Barnsley also finished above us. We finished above them the season before, despite being docked 21 points.

I can see your argument, but there is nothing to convince me at all that Warne has done a good job. He might still prove me wrong, I'd be over the moon about that. But we can't use administration as an excuse forever.

It's always going to be a reason for poor performance until we are no longer under a business plan.

The main difference between Clough and Warne is one built foundations and steadily improved on them, whilst also introducing a number of youngsters to the first team.

The other difference is that one was managing in the championship and the other is in League one. Because of the size and history of the club, there is this underlying expectation that we need to get out of this league now, there is no 'building' to be done.

People talk a lot about Warne's three promotions with Rotherham.

It was three because they were relegated twice under him immediately afterwards. That often seems to be overlooked.

Still had to get them up and he did. Rotherham were expected to be down the bottom of the championship table. He didn't exactly have a lot to work with. Warne did well for Rotherham.

At the moment it seems like they're just bad at being what Warne wants them to be, rather than just being bad. But then, i thought the tea would get good at doing what Cocu wanted and that didn't work out so well.

The difference is Warne has actually been there done it and got the t shirt.

That's because we were defending deep for a lot of the game with teammate all around him. That's how the teams he previously played for play. That's why Warne wanted him because he suits the way he played at Rotherham. Bradley and Warne have never been at a club like Derby where you have to take the game to the opposition who are the ones who sit back and defend.

That is just wrong. You must be getting Warne confused with Rowett. Warne did not sit back and defend at Rotherham. Clearly you never actually watched them play.

But Warne knew we would still have some difficulties with transfers this season. Instead of playing a system more suited to the players we already have, he's decided to go with an entirely different system which requires more transfers to create.

I agree he needs to end his obsession with a back 3 and play a 4

who else is to blame then ?

Warne has signed a lot of players he wanted and the squad as it is now is definetly strong enough to make play offs minimum.

The players themselves of course. Some really stupid errors in those first couple of games and embarrassing defending.

Yes Warne has signed players he wanted but it's clear that he wanted a lot more. Hopefully we can do something in the next couple of weeks.

I disagree with your first part entirely, but anyhoo why hasn't he got what he wanted?

He's had all summer to search and research for players. He's said he wants certain types of players, which he's now changed slightly to stress the pace angle. Why hasn't he gotten what he wanted? My opinion will be totally different to yours I think. We're a big club with a good transfer/wages budget, even the ability to spend on transfer fees (Warne said so too), so why haven't we got what Warne NOW says he wanted?

I have no idea why. It's puzzling given the size of club you would expect it would be easy to sign players. I seem to remember earlier in the summer Warne said it's dead easy to sign players for Derby county, he could sign loads of players but they might not be the right ones. So maybe Warne is being very picky. Could be a good thing could be a bad thing.

Warne probably gives the recruitment team a profile of the type of player he wants. It's their job to then go and find the player that matches with the club's ethos, budget etc. They present Warne with the player, he then meets with the player and makes the final say. So really there's only one explanation, the recruitment team haven't been able to find the right players.

The recruitment team. How much Warne is involved in that, we don't know. But saying we want to sign 23-28 year olds, losing our best player, and then not recruiting anyone in that bracket for that position isn't great. Also spaffing the budget on 30+ year old defenders when the team needs pace further forward...

I, conversely, was somewhat buoyed by this comment; purely because it means Warne also sees the deficiencies within the squad that the rest of us see, and isn't happy with the depth we currently have. This reinforces the notion he knows what's needed but it hasn't been delivered by those responsible for signings. I'd be far more worried if he was saying this IS a top 3 squad, to be perfectly honest.

I concur. Yes Warne is partly responsible for the poor performances but the recruitment team is to blame for the squad being in it's current state.

Warne has said many times he wants to sign players in the younger 23-28 age bracket, he wants more pace, he wants more creativity, basically all the things we've been saying. These comments don't match up with our business so far. Add to that the comments about it not being a top 3 team and it's clear to me that Warne is as frustrated as us with the transfer window and hasn't got what he wanted.

  10. Pride park has been a fortress so it's very surprising that we have been so poor and lost 3 out of 3 home games. The players shouldn't be nervous about playing here, they should be relishing the prospect of playing in front of 30,000 fans. When the place is rocking teams find it very difficult to get something here.

Currently we have a weaker squad than last year, possibly the weakest in my lifetime and I'm 66. So highly unlikely to be much above mid table. Recruitment has been poor - how much of that is PW's responsibility is hard to know.

So we have no option IMO than be patient, wait for finances to improve, maybe look at next year or year after as feasible promotion possibilities. I see no point in changing the manager.

Still think it can be done this year. We need some players brought in obviously but I think that will happen in the next couple of weeks.

    Birds case,

    - Going to a coach that he likes and probably likes,

    -  He will also be getting higher wages

    - Can’t risk stalling his career here if we don’t go up for another season or two

    Cashins case,

    - The pull of the premier league for a league one player must be near impossible to turn down

    - Brighton are one of the most exciting clubs in Europe at developing players at the moment

    - Also will get a great pay boost, aswell as Brighton being a nice place to live

Knight and Bielik both wanted to go to help there international careers aswell as playing at a higher level.

Matt Clarke went from League one to Brighton and didn't kick a ball for them. Just kept going out on loan season after season and eventually ended up at Boro. Highly likely same will apply to Cashin if he goes now. Better for his career to stay and give his best for Derby in my opinion. He's not ready for the premier League.

Whilst I can appreciate where some of the comments around giving him the full season come from, at what point do you cut your losses?

No manager has a season that's unconditionally supported. There's always a break point. A lot of it has to do with morale of the squad and at a certain point it gets really difficult for the same manager to break a team out of it and it needs to change.

Like do you realistically think Warne can survive say being on 10pts at the 10 game mark?

Do you retain him if it means losing the likes of Bird and Cashin with maybe a couple signings coming in at a similar quality that has been done this window so far?

At a certain point retaining becomes chasing a sunken cost.

It takes around about 10 games to get an idea of where we're going. If it gets to that point and we're still shocking with barely any points then yes it's time to go. But in my opinion we're nowhere near that stage yet, despite the poor start.

Leave it to the professionals. The home shirt looks like some kid at the last minute decided to go mad with Spirograph patterns on the shoulders.

The away kit looks like a manufacturing flaw in the process of making the shirt.

When designing a football shirt the priority should be to make sure it appeals to as many people as possible to ensure maximum sales.

Looking at other football teams away shirts it seems to be a fashion to have it over designed.

The Guardian thinks football shirts are works of art. Looking at some of these I think they would make good dishcloths.

Exactly. When it comes to be football shirts, the simpler the better. That's my opinion anyway.

Hands down one of our best away shirts in recent years.
