Round pegs in round holes. Our midfield isn’t balanced and we are failing to score goals when we have total control of games.

Korey Smith has struggled in midfield - his fitness is questionable and he’s attracted the lowest average ratings in the entire squad after 4 games.

There’s an obvious solution - find/buy/borrow a full back and put Knight in his natural position.

Football is a simple game, made complex by chaps who want to justify having spent a lot of time getting their coaching badges.

The team needs Knight in midfield. Simple as that.

Obviously we want Knight in midfield but that’s not the only solution. Sibley instead of Smith, or a slight shift in positioning with Didzy instead of Smith would both massively improve the pedestrian nature of our attacking.

  2. Fact of the matter at the moment is that Bird, Hourihane and Smith simply don’t work as a midfield trio. They all want it to feet, want to come short to the ball, want to play it relatively simple and recycle possession. None of them want to make runs, carry the ball, beat a man, and only Hourihane wants to get a shot off. Sibley, therefore, has to start unless Didzy comes in instead for one of them. We’ve only remotely looked dangerous in the games I’ve seen (Oxford, Barnsley and Shrewsbury) when Sibley has been on the pitch. The sooner Rosenior realises this trio doesn’t work the better.

It was a good ball, and he needs to be more consistent with assists. At the mo. the coaching team clearly have more interest in keeping a good shape and ball retention, expecting Collins, NML and Barks to create and score sufficiently. We are still in catch-up mode fitness wise, and they clearly do not fancy as yet Sibley to make a contribution in such away games. If we have the same first half, with the same players, as we did at Charlton, we will hopefully have a nice lead come half time.

He literally gets 20 mins or starts and is subbed off. He is given impossibly high standards and is never afforded a run in the team. If he doesn’t score or assist he doesn’t sniff the pitch the next game again. It’s ridiculous.
