Ambitious got a reaction from jono in Max Bird
He’s not been given a proper run of games, but what I really like the bits I’ve seen. I think he has a lot of potential, it wasn’t long ago most people had him down with Nyambe and Nelson as our best signing of the summer.
Bird, I feel, gives us too many 6/10 games. He isn’t impactful enough. No doubt he’s a technically good footballer and he obviously is a great character around the club. He’s a good player for us, no doubt, but it wouldn’t be difficult for us to sell him and improve the side IMO. Similarly to losing Knight, ironically, the guy we picked up as part of the deal has come in and been much improved on the Knight we saw and had last season.

I would be fairly relaxed with allowing Bird to leave for funds to spend.
He’s a good player technically, but has absolutely struggled to consistently to provide an impact for us. I’ve really like Fornah from what I’ve seen and honestly don’t believe we would lose much, if anything, losing Bird to give him more game time.

Ambitious got a reaction from SKRam in Derby v Peterborough
This is true, division 3 football is poorly funded and the standard is therefore reflective. A lot of the players at this level are simply just trying to carve out a career and a huge proportion will fail in that regard.
Peterborough have scouted well, brought in players with ability and can compete with the likes of ourselves. Credit to them and Darren Ferguson who has done a very good job.

Bad performance, impactful result.
We now have a decent run of fixtures - 10 wins from our next 14 games would set us up nicely.

I think that’s by design as Fornah and Bird more than fit that mould.

Statement win.
Daft penalty, followed by an excellent free kick. Away at a top six rival, a team who had already beaten us this season and we were absolutely relentless in getting ourselves back into the game which wasn’t easy as they defended for their lives.
It’s easy to unravel in that situation, but probably showed how far we’ve come recently and probably gives the players confidence that they can come from behind regardless of the circumstances and opposition!

Ambitious got a reaction from LincsRam in Jonson Clarke-Harris - Joined Rotherham
Smith.. as in Korey Smith? You hammer a ton of players, not always incorrectly I’ll add, but him being one you like surprises me. He runs around doing the square root of nothing. At best he ticks away, but if we ever needed him to step up and win a game then we’d be waiting a long, long, long time.
Two goals and 18 assists in the last ten seasons for a player who I wouldn’t even say is a defensive midfielder.

Ambitious got a reaction from David Graham Brown in You are a legend Mr Clowes. Now, please plan for the next stage
Bournemouth, Fulham and Brighton spent a ton of money to get promoted. All of which is well documented. Palace were highly competitive in terms of finances too. Palace had a lower revenue than us the season they got promoted but spent 150% of our wage bill to put it into context.
Burnley (first promotion) and Luton were Cinderella stories but then you’re considering two in almost 20 years, so 60 promotions.
Money is no guarantee, of course, but not having it guarantees a ceiling to your success over time. It’s no surprise that Rotherham are in the bottom three, for example, whilst Leicester are top of the league. It might be that Leicester are a better run club or it could be due to their additional £100m in wages - difficult to say.

Unless people suddenly stop watching football there will never be any danger of it failing. The projections at the very top level make the current situation look modest.
