I don’t think in the 50s and 60s you’d have heard anything like the Billy Sharp chants, or chants insulting players’ wives. And anyway, there are a few time honoured rituals that have rightly fallen out of favour.
I think the club should take a stronger stance against offensive chants. Not least because last season showed us what an impact positive support has on the pitch

It’s not an easy one. I’m all for a certain sort of offensive goading chants .. but some, as you suggest, go beyond and break certain moral rules in my book. When they are grossly personal or as we have mentioned before race/faith/child abuse/disabilities.
The difficult thing is who writes the rules ? Who defines what is offensive. Will all references to someone being a self abuser be disapproved of ? Will the work Duck be banned ? How does one signify disapproval of a serial diver or injury faker “I say old boy, it can’t be that bad, play the game” ?
It is a battle and insults (within bounds) are to my mind essential. Sport has forever been a way to stop people going to war for real. The catharsis of a match in a pulsing stadium satisfies our lizard brains and keeps worse things at bay.

There's a movie scene of our takeover process.

The German bomber song makes me shudder with embarrassment don't these idiots chanting this realise the war ended 77 years ago.

Birmingham fans were happily chanting about us dying again today. I think it's fair game to chant back at them, personally.

I thought about this, but I still don’t feel comfortable with it. We don’t need to stoop down to their level.

What Cam Smith did yesterday is a thing of absolute legend - five birdies in a row is just insane. Hard to be too tough on Rory, he went round in under par every round but he was five and six shots of the two Cams on the last day, and you can't be that far off and expect to win. @kevinhectoring is right, it was the putting that made the difference but I think it's also fair to have history say that it was the number one putter on the tour, Cam Smith, that did it rather than Rory fluffed his lines.
For me, shot of the day was Cam Young on 18, to eagle it after nothing had been happening much all day, rookie in your first Open, leapfrog into second. Wow!

Maybe that’s it but he’ll know what others have signed up to - and he’s no spring chicken you’d think he’d be realistic. Wondered whether we need to sell someone before we can sign him within the business plan.

This seems right - Q went out of their way at one stage to state that SP had been very helpful to them. I suspect Pearce regrets not standing up to MM

Agree with this. We knew how MM meddled in the football side of things with him entering the dressing room, drones, etc. And that’s the side of the business he arguably knows very little about. When it come to the more business and finance side that he does know something about (or maybe not) I can imagine it was his way or no way. MM got rid of all other board members so it was just him with little challenge. And that’s not a healthy way to run a business.
Since we went into administration I’ve wondered how much Pearce was to blame and the fact that Quantuma kept him around, and now DC, makes me think he was just following orders. If he has a weakness, it’s probably that he’s too much of a yes man.

kevinhectoring reacted to RadioactiveWaste in Wiil you be disappointed if we finish outside the top 2???
No, top 6 is ok.
it's ging to be tough. tougher than you all think.
-
kevinhectoring reacted to ramit in Wiil you be disappointed if we finish outside the top 2???
A team being basically built from scratch will need room to become a cohesive unit and yes experienced players will also need time. As the season goes on i expect some players to adapt to the team quicker, or better than others.
In short, a mid table finish would be a good first season for me, top 2 would be extraordinary but am not expecting it.

Absolutely not, but I think I would be if we didn't manage a top 6 finish.

Because if you have an interim manager you’d normally be out looking for a permanent. Think this says: we’re not looking for anyone just now, Liam has earned the right to show whether he deserves the manager badge.
seems very sensible.
