An interesting debate.  There are times in the past when I’ve thought about not renewing but I have, not necessarily because of the football but, as others have said, the day itself.  Meeting your mates, few beers and a bit of a laugh.  I’ve renewed for this year and will get excited once August comes round.
That said, the last year has made me take stock a bit.  I guess I’m becoming a bit disillusioned with professional football at the top levels - champ and prem.  It can be difficult to get to some games, particularly midweek and Sky mess about with so many moving games to Friday night and Saturday lunchtime, which is also a bit tricky.  And when you see the money in the Premier League and the struggles lower down it a bit disheartening.  We all know the situation we’re in and chasing the dream and spending big back in 2015/16 hasn’t helped that.  And situations like Macclesfield, Wigan, Bury and there are probably many more too show that it’s quickly becoming unsustainable, if it isn’t already.  And the gap is widening.  There’s been lots of debate about the relegated clubs and the level of parachute payments making it easy for them to go straight back up and it’s a valid point.  Before too long it’ll be a virtual closed shop - the three coming down will keep going back up.
I am seriously thinking I might enjoy watching my local non-league team instead.  The quality and atmosphere won’t be as good but it won’t be about the money, it’ll be closer to a level playing field, 3:00 kick off on a Saturday afternoon and I might feel like I’m helping out where it counts. Will that mean I’ll care any less about The Rams? Absolutely not!!  Will it mean I won’t go to some games I want to and know I’ll be able to attend?  Of course it won’t.  It’ll just be a personal choice based on my frustrations with how the game is run.  Sorry for the long post!!

Football is more than watching a game. You can do that on TV. But it’s the match day experience for me. Many a time the game is incidental but sometimes it’s all consuming. Meet your mates or go with family it’s where memories are made and if you don’t by a ticket what have you got?
What else are you going to do on a cold Tuesday night in February?

had a lot to put up with it seems with the whole Keogh fiasco and a squad short of top quality when he took over but think he helped our youngsters a lot
really wanted him to succeed here but think the whole Rooney thing helped derail things ….I wish the bloke every success in the future

Why are some folk so unable, unwilling or both, to assimilate a few simple facts concerning these charges? It's no small wonder that fans from other clubs have a poor opinion of us now, when some of our own fans, who ought to be better informed, are themselves the first to jump on any sniff of perceived wrongdoing. What possible benefit is there in wilfully ignoring what we know to be true in favour presupposing guilt at every corner? We've even got folk using the fact that we've not submitted the new accounts inside 48 hours as the latest stick with which to thrash the club. It simply beggars belief.
For the umpteenth time, there were two charges; one related to the valuation of our stadium and was summarily dismissed by the DC; the other related to our amortisation policy which was signed off on and approved under legal accounting standards by independent auditors, the auditors regulatory body, the DC and the ducking EFL themselves, the latter several times over a period of years. The amortisation policy charge was also initially dismissed by the DC for the aforementioned reasons. This left the EFL so desperate to save face that they appealed the decision, the outcome of which was predicted by myself and numerous others on this very thread: a small fine in order to secure the token win they need to maintain any ducking credibility at all AND NO POINTS DEDUCTION.
At this point, I very much doubt that even the EFL will be willing to risk further embarrassment. They can kid themselves this paltry fine vindicates two years of unwarranted charges and appeals and get back to their principal role as lapdogs to Sky and the Premiership whilst paying themselves inflated salaries for doing so. As for the DC, I strongly suspect that they only agreed to what is a nominal fine in order to save the EFL from falling into further disrepute and to allow us to finally emerge from under an endless series of unfair and damaging embargos and to prevent the EFL from continuing what has become a spiteful and unwarranted campaign against a club whose chairman quite rightly questioned their business acumen. In doing so, they have vindicated Mel's opinion in spades, though the crushing irony of this has unsurprisingly escaped the EFL's notice and who will doubtless be celebrating spending millions to secure a £100k fine for their members' coffers.
If, as I strongly suspect, the EFL do not appeal this sanction, I think we will 'be the bigger man' and simply take the £100k hit in order to allow us to return to football matters rather than spending every waking hour addressing the embittered ramblings and actions of a so-called professional body that seems more intent on undermining its membership than serving it.

The decision notice spells this out.  I can’t remember the years in question but they accounted for the sale in one year to comply with P&S.  It actually took place the following year which meant they breached for the previous 3 years.  It also states that the principal is fine and, in our case, it was the valuation questioned not that it or was done or when.

Exactly. Article in the Sheffield Star, and first quote is one of their fans saying Derby did ‘the same as them’ (ie some shenanigans around stadium sale) and should therefore get a points deduction. Total ignorance fuelling outrage. Should be ignored.

