That journo is pretty reliable isn't he? Only really makes sense as a Collins upgrade. If he can head, hold it up, lay it off and is quicker than Collins (surely everyone is?) And on a free or minimal, then makes sense this season. I'm just hoping for the younger, inknown quantity, with raw but possibly potential, like a Bonis. And a pace monster.
I wouldn't say he's right every time, by any stretch, but he is a legitimate journalist.

Knight & Twine? Almost the same age, similar position, target for championship clubs, fee comparison this year Vs last year so no massive inflation. What makes it irrelevant out of interest? Can you elaborate.
Many many Championship appearances, international starter, length of contract left

Aaron Collins (Bristol Rovers)
Top half of the table for goals and assists last season
Don't think you'd be getting him for any less than £3m the way they seem to rate him

Beyond the fact they're both League 1 players, none of that is relevant or comparable.

Depending on what goes on at Ipswich, I wonder if Ladapo would become a viable target for us. They’re moving to sign Ellis Simms for £4-5m and will probably bring Hirst back. In a team that plays with one striker, he’s probably going to be relegated to third choice.
Played for Warne before, too. Wouldn't spend anything decent on him though given his age. But would have him.

Never heard of Bolched and Nongy.
The obvious missing one is 'Cob'.

Got a bit of time for their fans. They were very staunch in their support of us when times were darkest for the club. Even when we beat them at their place, they were applauding our lads and singing f*** the EFL with our lot. Good few online were hugely complimentary about our away support too. It was heartwarming and uplifting stuff when it was needed and it won't be forgotten in a hurry.
I think there's a large majority of Derby fans agree with this!

I don’t think many WANT to dump our own players. I think Knight and Bielik are 2 of our best players. That if they stayed fit, especially in Bieliks case could drive this club forward. Unfortunately they’re 2 players that can generate funds to bring in other players that we need in areas we don’t have ie forwards.
I added Bird as a don’t think just selling those 2 will generate enough to fill the gaps we need to, from the information and players that have been mentioned. And with them all only having 1 year left on the contracts a decision needs to be made, to either cash in or extend to protect the clubs assets. Out of the 3 I believe Bird will bring the least amount as compensation as the other 2 are internationals.
Bird, Hourihane, Thommo and Smith can all do a similar job, so you could move any of them on, but I haven’t heard anything about anyone, bar a tentative rumour that Hull are interested in Bird, so it was his name I added being in funds to fill the forward gaps mentioned above.
If we got £3-4m for Bielik and Knight that is more than enough to fill the gaps we have at this level. We should not be spending, for example, £1m on a single player in this league. It's just not necessary. And if we are doing, that's the type of spending which got us in this mess to begin with.
Now I know Transfermarkt can be taken with a pinch of salt, but one quick look shows Sunderland spent circa £500k across the two summers prior to promotion. It just shows you, you really shouldn't be spending silly money. £1m at this level should be 3 or 4 really good players at the least.

The rumour about Sonny Bradley coming to Derby been very quiet recently has anybody heard anything? Or it was just that a rumour that won't happen?
Agent talk I would guess. Big Trav the oracle said no.

Seem to be a few people coming out with the "I told you so" story. That said, it does sound like OceanGate may have been somewhat gung-ho in their approach to deep sea navigation, cashing in on rich adventurers rather than ensuring their sub was fit for purpose. Constant stresses at that depth have a cumulative effect on hull integrity. A sub that was used to go to the Mariana Trench not long ago, designed to cope with pressures at that depth (nearly 7 miles down), won't ever be used to go that deep again as the owners don't want to risk it. Somewhat telling me thinks.
Was reading some information last night about the hull. It was carbon fibre, which was very risky and lead to one of the leaders of the company leaving when he wasn't listened to. Basically, the claim was made that there's no equipment in existence that could pressure test the carbon fibre to the level required, so their answer was to fit a system which would detect when catastrophic failure was imminent (which is pointless, because it's too late). Any imperfections in shape etc would be multiplied to the Nth degree at those depths.

I think it was QPR away under Rooney during the Covid season that Bird played a slightly more advanced role and looked excellent. I’ve said a few times if we play a 3 in midfield, I’d like to see Bird and Hourihane ahead of someone else as the anchor (Smith now we have Ward at rwb) and if we play a 2 man midfield I don’t know that there needs to be an anchor with the 3 cbs.
As has been said, that would be too slow. I'd like Bird and 2 new players (or Bird and Knight, and a new player) but I don't think we'll get that unfortunately.

9 hours ago, Ambitious said:Plus, as I keep banging the drum, we’re well covered with Knight regards to a tribunal - it should be one of the highest ever paid out based on the criteria. If we keep him, we probably are no worse off than selling him this season - it’s just if we want the money upfront and what is on the table. It looks like £1.5-2m which is almost exactly what I expect a tribunal to pay out. I’d imagine Derby and teams have done their homework.

I agree Roy, Bird splits opinion with the fans it seems but I’m a fan. I think he’s got a calmness and maturity about him, plenty of his teammates and managers speak highly of him, and he’s shown at times he can play a killer pass and score (just not often enough). I think once pre-season is done, in the setup Warne decides for the team (a back 3 more than likely which may not need screening as much) we might see Bird start to deliver more goals and assists as cm’s did in his Rotherham teams.
Bird is better when there’s someone else anchoring and he hasn’t got to do it. No coincidence his best few months in a Derby shirt were with Bielik playing the role he usually has to.

Also, sadly seems that we were the only club to ever value bielik at £10m!
Good footballer but we all know his injury issues.
Am not sure knight was ever worth £10m. The £2m expected now seems cheap but would think £4/5m was his highest ever value.
Probably some of that in there too. Very good player but £10m out of league one was silly.

Doesn’t seem too long ago where Bielik and Knight would fetch £20m combined. That we now consider £4m as excellent business shows something has seriously gone wrong in their development.
What a disingenuous statement. Actual reasons...
Knight -
- 1 year left on his contract
- Potentially doesn't want to be here
- Wasn't particularly great last season, albeit has consistently been good for Ireland
- We're a league one club, we don't have the option to hold onto players we once had if solid money is offered
Bielik -
- 2 ACL Injuries
- Doesn't want to be here
- We can't afford his wages to keep him here
- 1 year left on his contract
Add this to the backdrop of what has happened to the club as a whole and it's obvious. It's extremely short-sighted to draw a straight line between £1m for Bielik = development is the problem.

Twitter chat is that Bielik to Birmingham is close to being done. Perhaps that opens the door for an incoming striker?
Not sure that’s just twitter chat, a couple of actual journalists have said that. I think if we can raise £3-4m on Knight and Bielik combined then that will definitely help. I’m certainly of the mind that it will take a bit longer to get some of the attacking pieces in place because they’re more likely to cost money.
