And this is why we shouldn't be too disappointed if we miss out.  We've no idea that Warne actually wants him. He might be confident of bringing in better for all we know.  After all we need to improve on the squad that finished 7th last season, not replicate it.

I must admit, his playing the victim and talking about his daughters being on suicide watch does seem very manipulative. Whatever happened, how he can deny that he has misused his power is beyond me. And let's not forget, he failed to report his brothers crime, but hey, that's OK he gave him a jolly good telling off.

Just sick of hearing about it to be honest. It's the whole self-pity thing that irks me most tbh. He did what he did, now he's been fired and his career is over, but him trying to flip it back on his accusers just confirms in my mind how manipulative the man really is. We've folk starving, a war in Ukraine, a divided country creaking under the cost of living, but hey, let's all feel sorry for Phil. It's one of those instances where the man's narcissism is so rampant that he can't conceive of how his behaviour is viewed. He's had plenty to say about others during his career, so I feel very little pity for him now.

Gisby reacted to Raich Carter in Knight Sibley Bird Bielik
Look, I want Bird, Sibs and Knighty to be great / good Championship players but they're not (yet, at least).
In other threads, there is talk of how Lampard did a terrible job considering he had Tomori, Mount and Wilson now obviously we're not saying that Bird, Sibs and Knight are at their level but relatively speaking, if they're as good as some talk them up to be, they should be tearing up League One and they really, really haven't.
In a season where we have a 20+ goal striker, a very solid keeper and at least one good CB (Cashin - our best young player IMO), if these 3 were as good as everyone makes out then we should have finished much higher up the table.
I think we're all remembering their promise as they started so young, wanting home-grown to do well, etc but taking hope/emotion out of it and based on last season, I don't see it. These players have all played 100+ games and now in their early 20's. If they were the hot shots some make them out to be, they'd have been bought during the fire sales we had during Administration.
I don't want to be negative - just saying that I think we need to calm down a bit and be a bit more realistic. I want them to be as good as some make them out to be - they just ain't at the minute. Next season is huge for them - I sincerely hope that they really kick on and deliver on their early promise but this talk about £x millions is crazy. Last season we were a slightly above average League One team as illustrated by our finishing position - let's not get carried away thinking anything different.
Oh, and with Bielik - an expensive legacy of the past. He'll go on a free/nominal fee. Good to see him playing so many games and he's back in the Poland squad (all great for him and us) but with one year left on his contract and massive wages, I'm sure the club will take anything and be delighted to have him off the wage bill.

He's been a great servant. Absolutely stellar in so many ways. I felt his time was going to come when Cocu arrived and the Academy was going to be front and centre, but alas that all spiralled out of control. When you look at our return on investment, it's been surprisingly poor, for one reason or another, and that shows the danger of putting too much faith in it.
At the moment we have Sibley, Cashin, Bird and Knight which is incredibly impresive, but given we're a third division team with a Category 1 academy you'd hope we'd have some players to show for it. Maybe Liam Delap and Kaide Gordon were the ones who got away?
We won the English league and competed well in Europe. Timi Elsnik and Jack Stretton came close. Max Lowe, Jayden Bogle, Festy Ebesole, Lee Buchanan, Dylan Williams, Luke Thomas, Farrend Rawson, Morgan Whittaker, Archie Brown, Mason Bennett, Calum Guy and Kelle Roos all hint at us producing good players but not great players. Will Hughes and Jeff Hendrick, from the early days, have reached highest without quite fulfilling their early promise.
If there had been a better overall plan of academy to first team I think we'd have seen the real benefit and I thought Wass should one day become the first-team coach overseeing his charges, but like it all it's been nearly but not quite. We probably won't know exactly how important and how good he's been until he's gone and we see what changes. A new broom is sweeping through the club and I think that's no bad thing, plus now we're in our second season in the third tier, we really do have to cut our cloth accordingly.
But huge thanks to Darren Wassall for everything.

14 years is quite a long time in football. We move on. I trust the people who own and run the club now to make sound business decisions that aren't based on knee jerk reactions or emotion. Clowes has taken a good long look at it. I don't think on balance the academy has produced as much as it should have, with the resources it has been given

By this logic, I assume you believe Cocu was our best manager of the last 20 years? Tactically what he was trying was far more advanced than anyone else- fluid positional rotation, utilising long periods of ball retention via slow build up to dominate games... how well overall did that work out for us?
It's a balance of finding a tactical setup that suits the players, whilst ensuring they're playing to their full individual potential through man management and psychology- Warne seems very big on the latter. Cocu underestimated the ability level of the squad and asked something unrealistic of them. Perhaps at this level, ensuring consistently solid individual performances goes further than trying to establish defined methods of play?
I love discussing tactics and football stats but with stuff like this I can't help come back to the Classic Clough quote:

How on earth do you know?
Warne knows these players, he works with them almost daily. More than you or I ever will. Maybe, just maybe, and hear me out here... he might have an idea of the type of things to say which could motivate a player that he knows.
Obviously, you maybe completely right, but 20 odd goals says the complete opposite.

