Rice will improve Arsenals first XI, not sure on Havertz or where he will fit in their system. However, both improve the squad quality overall which is where Arsenal fell apart in the latter stages of last season. A couple of injuries to key players and the replacements weren’t good enough to sustain the title push.

A lot of money, obviously, but two great players for Arsenal. Rice immediately solidifies that midfield and is far, far better than Jorginho. Havertz hasn't set it alight for Chelsea but he has so much talent. Was a huge fan of him in Germany and I'd back his best football to come.

For around an hour in that last session England were playing reckless cricket not aggressive cricket amazingly it took Stokes to come in to calm things down. I enjoy the aggressive intent we play with but for a while it was ridiculous we were slogging at everything

Sums it up. There’s a difference between playing aggressive and just being dumb.

Another reason why I suspect we are trying hard for Wes Harding

Only issue with that is the height of our centre backs. We’d have the tallest at 6ft, and the other two not even that.

On the striker front who do we think we’ll get in?

    Knibbs - Going Reading
    May - Going Gillingham
    Sam Smith?
JCH - Can’t see us being able to afford him
    Bonis?

Don’t think we’ve been linked with anyone else. Does anybody have any gems up their sleeve?

Well players we have signed haven’t come from Journalist links. So, I would guess it’s likely some of the 5ish players we are yet to sign haven’t been linked anywhere.

Knight not there due to additional time off following international duty and NML currently at the gold cup. All other players there including Chester who continues his rehab.

Wonder if we'll kick him out tomorrow as his contract will be up

CB - First 11 RCB. Rooney backup RCB, Forsyth backup CB and LCB
WB - Hard to tell if this will be RWB or LWB, and whether they'll also cover the opposite flank or CB.
    2/3 attacking players - 1 SS, plus 1 or 2 CFs
Midfield - no one joining unless we sell

Would say it would be RWB. We have Forsyth and potentially Sibley would could do LWB. Smith (badly) the only one who could the right.

Was probably between him and Washington at a guess, having both would give you two new forwards who aren’t (or don’t seem to be) massive goal threats.

Washington more of a known quantity but Knibbs probably with more potential upside. With a limited budget it makes sense to go with what Warne knows I guess, and assume Washington will be done soon.

Knibbs doesn't play as a traditional striker. For Cambridge, that was Sam Smith.

Barnsley being sent to the MLS?

What with that and the Rovrum 'New York' Stadium... something funny in t'water up there.

Barnsley and Rotherham are the same club. South Yorkshire Reds from Pro Evo. Never in the same league, never to play each other. Swapping Championship and League One places every other year.

Some people tend to remember the bad ones and not the good ones, and then it can seem like a waste of time.

It's only a few years since Mount, Tomori and Wilson nearly got a fairly average squad (with a fairly naive manager) into the Premier League.

A squad which when from 6th...

    *checks notes*

    .. to 6th.

    DerbyEnglandLoyal, DEL for short.

I liked him, you could subtlety probe away without him taking offence, although I believe he went somewhat off piste towards the end.

Still in charge of that Facebook group where Every Word Of Every Post Starts With A Capital Letter isn’t he?

Watford are giving supporters the option of the new shirt with or without the sponsor. Perhaps we're doing similar, though as said, this would surely have financial implications on us.

Also note their sponsor is an online Casino.

No, it's the players and the club they're sponsoring.

For their logo to be worn by players on the pitch - and to been see on TV and in the media.

They don't care what your or I wear.

Why argue against fans having the choice?

I’m not arguing against it. I’m just telling you facts that advertisers are paying for reach and awareness - and yes I have studied it.

Now, I can’t tell you how football sponsorship is structured. But logic dictates less eyes = less money.

Take a hypothetical scenario… your missus might know nothing about football. Might not care, not ever watch it on TV. But when she sees a shirt that you’ve bought with the new Airbnb on it, she might just recall that when booking your next getaway. That’s how it works.

You’re limiting your reach severely if you’re not having your name on replica shirts. And to do that, I’m sure they’d want financial allowances made in whatever deal they sign.

I doubt they care if some random guy down the street has their logo?

Of course they do. They’re paying for advertising reach. If they reach less people, they’re paying less money.

It’s like paying for a slot on tv during prime time on ITV or paying for for 2am on some channel no one has ever heard of.

I understand that players will wear large sponsor logos on their shirts.

But fans should have the choice to buy an unsponsored version, if they like.

Personally I think they look better without them - and are they're more wearable in everyday life.

If you don't agree - you can buy one of the sponsored versions - no problem.

It’s kinda what a sponsor is paying for though, in many cases. Sponsorship would be worth less if they don’t get thousands of random people wearing billboards.

This one probably depends on playing guarantees. I doubt we could guarantee him to start every game, someone like Charlton might. He’s just had a very good season at Leyton Orient, I wouldn’t be surprised if he would favour staying in London.

Warne has been very clear about guaranteeing new signings nothing regarding playing time so that is certainly a given on our part.
