a season. We shipped him out on loan for a season, and the team we shipped him to made the playoffs.

Didn't too much today did he? Except sky an absolute sitter. Nugent every day of the week backed by Vydra and we have something.

Nugent also missed 'an absolute sitter'. Thought the ball to Martin was behind him and to Nugent was a bit short.

How would you rate his contribution at the Stadium of Light ?

The Nugent one was weak too but not as bad. How long did Nugent play? He'd have prob had a hat trick if he'd played the whole game.  We looked v dangerous at the end but that could also be down to the formation change and/or the fitness difference.

Yes absolutely. Nugent's was more of a half chance than Martins hoof into row Z.  Nugent really is the best chance we have to get a striker into double figures this season.
