well one thing Hourihane IS good at is getting in the referee’s face which sadly is a big part of the role these days. 
As well instituting a crazy process, Warne instituted it too soon. The new arrivals are still getting their boots under their desks and friendlies are very different to the weekly grind  Should have waited 5 or 6 games before that vote
Perhaps it will increase Hourihane’s consistency of effort in which case it will prove an excellent choice  If it doesn’t it will become a problem

I think we’ll see a more consistent and therefore more effective player this season - last season it was noticeable that he got better as he played more games. Early on he was quite a way off the pace because he simply wasn’t fit enough - hardly surprising as he’d been a bit-part player before he joined us and then had a very short pre-season. This year he should be far better prepared for the rigours of a tough (and long) season and I’d expect to see that on the pitch….

I think we've been too nice on the field for far too long. Refs find it incredibly easy to give dodgy decisions against us, and not give us obvious decisions. Whether it's in the ref's face or in his ear, Conor is the only one of last season's team who was prepared to step up in this regard and question the ref and put some amount of pressure on him. And, because of that, I can see this is a good appointment. Let him do it officially, with the armband. It's something we badly need.

He doesn't have to. Club captain isn't the one who runs around the most, shouts the most or is the most aggressive. 
It's the one who sets an example on attitude and behaviour in training, personal life and games.
The players, most of who worked with him last season, think Conor is that person.

... and, no, I'm not saying PW is a 2nd BC. He does, however, have a Sports Science Degree and sports psychology is part of that. He is currently doing his Master's in Advanced Sports Nutrition. The bloke will know how far to push honesty and when/where to go all psychological on a player. He has said he tells all potential signings they aren't guaranteed a starting place. IMO he's right to tell them that.

why have the players picked the captain?  It’s daft. (They may well have picked Fozzie whom they all no doubt love and respect but on field captain is not his thing. )
Warne should pick the on field captain - off field as well if we have two. It’s an important decision and part of his job. I don’t think he liked the idea of telling Hourihane that he is not suitable

But if that is his approach and we do go up, we’ll need a new manager and that won’t happen quickly. So most likely we’d have a season or two languishing in the nether regions of the championship before he’s replaced

think he’ll get a lot stronger too over the next 3 years.  For him, another season in Div1 will be a good thing I reckon
