JustOneBiblicalKazim got a reaction from YouRams in Squad until Jan
Once we’ve got players back from injury I’d like to see something close to this:
Wildsmith
Ward Nelson Cashin Fozzy
Fornah Bird
NML Sibley Thompson
Waghorn
Other options in each position:
GK- Vickers
RB- Wilson (Smith could also drop back there)
CB- Bradley (Forsyth could move across too)
LB- Elder
CM- Hourihane, Smith, Robinson, Radcliffe
CAM- Embleton
Wingers- Barkhuizen, Richards
Strikers- John-Jules, Collins, Washington, Brown
- Feel there’d be so much more energy in this side, which would obviously help significantly with trying to press.
- Wanna see Robinson, Radcliffe, Richards and Brown in and around the first team, and given significant minutes in the Papa Johns Trophy. Brown, Robinson and Radcliffe were all regular features in preseason yet can’t get a minute on the pitch.
- Thompson to play his sort of inverted number 10 role where he comes inside when we’re on the ball like he was before his injury.

How terribly sad. Just breaking through and then effectively out for the season. Very tough for a young footballer in that position. Hope he copes and comes back well.

is it not far quicker and cheaper to replace a manager than buy a whole new group of players to suit him ?

Pretty sure Brentford were renowned for playing good football in league 1.

Last year was a nightmare. The almost unthinkable nearly happened - we were so close to losing our beloved football club, founder members of the football league, champions under Clough and Mackay, FA cup winners after the war and European Cup semi-finalists.
David Clowes, a genuine fan with the means to do so, rescued the club at the last minute. He himself says it "was close".
Thanks to him, we have a club, our club.
We must learn the lessons of the past. We must not get into the same precarious mess ever again.
But....we can move on. We must move on. We should now look forward. We do not have to merely be content that the club is still in existence.
It's ok to demand more from the manager, the teams on the pitch (not just the first team but especially them).
We should demand exciting, entertaining football that gets results. It does not mean that we won't forever be grateful to David Clowes for saving the club.
It means we want Derby County to once again be a beacon for good football. Attacking football. Positive football. Entertaining football.
That means passing football, intricate moves, running with the ball, creating chances. It doesn't mean sitting back and hoping to score from a corner or a free kick.
I like Paul Warne, the man. But I don't like his tactics. I don't like his desire to play 3-5-2 with the players he has available, I don't like his use of players out of position or not giving the academy players a chance. I don't like the emphasis on set pieces rather than attacking play.
Yes, at least we still have a club.
But we are Derby County. The football should be, must be, ought to be better 🐏

Yup this is all true, stats are meaningless. This is why clubs that have adopted a data driven approach such as Brentford and Brighton have been struggling so much as of late.

I don’t care what Bolton were doing I care about our performances, we could barely string two passes together, including all the stoppage time we averaged 1.05 successful passes per minute, that is grim, I really don’t want to watch that sort of football for the rest of the season. You say it’s 11 new players but the starting 11 has largely been made up of the squad that was already here last season, certainly for the first few games, and we’ve seen all the same issues as we were seeing during our dip in form last season. 1 shot on target in 90 minutes of football coming from a penalty is simply unacceptable, whether Bolton were poor or not.

To those who say we can’t afford to sack Warne, why on earth would we appoint someone we financially cannot sack? That would be an incredibly reckless and risky decision and something that a football club shouldn’t ever do, imagine if he had us sat in the relegation zone and we had to keep him because we’d put ourselves in that position, it’s insanity, there’s no chance we literally cannot get rid of him, not that I’m saying we should

I think we’re going round in circles so this is the last thing I’ll say, I want to watch a football team that I can feel proud of and optimistic about, I was really flat after the Fleetwood game because I just found nothing in that performance to make me look forward to watching the next game. I hated the football we played under Rowett but at least I knew what his tactics were and what his gameplan was, I didn’t like it, but I understood it, I genuinely don’t see what Warne is trying to do, talks up a big pressing athletic game but signs loads of ageing players and is reluctant to give our young talent a go. I remember a game away at Bristol under Cocu where we lost 3-2 having been 3-0 down but we genuinely played really well throughout the game and took the game to Bristol whilst having some young players on the pitch and Bird who’d just broken through, we dominated the ball and had plenty of shots, yet I see how we play now even when we win sometimes and feel completely flat about what I’m watching because there’s no real end goal to it, just complete short termism from most of the recruitment to the team selection to the way we set out on the pitch, I genuinely can’t even tell our formation most of the time.

