In fact Smith for Nyambe. Finally the dynamic exciting attacking substitution we were all hoping for.

It's also looks like a 'fight fire with fire' approach which isn't necessarily the best way to go. But we will see.

You, and Warne, may be absolutely right Crewton. 3 points is the target and I hope we get them, but this is another game that doesn’t bode well for any decent football. As well as packing our back line with sturd, we again seem very happy to concede midfield before a ball is kicked.  Enjoy the game. I will save my money for tomorrows highlights package.

The Paul Warne "Out Out" and "Pro" topics have been locked in favour of a single place for discussions.
    This is it.
I would ask members to refrain from opening any further topics with in/out or similar in the title and continue to post their opinions in here, regardless of result/league position.

Exeter gave a really good account of themselves. They played some nice passing football, kept us on the back foot for large spells but never capitalised at any point. They are so very evidently a young side with a lot to learn. A more streetwise team would have run us ragged tonight.
All of our added experience shone through in the end. We were calm, collected, and absolutely surgical on the counter attack. Wildsmith, Nelson, Adams, Bird, Mendez Laing, Barkhuizen and Collins all played important roles in differing ways. Mendez-Laing in particular caused all kinds of problems when we got him into areas where he can hurt the opposition.
All in all, it won’t have got the purists doing laps of their living room, but going to an in-form side on the up and full of confidence and one who had beaten Peterborough only a week prior and delivering an incredibly mature and professional away performance is honestly something Warne and the players deserve massive credit for.

No. He is showing what he can do now that Warne is starting to use midfield more, and enabling Bird to play to his strengths. Having a 2-man midfield and then by-passing it was never going to be good for midfield footballers.

Wait - you mean there are restrictions on how many passes we can take before we lump it aimlessly forward?

My personal view is that any EFL restrictions are not materially more onerous than the budgets David clowes is prepared to fund anyway.
But we'll see in the summer....

vonwright reacted to Ghost of Clough in Has DC lost faith in the recruitment process?
The process used for this season will need to be overhaulled. 12 summer signings and a further 2 in January, of which only 3 are likely to be regular starters is absolutely shocking (Nelson, Nyambe, Blackett-Taylor). This is also after the squad failed to place top last season, losing 3 of our first 11 (Roberts, Knight and McGoldrick) and not even having a right back in the entire squad.
It's summarised by having no long term vision. That's in terms of: a) bringing in younger players who will either maintain their current standards for longer, or have room for improvement; or b) planning how the players will fit into the team.
Warne put a clear focus on older and more experience players, based on the rationale of higher wages equates to better players. If more budget is put towards the wages, we'll end up with a stronger squad of players.
Warne also had no plan on how to fit the players into the team. This is demonstrated by early summer recruitment being with 3421 in mind, which quickly changed to 352, and then alternating between 442 and 4231 during the season so far. We signed a LB (Elder) to play as a wing back, but also signed Nyambe (RB) after already signing 2 wing backs. He also signed a slow CB who cannot play in a high line and is uncomfortable on the ball under pressure. We've basically got through from October with only 1 fully fit forward whowas 2nd choice last season and failed to improve on in the summer AND January.
The style of play our CF targets prefer also varied. Summer targets like Harris, Rhodes and Sharp all have different strengths and weaknesses. Similar with January targets such as Smith, Gregory, Mubama, Ennis. It's just a scattergun approach all round. Most of these targets compromise on the high intensity press Warne wants to implement too.

I don't know what point you;re trying to make here. I was also critical of our signings in the past. I even gave an example earlier today when we had Forsyth, Malone, Olsson and Cole all contracted on permanent deals when we had Lowe on the fringes and Buchanan only 1 season away from his club debut. At one point we owned Evans, Johnson, Bryson, Butterfield, Holmes, Thorne, Ledley and Huddlestone (as well as loaning in Mount and King in) - we knew we had Bird, Knight and Sibley coming through, as well as Elsnik who was at least a level above them all at that moment in time.
The circustances were also different, particularly under Cocu and Rooney, when the number of players we could sign was limited - only 5 in 21/22, and had a wage limit roughly a third of what we can now spend, whilst balancing it against only 7 outfielders over the age of 23. It ddin't make sense to sign more players aroudn the 20 year mark when that wasn't what our squad needed. The other major factor during this period was the number of youths coming through which negated the need to sign young players from other clubs. This isn't something you can credit to Rotherham.

You recently told me I couldn't possibly presume that players like Bradley and Ward are on good money, because I haven't seen their contracts.
Yet you seem to be very certain about the limits of our budget and terms of our restrictions.

I think if the “restrictions” were particularly prohibitive the club should simply not come out and say they made a very good offer for a striker.
That way they can actually blame the “restrictions” without it looking like an excuse for being woefully underprepared and / or deleting every number in their phones except Dejphon Chansiri’s.

To be fair to Bird he doesn't seem the type to give less than 100% - and especially to us. Plus why does he need to avoid injury? He's already secured the move, he's only here on loan

Best midfielder at the club. Leaving as won't sign a new contract. Good fee. Keep the player for the rest of the season.
He came through the ranks, stood by us when we were on our arse, does his best, good egg arond the place, getting a bigger wage in a higher division, club doesn't lose out.
Max Bird comes out well, Derby County come out well.
Moaners, please shush. I'm embarrassed by you.

Last season, par would have been the playoffs and we failed. This season par is automatic promotion. The playoffs would be failure, even if we still managed to scramble up (in which case the failure is not considered too bad).
To "slide out of the playoffs" this year would be catastrophic.

We brought in upwards of 6 players in the summer with either an injury joining or have been heavily injury prone in the past. Tell me where the smart management is in that? Why keep harping on in interviews that you want pace power and athletism and to bring the age down and then go out and look at players who’s profile are the complete opposite and older than what we already? Instead of spouting the warne fault blah blah at least validate your point!

granted cbt fits the profile but Gregory certainly doesn’t and is a player I really don’t like the look of injury record wise and last time was here had there season cut short by February having only joined in January

3 years ago and had a couple of injuries since then. Wednesday fans don't like him either and say his legs are gone.
Incredibly uninspiring. Warne specifically said we were looking abroad at players, yet come the end of the window we're looking at ANOTHER Wednesday player, over the age of 30 and on big money.
What's the scouting department doing? Or is Warne ignoring them?
Looking at Thomas' signings for Oxford, there's absolutely no correlation.
