    212-4 against Yorkshire

From 49-3 and looking in all sorts of trouble, Haider Ali 59, du Plooy 66 not out and Guest 39 not out

Including 5 sixes off the last over, 3 for du Plooy and 2 for Guest. Remarkable second half to that innings.

Still very gettable. Ground is so small.

Reading were in some sort of embargo when they were allowed to sign Andy Carroll.

In the same season they were given a 9 point deduction, with 3 of those suspended.

Almost like the EFL wanted us relegated

Well forgetting that for a minute, it’s not like they’re gonna be spending any money is it?

That’s a bad take. Let’s look at what was actually said rather than another heavily opinionated assumption

    Wanted:

“We need the players that can play in the league above and have got a bit of experience
I want the players that will make big sacrifices and are fully determined for success.

We need players that are prepared to learn and believe in the team more than themselves.

They have to be good footballers, good athletes and they have to buy into the way we play, the way we press and the energy we want from a team.

Also and this is a lot different to a lot of teams in our league - they have to be able to play in front of 30,000 people.

It's a psychology more than a physicality for me. I'm not here to break players but I am here to push boundaries and to try and get more out of the team.

We're trying to make them physically resilient for a 10 month season but a lot of that comes from mentality.

From that, hopefully you can build a squad and a team that are exciting to watch.”

    Ignore how Warne says things and look at what he’s actually saying, he wants hard working and capable footballers who know what it means to play for this club and will put the team effort above themselves, what about that is such a bad thing?! From those quotes I’d say it’s more like;

Wanted - football players with the ability and mentality to play for a well supported club planning to push for promotion. Must understand this is a team sport and all members of the squad will play a part in shared success. The plan is that the team will play with a high press, which means physicality and athleticism will be part of our identity as will playing an exciting brand of football. Ability to put up with manager’s rubbish jokes and constant pestering are an added desirable requirement.

    You’re reasoning with the unreasonable.

A massive team is not necessarily expensive. Otherwise most teams wouldn’t have more than 18 players, which is clearly not the case. And I don’t mean a massive Forest Esque squad anyway, clearly that’s stupid, I just mean a regular sized squad bigger than the paper thin one we had last year.

Nobody is saying spend loads of money on backup players. But they do need to be there. Otherwise when injuries hit  (and they will), we’ll be ducked. The U21 team doesn’t exist.

Relative to the rest of the league, we’re not poor. We’re not financially struggling to compete.

Just hunch here but could be an element of not wanting to hand out 3 year contracts to players who are only on the bench in league one when we don’t want to still be here then.

If we want to keep him..he costs £20k per week..basically £1m for the season...if we dont want to keep him, we need to sell him for as much as possible..not just to Birmingham because John Eustace likes him!

Lets face it, he is an International footballer and shouldn't be playing in League One!..as much as i would like him to stay.

Just don’t know what we are going to get realistically. Everyone knows he doesn’t want to be here and we can’t afford him either. Equally, with glass knees and 1 year left he’s not going to be worth a lot. Best we can hope for is a small bidding war but realistically he will go for peanuts or back on loan before going on a free.

In his interview on RamsTV, PW hinted at 4 or 5 in before pre season and the rest spread over the transfer window. He also hinted at a squad of 20 to 22. Small? Yes. Too small? 21 was too small last season.

Does this point to some exits being just about guaranteed? Looks that way. Bielik obviously. Who else is saleable? Bird, Knight, Sibs?

I’d say Bielik and Knight are the two that almost certain to go. Last season’s squad was small and it was made up of players that were borderline unusable too, so if it’s similar sized with all of them legitimate choices it will feel a lot better. Would I prefer a couple more? Probably, but we are still only just coming back to life from where we were.

Surely that must be the Peterborough retained list from last year.

The first name on there that caught my eye was Jack Marriott as a retained
player, but he joined Fleetwood Town on a permanent deal in January 2023 -

    https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jack-marriott/profil/spieler/268746

On the available for Transfer list is Mark Beevers but he joined Perth Glory
on a permanent deal in July 2022 -

    https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/mark-beevers/profil/spieler/46744

Also on the available for Transfer list is Ryan Broom, but he joined Cheltenham Town
on a permanent deal in September 2022 -

    https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ryan-broom/profil/spieler/380029

On the Released list is Dai Cornell, but he joined Preston on a permanent deal
    in July 2022 -

    https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/david-cornell/profil/spieler/89648

Those were 4 names on the list that I was sure were a bit iffy for a current 2023 List,
but I can't be bothered to check all the names on there.

You’re right. Jorge Grant been up in Scotland for a year.

In that Warne interview wasn't he talking about firstly 'catching' the three teams that finished above us last season? Well if so that means he's aiming for 1st or 2nd.

Of course he is, and he should. I’m just saying if the only way you’re going to support the manager is after he’s finished 1st then you maybe being a little unreasonable.

Warne gives an interview highlighting a number of good things and answering a number of concerns present in the fan base, so of course the natural thing is to jump on one of the things he says to draw out the negatives over any positives.

He has admitted the failure to strengthen last season’s squad was part of why we failed, last season’s squad was imbalanced with plenty of depth in some areas and none in others. If he’s able to recruit a more balanced squad with the right players, more of whom are at the peak age bracket, able to play in the way he wants them to, how do you know the squad of 20-22 wouldn’t work for promotion next season? After all it’s worked for Warne and his staff on 3 previous occasions hasn’t it?

Was going to say something similar.

Basically, if you’re of a positive or neutral disposition, you will have liked the interview. If you’re anti-Warne already then it’s going to have done very little. And let’s face it, we could win the title this year and the anti-warners would pick fault with the style of play or some other nonsense.