You may be correct but I'd give Bardell a crack. If he struggles in a couple of games then Smith is the option. I'd rather have Nelson and Cashin at CB together in a four.

The ref was awful yes and he gave lord of decisions against us, but to be quite frank I really don’t care what the refs are doing, they’re the same every week. I care about what we’re doing and how we’re performing and whether or not we’re genuinely trying to be positive in our play each game. The reality is with 11 men we had 8 percent of the ball in the opening minutes and didn’t register a single shot until the 26th minute, once again we had one single shot on target in the entire game which came from a penalty, it’s unacceptable, I’m normally a glass half full fan and I don’t post too much when I feel really negative but I feel so unenthusiastic about what I’m watching

I found it quite embarrassing watching us trying holding onto a lead in the last 15 minutes against Fleetwood and not being able to keep possession

Oxford were very nearly relegated to league 2 about 3/4 months ago. They outplayed us at pride park. If you say they have been one good appointment away from being a threat in league one, then surely we could apply that same logic to ourselves...
We have more experienced players that have played in higher divisions, we have younger players that are more sought after, we have a better pitch, more money, bigger fanbase, better training facilities

1 solitary shot on target, which was a penalty. We played 48 minutes plus stoppage time with 11 men and still looked so poor, we only looked a threat from set pieces, potentially the worst on the ball I’ve ever seen us, 119 accurate passes with 57% pass accuracy is genuinely disgusting, there was games last season where Cashin did over 100 on his own, when we beat Man United away under Lampard Bradley Johnson had over 50 in the opposition half, so in a 90+ minute spell to have 119 accurate passes is awful, add to that after 3 minutes Bolton had 92% of the possession. I’ve never felt so unenthusiastic about watching us play, particularly after the injuries to Rooney and Thompson, not one part of me can be bothered to watch 9/10 ageing players look like they’ve never met each other for 90 minutes. I just wanna see something to feel optimistic about, an intention to play entertaining and attacking football and to see some of our exciting young players used in a way that can utilise the best of their abilities. I’m actually missing Cocu at the minute because at least I knew and liked what he wanted us to do.

Again we had 1 shot on target and it was a penalty, weren’t exactly knocking on the door. Yes Rooney getting injured was unfortunate but I expect a seasoned professional who calls himself a championship centre half, who was also Warne’s big singing in Sonny Bradley to come on and perform adequately and not set up the opposition 1 on 1 with our keeper again. Bolton were running rings round us from minute 1. And with all due respect, I don’t really care what Brian Clough was doing over 30 years before I was born when players were still having pie and chips before kick off, we should not be performing like that in any fixture at this level injuries or not, and we were at least as bad with 11 as we were with 10.

exactly, a manager has to earn more time. They have to show progress and have a clear plan of how we should be playing, whilst of course still picking up some results. You can't just keep saying give him more time because eventually it will come good. Right now it just feels like we're playing without any identity or tactics.

For me it’s more the way we are playing - the way we keep making the same mistakes as last season etc

Mel Morris did in fact start our new holding midfielder as a number 10 yesterday and selected NML to play wing back, he also told Josh Vickers to let the ball float over his head and hand picked Sonny Bradley as our new marquee defender.

Yes, whilst Mel might be to blame for the league we're in and the business plan, the rest is down to the manager.
The 'Mel is to blame', 'we're lucky to have a club' memes gather more cliche's as it rolls along. 😄
