dcfc4ever reacted to i-Ram in Rams vs Barnsley (A) Matchday Thread
I don’t think we missed him. There was not much wrong with the midfield last night. We didnt have a forward line to speak of, we had a Captain as limp as a fortnight old lettuce, and a normally solid enough defence who last night on two occasions went on their holidays.

Is this a joke…85th minute if you were there you could clearly see our players were shattered after a massive effort both defending and attacking. As for another game I never saw us scoring comment we were incredibly unlucky at Preston hitting bar, shots blocked, good saves and 2 penalty decisions going against us.Our players don’t need to bring more to table there effort is admirable in the current circumstances

Interesting how polarizing of a figure Lawrence still is. Finds himself in the bottom of some people's ratings and top in others. I thought he looked excellent tonight.

I'm not talking about shots, it's his decision making. Poor passes, cul de sac runs, backing out of challenges.

dcfc4ever reacted to GangwayD in Stories of being in the ‘Home’ End
Mate of mine want to Marseille and described it identically as you have plus the running battles on the beach with locals, although he had tickets in the England end. His first game I think, but didn't put him off. Was amazed the Russia game was not moved from Marseille.
I was certainly at the Lincoln game you mentioned but was in the away end and you could actually see it all kicking off from within the ground as the DLF made their way to Sincil Bank. I understand they'd planned to go in the home end but had been clearly clocked by the Old Bill.
Someone mentioned in this thread about being in the Man United home end. Not sure but wonder if it was the game the same day as Hillsborough . In those days you we're kept in to let Home fans disperse. We'd won and we we're giving the seats behind the away terrace grief as they left and about 4 lads we're mouthing to us "We're Derby". They'd not been rumbled, but it didn't help when we all started singing and pointing at them 'Derby, Derby'. To ensure they missed the greeting party when they left they must have told the Coppers as I noticed the same lads in the Police escort laughing about all what had just happened.
I recall Rotherham away late 80's when clearly a few Derby went in the home terrace opposite the away end. They clearly made themselves known and the whole terrace opened up to leave them in the middle. It was a mexican stand off and the Police came in. to escort them round to our end,. We watched it from the away end amazed at the brass neck of these lads.
Cheers

Let’s sell everyone, get relegated with a new owner and manager and let’s start again!
The club is toxic and the likes of Lawrence, Rooney, and Morris are at the core! The fact Lawrence has been given the captains armband says it all!
The likes of Norwich are what we need to look at! Delia Smith has nowhere near the wealth of Mel Morris, however they have managed to evolve by ridding the likes of Hoolahan, Howson, and Johnson, and started a fresh with a new manager, with a forward thinking sporting director. And when I look at us who do we bring in……. Steve Mac!
Cmon we deserve better than this!!

Got to love some of the strategic thinkers on here.
Were massively short of attacking players. Hmmm let’s sell one who carries a goal threat because we can spend it on someone better! Double yay!!
Except we can’t can we? We can’t even use it to supplement a better wage offer to free agents.
Actually we’ve weakened ourself. Made relegation even more likely. And can’t effect any positive change to the squad.
I’d trust my tramp to run Derby better than some of of the posters on here ??

If true and WBA are interested I would get rid in a flash. Absolutely for me one of the worst signings we have made. What has he ever realistically done in a Derby shirt? Persistently inconsistent, thinks he is Ronaldo and tries knuckle balls from about 60 yards out that are hopeless. Has no pace, constantly fouls and gets carded. He is rubbish, a fraud.
The fact he is our captain now is also ludicrous, it makes no sense at all. I have never ever ever seen any captain qualities, quite the opposite in fact. I bet he is one of our top earners as well as he came when Mel was throwing money about. He’s had one decent half a season at Ipswich… what has he done prior and since that? Nothing. Cash in and use the money for what ever is needed. Jesus this club is a shambles.

Comes across well in this. Said all the right things, bit of banter with the kid, etc.
I truly hope he does well - not just because I like him as a player - but because Derby NEEDS a strong captain right now with the way things are.

dcfc4ever reacted to RoyMac5 in Captain Tom Lawrence
"Some of the group were surprised at the selection. That is not to say they were not on board with it, just that they felt there were more natural leaders at the club. They were intrigued as to how Lawrence would motivate the squad on and off the pitch, with some hoping he would become more vocal.
Importantly, Lawrence does have the respect of his team-mates and coaches. As Rooney said after the 2-1 friendly defeat to Manchester United a few weeks ago, the Welshman had become a leader in the changing room following his return from injury in late March."