Yep, there's a sliding scale to reach the starting point.
    £0-2m = 3 points
    £2-4m - 4 points
    £4-6m - 5 points
    £6-8m = 6 points
    £8-10m = 7 points
    £10-12.5m = 8 points
    £12.5-15m = 9 points
    £15m+ = 12 points
Aggravating and mitigating factors are then added on or taken away. Very little has been confirmed on what these factors are, however, little bits have kept out.
    If there is a trend of reduced losses, punishment will be reduced by;
    1 point if T < T-1
    2 points if T < T-1 <T-2
SWFC had there 12 point deduction reduced by 6. The Club argued against the application of a deduction of more than 7 points to the 2019/20 season because such a deduction in that season would have led to its relegation. The Disciplinary Commission accepted this argument.
So timing of the verdict has an impact
Birmingham were deducted 7 for overspending. This was reduced by 1 for expeditiously admitting the breach, but another 3 added on for the trend (intentionally setting out get away with overspending).

Exactly these points.  If the EFL appeal the decision and the final - I assume appeals can’t go on forever - the surely it will apply next season.  The text below is from the original Sheff Wed so anyone with  common sense and a half decent lawyer would refer to this precedent…

FlyBritishMidland reacted to Oldben in EFL Verdict
Stoke City legend Mike Pejic had suggested the punishments dished out in cases such Wigan and Sheffield Wednesday are being issued on the wrong people.
He said: "A 12-point penalty punishes the players, the staff and the fans – it is the efl who sanctioned that takeover who should be in the dock.
"The focus (for the efl) now should be on coming up with rules and procedures to make sure that they never make this mistake again, making sure that this kind of disaster is not inflicted on some other poor wretches. Instead, the punishment is dolled out on the poor wretches!"
So teams: Birmingham, Sheffield wednesday, Wigan, Macclesfield.
These teams could and should have been protected.
What Derby did with amortisation was not against the rules at the time, it was not against established accounting practice.
The efl did not like that Derby did it, but just because you don't like something that someone does does not make it illegal.
The rule book was established by the efl and their own rules at the time did not make amortisation accounting policy wrong at the time when Derby did something that the efl did not like.
In Sheffield wednesdays case it was decided to not add a points deduction retrospectively but to add it to next season and then at appeal to further reduce that total to six points.
Now the efl are creating two fixture lists and stating any points deduction in Derbys case can be added retrospectively.
Case law points to efl needing to follow by example what they did for Sheffield wednesday.

Maybe its just me but I can't sit here and cry about the EFL after the way we've been operating for the past few years.
Rolled the dice, failed multiple promotion attempts and have tried loophole after loophole to try and straighten out since. How many non-parachute payment clubs were giving Darren Bent (and the rest) tens of thousands a week in this division? Sold their stadium to themselves? Signed a player through a sponsorship deal? Registered player amortisation different to the required standard?
I just can't sit here and say we've tried our best to avoid this mess, its been coming.
If that view makes me less of a Derby fan than the super supporters are, so be it. I'll support the club where ever it ends up but I'm not going to lie about its shady activity post 2014.

FlyBritishMidland reacted to LeedsCityRam in Have we progressed at all under Rooney?
    Why is that relevant?
We all know a lot of fans are incredibly fickle & tend to change their opinions after a run of 4/5 games either positive or negative. And anyone who seriously thought Benitez would look twice at us needs to adjust their perspective drastically.
The key criteria is getting the right man for the job based on prior experience & then sticking with him. Ian Evatt has a) a successful track record at two clubs & b) has demonstrated he can deliver teams that play good football. Look at the managers at successful clubs in this division - Daniel Farke, Valerian Ismael, Thomas Frank, Steve Cooper - who had heard of any of these before they started at their respective clubs?
As to your last sentence, Rooney is 11 games off a complete season with us - more time than Phil Brown got, more time than Nigel Pearson got, more time than Steve McClaren second time round got, more time than Paul Clement got. Whilst I totally accept there are some mitigating circumstances as to why Rooney has done so badly, the idea that we're not allowed to call for his removal because everything wasn't set up perfectly for him makes no sense. Phil Brown had a similarly grim time here off-field with players sold over his head, a thin squad & unlike Rooney, with a genuinely awful Board/owners - no-one bemoaned Brown's departure or thought he had more to give though. Why does Rooney get special treatment?

Wycombe and their fans are not the enemy here. The EFL have demonstrated their incompetence multiple times in the past. The way this has been managed, culminating in a press release a few hours ahead of the fixture list, shows how unfit for purpose they are. This is unfair on Wycombe. How can they prepare for the new season not knowing which League they will be in? Do they go out and find new players so that they're competitive? And, if so, at what standard? Do they need to sell to make ends meet?
