The standard is terrible. The USA national team are supposed to be the best in the world got beat in a friendly by Dalla under 15s boys. Not even like they're an elite  academy

Same could be said for women's tennis. The Williams sisters couldn't get close to competing with a player ranked 200 plus in the world.

Yet women's tennis is very popular.

It doesn't interest me in the slightest. How BBC Sport put the women's results at the top of the page I'll never know.

I don't object to it in any way whatsoever, however the way women are chosen over men to be pundits and commentators just stinks of political correctness.

Each to their own but not for me.

I have no idea the ratio of men to women who commentate or do pundit work but willing to bet it's still heavily male dominated.

I know I find Alex Scott refreshing,  I'd listen to her talk every day over some of the Male pundits, never seems to be the bias shown by many of the Male pundits to their old clubs.

Also Laura Woods is excellent on talksport.

If I have nipped out to the shop, or like yesterday, went to get a haircut, i have put my mask on at home and got in the car and driven, not for protection but just so i dont forget to put it on when i get there. Guess it depends how far i was going, if its only 5 mins or so then yeah ill wear it in the car just for that reason alone. Wouldnt if it was a long drive of course.

And also, especially from a shop, as someone who has a habit of face touching, i have worn it in the car on the way home to stop me doing so, so i can get home and do the old 20 seconds hand wash.

More positive data being reported. 70% of UK adults have now been vaccinated against Covid. These groups account for over 99% of Covid deaths. Hospitalisations and death rates have been below the 5 year average for over a month.

    Good signs

Agree, I hope that we continue on the current path provided the Indian variant doesn't go mad which from what I read the signs are it won't.

There is evidence pointing towards the vaccine working and also it not being as bad as first thought with transmission.

    a) Because there are a percentage of vulnerable people who have chosen not to be vaccinated or are unaware how important it is;

    b) Because there are a smaller but still significant number of immuno compromised people for whom the vaccine is not suitable or doesn't work properly.

The question should be how much we are collectively responsible as a society for the wellbeing of these people?

Firstly I say sod the ones who choose not to have it, let them take their chances.

Secondly we must continue to raise awareness in communities with lower take up.

But the others I think we will have to keep on protecting as much as possible. That may be a joint effort between us and them. And that's also why you young people should have your jabs when you can, please, help with the latter.

Its a tough one and i sort of agree. Its frustrating to read that most of those hospitilised in Bolton are eligible for the vaccine but chose not to have it.

Of course we should never have a situation where we refuse treatment, but hopefully provided those people survive, and lets hope they do, they are given a stern talking to my the doctors and nurses at the hospital.

You are right on the immuno compromised too. I have had both mine but there is a good chance its not protected me aswell as others due to a health condition, so i need as many people to have the vaccine as possible which even if i have low protection will mean im better protected by default.

I am glad things are opening up though, ive even had to self isolate because have been at a pub the same time as someone who had the virus.

Just to be transparent I live in Bramcote ? I lived in Texas for a few years so still have friends there and follow the place on social. I’m not sure, I think they have but can’t be sure. The other point to make about that being lucky enough to work with people living in numerous countries, they don’t seem to bother about variants like we do. Maybe their media don’t spout it on about it like ours.

Its certainly hard work with the media,  just flicking through one well known tabloids website and met with such different headlines, one saying end to lockdown will be delayed, another saying it won't as the vaccine works.

I guess a lot depends if you are a glass half full or empty type of person and you notice negative headlines more than positive.

I don't mean you btw,  I mean you as in the population.

It is a farce specially if the ref has to run off the pitch and consult a screen. The worst incident though was last season Burnley v Bournemouth. A goal was scored, the ref disallowed it and gave a penalty at the other end for a var reviewed incident!

Not over here but what about the one in Germany were the players had gone to to dressing room for half time but brought out again to take a penalty awarded by VAR.

Have a time limit on it

but does the fact that everyone has to wait 30 seconds to see weather or not its a goal, not ruin the entire moment?

I would say officials generally got 90% of decisions right without VAR. I would much rather have the joy of scoring a goal back in the game than get every call perfect and make the sport boring. Some players have actually said they don't celebrate anymore as they know they have to wait for VAR. In my opinion this is not what football is about. Even if the ref gets the occasional decision wrong it's still something for fans to get together and talk about.

    VAR IS BORING.

Like i have said i dont like it, but i think its here to stay and taking steps to make it less disruptive would be a good thing to do, hence limit the time that it can be reviewed and so on, 30 seconds is a lot better than 4 minutes.

Serious question, does VAR or even the possibility of VAR are after each goal not ruin it for you? I just can't see past it no matter how it's implemented. I'd genuinely like to know why from someone who's in favour of it.

I dont like it no, never been in favour, but believe it could be used better than it is today.

It looks like they are trying to get every decision perfectly correct which was never the intention as far as im aware, it was for clear and obvious errors.

I think if red cards etc were prevented rather than having the have them rescinded a few days later, then that would be a good thing.

Is that what’s been suggested? That it’s got something to do with the MLS? I just don’t like the idea of Rooney bringing in an owner. The whole concept of that just doesn’t sound right to me. Might as well rename the club officially to: Wayne Rooney’s Derby County while he’s at it ?

I might be wrong but i thought nothing like that had been suggested, other than by guesswork and discussion on here.

    I dont think we know.

  11. VAR isnt the problem despite my dislike for it, its those using it.

If a decision takes minutes to arrive at its clearly being used wrong, no problem with it being used for offside, but have it so you only call it offside if you can tell visually, no stupid lines being drawn that still dont give you 100% confidence.

I think a time limit should apply for when the ref views the screen, 30 seconds, if its not obvious in that space of time then leave it.