Spot on. I happened to have interviewed Warne a few times when I worked in the Apprenticeship sector, when he was still Rotherham manager and he was doing various higher level courses on Leadership & Management and Psychology etc. He is big in to his psychology, motivation and leadership techniques and is a very intelligent man and I am 100% confident that everything he says to his players and to the media etc. is said for a reason and because he understands his players as people and knows how to make them tick. I know most managers should have this skillset but I know for a fact that he is particularly interested in it and it is a major strength of his. I don't think anything is said carelessly or by chance.

Football is being destroyed, I have NEVER left a game before the final whistle and I’ve been going to watch derby many many years , time was the last ten minutes of games was the best bit more often than not , you know what ? I would rather see us going all out in a blood and thunder finish and losing a goal on the break than this shxt, it’s week in week out and it has to be stopped no matter who is doing it and yes I mean us too , if a player stays down long enough to stop the game then he is off for ten minutes before he can return, that simple rule change ends it , I am sick to death of nail biting exciting games being destroyed , gripe over
great crowd , players gave it all and that’s all I ask for ducking love derby

Probably going to sound like a miserable old git and broken record here but...today epitomised the state of todays game and why I feel so disconnected to it.
We had mid table opposition with literally nothing to play for and still they were time wasting and feigning injury!
Think the most embarrassing moment of the season was when their centre back was rolling on the floor pretending to be injured until he realised the referee was ignoring him so he got back up and just carried on as normal.
The game is in a real bad state.

Hughes and Hendrick had both played blinders (and scored) in the semis v Brighton and were playing so well that, at the time, keeping them in the XI made sense. In exactly the same vein, after Marriott performs his heroics and single-handedly gets us to Wembley, why wouldn't you start him...? I get your point but the Bennett thing was far more baffling than Bryson.
And I suspect the sour taste with Lampard comes from the 'Should I Stay or Go' clip, that felt like him openly taunting the club who had handed him his managerial start. If he had that much contempt for the fans who were obviously going to see it, and the club by messing up our pre-season a bit, then I do understand why he isn't remembered totally fondly; even if my personal stance is more ambivalence than anything else.

All a matter of opinions and we’ll have to agree to disagree. Your confidence is my arrogance. I believe Frank would have got his time at Chelsea further down the line come what may & would have been better prepared for it with a few more years in the lower leagues under his belt. Marriott or Bennett to start at Wembley??? A no brainer!! One was a proven goal scorer one wasn’t. Just my opinion of course and neither of us can prove ourselves right ?

So the next general election will be fought between two parties with hardly a fag paper to separate them just throwing out stupid insults and accusations, the tweet saying sunak does not want child sex offenders jailed is as pathetic as boris jibe at starmer over jimmy saville,
ffs is this really the best we can muster in terms of the governing classes , the electorate really need to come out and vote smaller parties in a big way to give these clowns filling the ranks of both main parties a real wake up jolt

I have no knowledge regarding the contractual agreements between Lineker and the BBC, but I doubt whatever it might be that if Lineker had kept his comments to simply ‘ I am opposed to (or uncomfortable with) the Government’s current position on immigration’ it would be business as usual tonight, and I would be avoiding MOTD. HOWEVER, he decided he wanted to directly associate the current position with what was being considered in Germany in the 1930’s. There is no reasonable correlation I can see, and I am still waiting for his supporters on here to give me examples of the ‘language’ being used by Ministers in the UK that might seem similar in any respects to that espoused by Hitler or anyone of the National Party back then. I am going to watch MOTD tonight. Quite looking forward to it.

Last September I was playing football with my grandson, and hurt my knee. I didn’t bother the doctors because the knee gradually returned to near normal, but still quite painful at times. It was such a time I winced, and my wife “advised “ me to see the doctor, which I duly attended, knee examination, all OK, I asked for a PSA (having seen the information at Pride Park) check which he duly gave me the paperwork. The test came back 7.1, I’m over 70 so 6.5 is regarded as normal. I was dispatched to the Derby Royal, had the anal examination, ( for the first time) small lump found. In five weeks I’ve had a MRI scan,my prostrate biopsy done, and a QT scan, and I’m now on a hormone treatment plan. It appears they’ve caught the tumour early, and the prognosis is good, they say it will be eliminated. You do lose your dignity at times, but not going through that door and having the exam you could lose a lot more.
A shout out to the doctors and nurses at the Derby Royal, they have been absolutely terrific, informative, and very understanding, and caring.
