Listening to Chris Powell speak i think this is now inevitable but it won't come cheap. I expect minimum £3.75m rising to over £4m with add ons.

As a player i would look at Huddersfield and look at us and just think it's a simple choice, currently.

What I don't understand about any of this is that all the player news has come from huddersfields end? Surely the more media attention they get, the more butterfield will be in the spotlight and may possibly struggle in their team? I get the impression as soon as they had the first bid they were trying to sell

Yep. It's Huddersfield that announced there had been two bids from Derby. DCFC have been consistent 'no comment' throughout.  How Powell can questions the DCFC tactics is beyond me.

Derby County look sure to maintain their pursuit of Huddersfield Town midfielder Jacob Butterfield.

Manager Paul Clement, still seeking his first win as manager, will be without England Under 21 ace Will Hughes for six months.

The 20-year-old club academy product has had surgery on a knee ligament injury sustained in the opening-day draw at Bolton Wanderers.

And Clement, whose side have had four league stalemates so far, wants to bring in a new face before the Tuesday, September 1 transfer deadline.

The Rams have made three unsuccessful bids, the most recent said to be of around £3m, for Butterfield, who played in Town’s 1-1 draw at Fulham on Saturday.

They have also been linked with Brighton and Hove Albion’s Dale Stephens, Nottingham Forest’s Henri Lansbury and Liverpool’s Joao Carlos Teixeira.

In addition, Derby have made a bid for Forest attacker Michail Antonio, but Clement said: “The priority is a midfielder.

“I cannot say we are close or not close with any of the players. When the players are signed, that is when they are in.

“All I can say is we have targeted not one but a couple of good midfielders.

“Good midfielders – any good players – are hard to get because clubs want to keep hold of them.

“We are pushing hard and we hope something will be done soon to complement the already good squad we have got.

“Hopefully, that will happen this week.”

Town manager Chris Powell said after Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Fulham: “Jacob is being pursued by a club I played for.

“I don’t like the way they are doing it, but this is football, and I have to deal with the situation.

“It has been tough for both him and myself, but he has dealt with it well and I think he is a credit to himself and his family.

“All I can say is that Jacob will come in and carry on being the professional he is and we will see what transpires.”

Former Middlesbrough player Butterfield, 25, picked up a thigh niggle at Fulham, but is expected to make a quick recovery.

Town host QPR this Saturday, while Derby are at home to Leeds United.

Anyone else noticed it says we've been linked with Henri Lansbury? I don't remember us being linked with him, or a typo?

I think Managers have a stock response to say that x team approached for our player and unsettled him just so the supporters can then blame x club. I would epect PC to do the same.

Of course you approach a club, its how you do it that matters and at no point have anyone at Derby mentioned anything about what they are doing.  Sorry Chris, respect you a lot, however please stop it.  It looks a little sad and you don't want to look like Sad Sean Dyche

I know it's only the reporters doing their job.. but I do wish they wouldn't press them about transfer dealings. Very often, managers say one thing, then further up the hierarchy will have accepted an offer because it was too good to turn down. Then the manager gets the flak because player X was sold when they said they weren't.

I like Clement's stance.

You'll know when a player's signed, when they're in a Derby shirt.

Sammon?

Can a season-long loan be cancelled if we opt to sell him? I'm struggling to think of who else might be considered "fringe" that is worth anything as a make-weight

The players their 'ITK' said we'd allowed them to pick from were Dawkins, Christie, Buxton, Warnock and Pearce (Not sure why we'd let Pearce go after just joining)

In a way I'm kinda glad we're being both professional (i.e. quiet) and ruthless (tapping up?) in the acquisition of players. I remember when Sam Rush came in and one of the first things he said was that Derby County were no longer going to be a pushover in the transfer market. Remember when we were the club constantly being taken advantage of with tiny transfer fees, and could only get crappy Premier League loans? I think it's safe to say we've got a bit more bite nowadays and I, for one, welcome it. Let's hope we get our man.
