He failed at Newcastle and his head is easily turned. If he started to succeed here, after 6 months who knows what will happen?

He does learn from his mistakes - ie his failure at snotts. But I think he is after different things in his career now anyway.

Imagine if he was rubbish and we had poor results. Some decent passing but leaking goals. We'd sack him and we would look even more ridiculous than we do already. Big gamble PR wise.

We need some safe hands with Powell in charge for the rest of the season. Fans love him and will give him time. That's a good formula to have.

Don't follow that logic. The greatest indication of future behaviour is past behaviour - your assertion ignores human nature. McClaren is ambitious, has managed England & won national titles abroad - he doesn't think he belongs at a large-medium club in the second tier.

Apart from one Dutch title with FC Twente, which other "national titles abroad" has he won?

the first thing that would happen is POSITIVE football, with a PURPOSE.

Which, is the only thing holding us back now. It was the same under Nigel Clough, where the apologists thought the players weren't up to it, and it's the same now. McClaren would have Blackman and co looking like stars of this league within a couple of months.

Always a pain when you agree with Mostyn, but he's bang on here. McClaren would give our quality, confidence ridden players the boost and swagger they need. An-inform Black, Vydra and Ince as a front three, wow.

Powell great bloke but cant believe he is being touted for the job, he wasn't even under consideration was he when Pearson got it?

If he gets it he will get everyone's support no doubt, but yet again it would feel like a Plan C at best for the second season running

I would much prefer decisive action and an immediate permanent replacement

The problem we find ourselves in now is that it is going to be difficult to attract a top drawer candidate to the club because they'd probably have to leave their current club to come to a side hovering above the relegation zone. It's very possible than Powell is the best option we have available, at least for this season.

Is it that we can't attract or that we can't find?

But surely we won't  be hovering over the relegation zone?

And that's getting your support is it?

The fact remains we are though. Our tumultuous start to the season could turn off many candidates until the ship is definitely steadied out.

I meant to say we won't  be hovering above the relegation zone in a few weeks time..

It doesn't matter who is appointed - there is no such thing as guaranteed success. Football is riddled with people who were written off by one group of fans at one club, only for him to emerge at another club and be a huge success. Then, an abject failure next time.

Who is to say that this isn't Chris Powell's time?
